- Here are step by step instructions on installing a rudder onto a 2019 & Earlier Models Vibe Sea Ghost 130 or 110 angler fishing kayak.
For all 2020 Sea Ghost rudders and Sea Ghost Rudder Kits the rudder now has a "reversed" spring, so as to work better and more efficiently than prior models. With the spring reversed, if a kayaker hits an underwater obstacle or runs shallow, the rudder will ride up easier & bounce over the obstacle better, then spring back into the correct rudder-deployed position.

I just bought this kayak and it's very hard to pull the rudder back up. What am I doing wrong? Please help.

@@erindurbin6022 I contacted vibe through the website and they sent out a replacement, the replacement I received appears to be assembled correctly. The first one, the tension was assembled backwards!

I just got my kayak in the mail today. My rudder seems to be spring loaded, it doesn’t just sit there it it just always try’s to deploy. Is this broken or just a different kind of rudder on the newer sea ghost 130s?

@@mikeamiot9717 I saw a video on youtube where the guy took the rudder apart and reversed the spring to make his rudder stay like that. seemed easy enough to do.

A part of this video is just wrong, mine must of been strung up the same way shown in this video because it was completely backwards from the only way it could work, in this video you can see the string going from the underside of the pivot up to the tie off hole. This will not work for pulling the rudder back up just with how leverage works, after a while of messing with it I re strung it entirely and with the rudder up and at rest the string goes kind of up and around the notch on the rudder then to the tie off. At 1:06 in this video look at the line. It goes under the pivot and that way makes it impossible to really pull the rudder back up
quick update, the 2020 models have had the rudder spring reversed which required a slightly different stringing of the rudder cable for it to work properly.
Mine shipped but the rudder cables are stuck inside the holes
