I just came in for a late breakfast and noticed I have 17.6 hrs on mine; had .8 when I got it. I haven't noticed any of these dislikes, but I might as time goes on. It is assume how much work I've gotten done in 17 hours. Everything from ripping out blackberry brambles, moving logs, to digging water lines.
Thanks for all of the videos.

Love your videos. I learn more from you than anyone else. Thank you! I bought my 1025r because of the way it works for you. It's at the dealer right now getting an air ride seat put on it and that's my only dislike...I am a bigger guy and always bottom out the original seat. Keep up the great work and I will keep my eye on you...thanks again! I love my 1025r and really hope you keep yours for a little while longer...

I agree with your comments. I changed my garage door for a taller one so I don't have to lower the safety bar all the time...I find removing the backhoe not very efficient: the hydraulic hoses are bit too short. I bought a set forks; I love them and highly recommend them... Overal I love my 1025 R.
    Thanks

My pet pet is that there is only one brake peddle. I know they turn shot but when your cutting around apple tree branches with my B2601 Kubota I can lock the brake and miss the branches. I had one brake on my X595 JD and know I need 2 brake peddles. Also the Kubota is a manual lever to apply the PTO. Without the electronic switch you don’t need a safety switch reverse button to push. Also my tractor can with valve stem protectors welded to the wheel, I tore two valve stems off on the JD while using the loader. The only thing I don’t like on the Kubota is no bucket level indicator like JD has.. thanks for the interesting video! Wayne from Wisconsin

I agree with raising up to see objects in the bucket or forks and the tractor shuts off, what a pain. My two favorite parts are the quick attachment bucket and size of cockpit with arm rest and being able to enter from both sides with ease with such a small tractor. I owned a BX23 and could only enter from one side easily.

I have a 2013, 1025r and I’m stoked on the work I’ve accomplished, I’ve learned to start putting the brake on and putting in neutral before getting off. The rop folds completely down. As for your brake, adjust it and you won’t be able to take off. What I need to do is purchase a hydraulic harness put it together and set up the backhoe, oooh I have a big project for that one!!

Yes the PTO safety switch is obnoxious!! I wish John deere, or even a 3rd party manufacturer came out with a switch that you could insert a key into to would enable or disable the reverse safety function. I will be disabling it at some point. Just because of how our lawn is, we end up backing up a lot. Stupidly annoying.
-I also hate that style parking brake. The new ones have a lever actuated parking break like manual cars had -the hood latch mechanism that requires the key is kinda annoying but not the worst thing in the world.
-Oh, I also wish the power beyond hydraulics were more convenient to access. They’re not terrible. But you do have to bend down and get your hands in there.
As for likes, love the build quality. Exactly what John Deere is known for. Heavy duty, rugged construction that will last, given proper care.
-I LOVE how easy it is to mount and dismount the backhoe, loader, and autoconnect mower deck. Mower deck can be on and off in 30 seconds. I can have both the loader and backhoe off in 5 minutes, with most of the effort going to the backhoe. Mounting is easy but takes just a hair longer because of lining the backhoe up. But still can do it under 10 minutes (5 and 10 minutes respectively were both times for the first time doing those operations!)
-the JDQA system for mounting loader attachments is great. I think I’d prefer a skid steer style system but I’m familiar with deeres system and have no issue with it.
1025R’s are a popular compact tractor and for good reason, they’re relatable and well built. Sure they have some minor issues but for what you get, they can be overlooked. Nothing is perfect. But it’s damn close.

I also agree with most of your likes and dislikes except:
The parking brake: my first tractor was a John Deere GX335. It had the same parking brake. Guess I had already gotten used to it so I never had a problem except I use the 335 for cutting the lawn. The brake petal is on the right side. After spending so much time on the 1025r, I keep finding myself moving my left leg to press the break petal on the 335 😊
ROPS: I had to lower the ROPS to get into the garage too. This “hate” only lasted one day. In the 17 years operating the 335 on a very hilly property I never came close to rolling it over. So I removed the top part of the ROPS. When I build a garage with a higher door, I’ll put the ROPS back on.

Wonderful share from your in-use experiences. Thank you! I have a JD riding lawn mower that uses the SAME seat shut-off system. It is a major hassle. I stand 6'4" with long arms, and I still cannot grab a branch on the ground from the seat without the engine shut-off engaging. I would DEFINITELY have that bypass trick with the zip-tie implemented on the 1025R if I owned one.

I like the larger tire on my 2025R. I would prefer your tool box to mine that is out front. The in fender tool box on my X738 is much better than 2025R. I also have issues with the brake release.
Loader bucket and pallet fork are a must. I can also use a ball mount on the loader.
Bottom line I enjoy both machines.

@@ataleofthreecabins1025 I'm looking forward to getting it next week. The one I am getting is equipped with the Mauser Cab and bucket, blower as well as drive over autoconnect 54" deck. I was going to buy a bushhog as I'm using it at a small campground we have in Canada to clear the road (walkway) in the winter for the campers to be able to spend nice days up at the lake as well as cut the fields. The deal suggested that I could rent a bushhog anytime I wanted to cut the field which made sense, but i'm kind of concerned about the statement of the 3pt hitch being a limited Class 1...

I agree with your list and have 2 small complaints to add. I'm constantly having to turn off my hazard lights because my knee rubs against the light switch getting on the tractor and the work light by the loader control lever is always in the way when moving the lever in the dump direction. But still impressed by what my little " Green Machine " is capable of.

They did that to avoid the people using a back hoe to hit themselves on the rops each time the wanted to get up, because when you use the back hoe, you sit just under it. But the fact that it is just over 7 feet is a pain in the $#%&! I'm sure it would be as secure even if it was a little bit shorter... But hey... I'm not the engeneer that desing that rops... maybe they have a very good reason, because it piss of a lot of people... 😁 Have a great day to both of you! 😃

I agree with 2 of your dislikes. I dislike the Rio switch. It was engineered with the intention of making reversing safer. I feel it does the exact opposite. I can't fully turn around while holding the switch down. I also dislike the ROPS, but for a different reason. The hinge brackets should be mounted on the forward side of the tube. With them facing rearward I have to move into some akward positions to enter the backhoe operator station.

These issues are issues I figure we'd have on any tractors, I like the bigger 2R's as well, but this package, I have a 1023E with 80 hours, really can't be beat. It's way more tractor than an L&G tractor but not any bigger really. Having said that the mid PTO switch and getting off the seat are the two worst.

For me I had to with a Kubota BX. I like their ROPS better complete fold back, no mow in reverse switches to deal with, no electronic PTO, has a real fuel gauge in cluster, larger foot platform area and most of all a lot less polymer plastic parts. Yes, I know it will bend and it can rust but I've seen the polymer plastic ones break like potato chips with time and a lot of exposure to UV rays. Kubota tried that in the 50 series BX line and they just fell apart after a while. I do like some John Deere things better like the position control 3 point and twin touch HST pedals and the external HST trans fluid cooler but that's about it. That's what makes the world go around because we all don't like the same things. Have a Great Day and God Bless !

Ive been in the process for the past month of extending all of the tractor control levers as well as the backhoe & outrigger controls for easier reach for my personal operator performance preference. All control levers are being painted JD green & yellow & im also planning on adding reflective safety decals on the rear of the bachoe outriggers. I cant wait untill im all done. ive been off my tractor for round a month & i need my "tractor theropy!!!"
I do not like the position of the parking brake slide lever nor its design & the same with the silly cruise control slide lever. my favorite tool is the H-120 loader. i wish at times it would raise a bit higher. i do wish the tractor had a bit more power, but overall, i am vey satisfied with my JD1024R. it has just over 600 hours on it now.

I have a 1023e the thing I hate the most is the location of the neutral safety switch it is just below the mid PTO and can easily be unplugged by heavy brush mine went bad so I have it jumped out. Now though I don't have to worry about pushing the PTO button to go in reverse with the mid PTO or raising up on the seat a little bit. I can get completely off the tractor with it in gear and it doesn't shut off. It makes it nice if I have to move the tractor just a little bit without having to be seated on it. That and the ground clearance are really the only negative things I have to say about these little green tractors.

R1 tire would give you about an inch more height but will tear your yard up plus you have to have new rims. Take a look at the new R14 tire it’s a combination of the R1 and R4. It may offer you more height plus a little more aggressive tread without tearing up the yard and an added bonus you don’t have to buy new rims.

Another minor dislike for me is the differential lock pedal. I have to use it fairly often, and it is kind of a pain to engage it because it is so small and hard to feel if you are actually pressing it down, or not. I know there is an aftermarket solution to bolt on the rod and increase the area so it makes it easier, but c'mon Deere, would it kill you to make it more ergonomic right from the factory?!

It got really tipping after adding a cab. I ended up putting 3” spacers on all the wheels. Makes a noticeable improvement.

By the time we’re talking about the inconvenience of some built in safety features and nothing about serious mechanical design failure or operational capability it’s a pretty fine machine.

Could you put that roller bar straight up and I have to worry about it like you said you can make a cover for you I don’t get why I don’t understand what’s down like that. I’m just now getting in the tractors trying to learn all I can have one of those I could use one, but probably never will get one cause I don’t have the money, just knowing just looking at them they’re awesome

Cut down the ROP device. No need to fold it down. Same protection! Fits in the barn….

If you’re cooking out riding mower Dies would you ever consider a mid mount 54 inch or 60 mower deck for the 1025R

I would, for Southern Ohio( lot more grass to cut). At home it would be overkill. Some of our long range goals might involve leaving the 1025r in southern Ohio, that would open the door for the MMM, and having another tractor at home.

I mow with my 4x4 X738 60 inch deck. I didn't even consider a deck when i bought the 2025R. I am not sure how the 738 compares to the 1025.

So the brake is actually the linkage adjustment on the right side straighy back from the drive pedals back off the jam nut and turn the long adjustment nut 3 to four threads and you will have a tight parking brake again

Looking at tractors, how long did it take to get to the 150hr mark? Do u use the backhoe much?

    • @ataleofthreecabins1025
      @ataleofthreecabins1025  3 года назад

A little over a year and a half for the 150hrs. I use the backhoe quite often especially If you have wooded property and you want to clear some of it.

Good morning, I just watched your likes and dislikes about your 1025 and really enjoyed it. I had a X595 JD and was going to trade it for a 2025 but the delays in getting it went from October, to December, to March as they were having build problems. So I bought a Kubota 2601 and found it what I liked better. #1 it has 2 brakes which the JD didn’t have, it help me cut around the apple trees as I use the brake to swing around the branches without hitting the lower rops. #2 no button to push when you backup with the mower. #3 larger tires for for moor clearance. 1 thing I don’t like is the fuel fill on top of the hood must hold the 6 gallon can when fueling. I like the B2601 and would not opt for a larger tractor for me. Also the 3 speed axel is a good idea as I always cut in the medium speed.

That's a good size tractor. Probably more in line with the 2032R or 38R (those have the 2 brake pedals and a little heavier). Thanks for your input

I understand what your saying and i have mine with my Kubota as well. What i agree most and they have in common is the folding ROPS I have to fold mine down to put in the garage also. I have hit my head more times then i want too count all because they built a ROPS two inches higer then a standard garage door.👍👍

    • @ataleofthreecabins1025

I don't regret getting it. It's nice to have it there in a spur of a moment and I use it all the time. My only complaint is the little rubber boots at the base of the control arms always come loose. That's not a big deal, just a pet peeve.

I have the Massey Ferguson gc 1720 it's a great machine but like you i sometimes wish that the tires were a little bit bigger but all in all i love that little beast There are likes and dislikes in every model and brand but like you i like how easy theses little work horses get in and out of tight places and for their size you can get a lot done with them. Can you adjust your brakes a little bit so they will hold better? On my Massey you can adjust the brakes to hold tighter if needed .The seat safety is a little annoying but i like that it's on there for safety and working .I never have dropped the rops on the Massey but i don't need to as the carport is tall enough so it goes under it .But man i'm sure glad that i have a tractor .
