  • Christmas arrives with 12 inches of snow. I compare using my loader to the Frontier AF10 front blade plow. I go over some of the pro and cons of both plus test a new camera. 95% of the video is shot autonomously, will the machines take over?

Before the first snow, I melt old candles in a coffee can on top of the wood furnace and use an old brush to coat the inside of the bucket with it. When I go to empty the bucket, the snow slides out without even having to dump the bucket all the way and it saves a lot of time. I've been doing that for the last 35 years and it works great.

Great job helping the neighbor. When we lived in Wyoming I had a big snowblower, once bundled up and running it was just as easy to dig out the widow next door and the elderly couple across the street as doing just my own drive.

Great video as always. I live in SouthEastern Massachusetts, where we quite often get wet heavy snow. This past storm we got 8-10 of ugly stuff. My driveway to the street is 300' and back to the barn is another 150' both paved. I have a 1023e with a FEL and the edge tamers, a x500 with a 44 blower and a 332 with a 54 blade. This had to be the worst mix of precipitation in recent memory. My preferred solution is the blower so I can get the snow back from the driveway edges, but all it did was push the snow. Tried the 332 but too heavy. I ended up having to use the FEL to go down the center of the driveway like you did. Then I used a combination of the blower and blade taking small bites from each side. Finally able to prove to my wife that I NEED all my machines as I didn't need to change attachments !!!!!

I have a snow blower on my tractor. The biggest advantages are the speed in doing the job; but the thing that tops that is the fact you have no piles to act like a snow fence and get more snow in your driveway and yard from the next snow storms. I enjoyed the video and keep tractoring!

When moving a lot of snow with a tractor and loader I like a rear blade on so I can plow forward and push in reverse. I have both an angle rear blade and a box blade but use the angle more. And it also gives you more rear weight. I don't like back dragging because of the added stress on the cylinder rams.

Another great video! Nothing better than watching someone plow snow on their tractor! :) I never even had to put my plow on last year and again, so far this year.
I'd look at putting a rubber edge on your plow. You don't have to spend a lot of money. I bought a "stall mat" from Tractor Supply for about $50. I cut 6" wide strips from it and sandwiched it between the blade and the steel cutting edge. Works like a squeegee on the blacktop - no snow residue left at all. No more horrible steel scraping noises when plowing.

If you leave it in float and have to push enough snow your front tires will lift rather than push the snow forward. If you are on a hard surface this is fine. If you don't have enough down force on the front tires to turn you can float then go out or adjust the loader height yourself. On a soft surface the edge tamers might compress in enough to scoop up some dirt.

I enjoy my compact tractor in the snow, I have a 72" rear blade and a front snow pusher, I use the rear blade to pull the snow away from the house / garage then push it into large piles well away from any structure, the pusher makes short work because your not chasing large windrows like a regular plow. I also invested in tire chains for all 4 tires, when we are forecasted to get 12+ I'll put the chains on all 4 tires, anything less I'll either just run front chains or no chains at all, with chains the tractor becomes a tank.

I like my snow pusher, no issue when going over grass, but it dose become an issue when you have to push a long ways. I sometimes have to push a 100ft, this is where the plow would be better because it would role it off to the side. They do make shoes for the plows so you won’t dig in .

This looks to have done a far better job than I expected. I used to use a plow on my Honda atv but to be honest that was more trouble than it was worth. Without side panels or more height anything above 6 inches required more time cleaning the overflow than anything, and you couldn't pile more than 18 inches high. Franky a waste of 1000 bucks for that system lol

Nice video. I miss the snow since I moved to GA from PA a few years ago. Plow should work fine on the driveway. Lower the skids down a couple inches below the blade, set the plow down in float and go, the skids should keep it from digging. Just be sure to set the plow up so it is pushing straight, (not tipped forward or backward). You can adjust the level indicator to help make sure the plow is at the correct angle.

I have a pusher and the bucket of course. I use the pusher for everything snow day to day. But last Winter (my 1st with it) I did use the bucket to move an entire large bank back about 6 to 10 feet, along with the 18" plus of snow behind it. This was after a large storm which did not allow me to readily move stuff back as much as I would have liked. It still being early in the season I wanted more headroom in my "where do I put it when more comes" department.
I was pleasantly surprised I could move the banks back with the bucket so readily.
I don't have a plow but my analysis is that the shape of your driveway more than anything dictates whether pusher or plow would be better. I have a wide boxy area, relatively, and not a long narrow driveway to the road. Also have largish area that needs to be back-dragged out. For me pusher made more sense, with back-drag.
I think if I changed the shape of the drive to get rid of big blind box I need to back-drag now then I might be faster with a plow though.

    • @frankdopp6887
      @frankdopp6887 3 года назад

I'll add that the pusher is less than ideal clearing the mailbox as I need to have the tractor out a good deal across the road to push off into the ditch. Not good. An angled plow would definitely be better there for me.
After getting one of the biggest storms in our area ever this year and a very large storm last year I am very much considering investing in a 3 point blower. Very much considering it. Like - a lot.

It only takes 5 minutes to change from blower to plow.
I have 800 feet of very steep asphalt and the R4 tires would not handle it so I put chains on it and they hit the lift links so I then made 1.5" wheel spacers now every thing works well, except the chains mark up a brand new driveway.

The rubber edge would be so much easier on your driveway and you wouldn't hear your plow scrapping against the driveway. It's also easier on the grass. I've been using it on my JD X595 with a 54" plow and move a lot of snow and would never plow without one. It looks like the angle of your plow might be a little off like it wants to dig in but it just could be the camera angle. Just my thoughts.

“Something to think about.” I’ve been in the snow removal business for about thirty five years. The best way to do a driveway with a bucket for me anyways is instead of plowing your way in is go all the way in with bucket raised to the garage door, building or whatever. Then back drag the entire width of the drive out the length of your machine plus 5-8 ft. Turn your machine around and push the snow away. That way you aren’t constantly back dragging and scooping.

@@rcclassiccrawlers4368 I grew up as a farm kid and have several thousand hours on our John Deere tractors.
Almost a million miles in my 3 pickup trucks and hauling equipment, 5 years in snow removal, 5 years in landscaping. I watch some of these videos hoping for something clever or creative to add to our farm - sometimes I'm impressed, 95% of the time I wish these content creators would watch other quality youtubers with 50k, 100k or 1m subscribers instead of re-inventing a sh*tty wheel.

Why don't you use a Frontier rear Snow Blower? Like the SB1154, it works like a charme

How well would it work with the 600' section of gravel drive I have? Use to have a walk behind and always kept pressure on the handles to keep from nosing it in the gravel. Good forearm workout:)

@@ataleofthreecabins1025 You just have to adjust the two skid under the blower to the second hole and you will be ok. I also have a gravel driveway and a long path on the grass that I blow for my dog to take a walk and it works just fine.

Lower the skid shoes on the concrete driveway so the plow blade is 2" above the concrete then plow gravel driveway.
