    I was hoping you might build one of the ship's, but maybe, if you was interested in a TR-3 Black Manta, I have a video with great detail.

    The model already looked a whole lot better when you added some of the weathering dust to it anything that would get rid of the shine that your model has because you use semi gloss paint makes it look closer and closer to movie quality ,, but still if I was you I’d go back and watch the first Star Trek movie with this ship in it and just think how much better your model would’ve looked If you used acrylic flat gray mixed with some olive drab to give it that hint of green , how much better your model would’ve looked more realistic anyway I wish it was a way I can send you a picture of my model no my models paint does not look like the actual movie prop if you put it side-by-side but my model does match what we see in the movie perfectly and to me that’s what counts…. Just like when I first saw the movie aliens and I saw that beautiful ship the Sulco I always thought the ship was green an army green the same color as the dropship I never thought in 1 million years it was actually gray lol So when I built my model I painted it as I saw it in a movie I painted it the color of the dropship olive drab lol

    Basically I would just love to see master builders like yourself do more to make these models look like they just popped off the movie screen instead of making them look like the art on the box which is sometimes cartoony or toylike

    Good day Lou. I'm planning on buying this kit along with your masks. I want a simple lighting kit (never have tried doing this LOL). What lighting kit would you recommend? I want a kit that doesn't have to have the model on a stand as I need to hang from the ceiling so my cats won't destroy it. Thanks Lou.

    • @aztekdummy
      @aztekdummy  Год назад +1

      The thing is, you dont really need a kit, the lights dont do anything special unless you want a torpedo effect. If you are going to hang it, you can get one of those battery operated string of tiny Christmas lights and put that in there.

    Well if you were going for the artwork on the box you hit the mark but it really is a shame you didn’t go more for the Star Trek movie version I know even the movie prop it’s like an olive drab color but when you watch the movie it looks more of a gray so when I made my model I mixed vary flat olive drab in with flat gray acrylic paint and I also hand-painted the Klingon symbol on the bottom using a very very light shade of the actual color of the emblem because in the movie you can barely see the Klingon emblem so I wanted mine to be almost invisible in low light you can’t really see it I should make a RUclips video on how I did it. But I’m an old man and I don’t have a RUclips channel but I do love to make my models resemble as 100% possible the movie props so on models like this I only use the flattest paint with no shine & I make it very thin paint as well , when you use thick paint it screws with the scale of the model making it look more like a toy. For example when you’re doing Bandai’s razor crest which is a very small model you have to use extremely thin paint best way to do this is water base acrylic paint that’s flat I like to use Testors master acrylic flat paint because when needed I can use a paintbrush thin the paint with a little bit of water brush it on with a brush when it dries leaves no raised brush marks and dries completely flat hiding none of the detail of the model no matter how small the panel lines or details are

    • @aztekdummy
      @aztekdummy  2 года назад

      the filming model is the color i've painted it. the colors were changed in the processing of the film stock to the more muted colors you described

    Man! Your camera was hyperactive all week. Looking everywhere except at the model. Like a puppy... “Squirrel!” “Cat!” “Wanna play over there!” - That is a really good looking ship! Both the original design and your build. Well done.

    This looks like a really nice kit. What I'd LOVE to see is a series of after-market detailing kits like those that are available for the Enterprise in it's various versions. Some would not apply but a detailed shuttlebay option and a bridge might be nice additions as a start. (Yes, the ones they have are great.)There are blueprints for the interior of the D-7a available and extrapolating from those for the D-7m wouldn't be too difficult. If you really wanted to go full tilt, imagine a battle damage kit including flickering lights for some of the exposed interior spaces. As Lou said, colors are up to the builder as the various houses of the empire would have numerous customizations. Other greens and grays would most likely be the most popular. Lou, I had my doubts about those big decals but they really did settle in quite nicely. the violet/kelly green combo on the base came out excellently. Very nice work as always Lou. Thanks.

    She turned out beautiful Lou! The paint job on this beauty really makes it pop!! I think your green color choices look great. I've been looking at videos from other modelers working on this same kit and there seems to be a lot of discussion on the colors and what is actually the closet to the ship we see on screen. I think your choices made for a great looking ship.

    Speaking of painting: Ya know what's great about Klingon ships is you can do just about anything and stay within Star Trek canon (within reason, of course!). The Klingons are not as stringent in coloring as say, Star Fleet. It's not uncommon for various Klingon Commanders to personalize their own ship. (Smile).

    I just found your channel and subbed. I have been putting together model kits for 50 years now, and I have been building scratch builds for about 15 now. I have ordered this kit and was contemplating building it along with the TOS Connie, and the Rebuild Connie to sell as finished products on Amazon, and or Ebay. Do you have any advise as it seems you have already been doing this kind of work to sell it seems.
    Also I am working on a Scratch build 1:32 scale TOS Klingon Shuttle Craft. I need to get a new hard drive for my computer and I can You Tube again. For some reason about every couple years my Mirrilis Action just quits recording, and the only way that I can fix it is to get a new Hard Drive.
    I am also looking at some fairly expensive 3D stereoliphic printers. I have laid out plans for 1:144, 1:160. and 1:72 scale for the 3 original TOS ships.
    I finally moved into a house that has a workshop large enough so I can build a 13 foot 1/4inch Constitution if I want.

    Hello Lou, I want to thank you for all of your work and time put in on the videos. it was a big help with my build on the K'Tinga. Just thought I would mention the issue with the decal near the top of the nacelle pulled up by the tape. I had the same problem even after clear coating the model. I was able to salvage the decal by placing the tape in warm water an also used a hair dryer to pull the decal off of the tape wit tweezers. A light cote of scenic cement and I was able to reapply the decal with almost no damage. Thought it might me helpful. Gary Salerno Starburst Models.

    My Klingon's a little rusty, ahem ahh.... "Take out the trash, or die!" I think I got it.
    I think the un-washed model looks too much one way and the washed model goes too much the other way (at least around the photon emitter). At least on camera. Either way a very compelling 'take" on the look of the ship. Speaking to Addams is icing on the cake!
    Looking forward to next week!

      I'm still bogged down with the masking of the pattern of this model. Oh man. It gets tedious and I start reaching for other stuff. Working with the plastic is always my favorite part of model building. It's why I always start new kits and create a backlog queue of kits waiting to be airbrushed.
