Kurt Donald Cobain (February 20, 1967 - c. April 5, 1994) was an American musician who was the co-founder, lead vocalist, guitarist and primary songwriter of the rock band Nirvana. Through his angst-fueled songwriting and anti-establishment persona, Cobain's compositions widened the thematic conventions of mainstream rock. He was heralded as a spokesman of Generation X and is highly recognized as one of the most influential alternative rock musicians.
Cobain formed Nirvana with Krist Novoselic and Aaron Burckhard in 1987 and established it as part of the Seattle music scene that later became known as grunge. After signing with DGC Records, Nirvana found commercial success with the single "Smells Like Teen Spirit" from their critically acclaimed second album Nevermind (1991). Although Cobain was hailed as the voice of his generation following Nirvana's sudden success, he resented this, believing his message and artistic vision had been misinterpreted by the public. In addition to "Smells Like Teen Spirit", Cobain wrote many other hit songs for Nirvana, including "Come as You Are", "Lithium", "In Bloom", "Something in the Way", "Heart-Shaped Box", "All Apologies", "About a Girl", "Aneurysm", and "You Know You're Right".
The Fairfax two-bedroom where Kurt Cobain supposedly holed-up with Courtney Love from 1991 to 1992 and wrote songs for In Utero is now available on Airbnb. Love was pregnant with their daughter, Frances, and Nirvana's Nevermind album was doing phenomenally well, but Cobain came to LA and hid in his home because he wanted to escape from the fame and pressure that came along with his band's success. A 2004 LA Times article says that the unit on Spaulding Avenue was a sanctuary where Kurt could hide away from touring and "million-dollar deals," and instead spend his time regularly eating at Canter's and "[retreating] to painting and narcotics." The apartment was a wreck while Cobain lived there, as an old photo of him in the bedroom illustrates.
During the last years of his life, Cobain struggled with a heroin addiction and chronic health problems such as depression. He also struggled with the personal and professional pressures of fame, and he had a tumultuous relationship with his wife, fellow musician Courtney Love. In March 1994, Cobain overdosed on a combination of champagne and Rohypnol, and he subsequently entered an intervention and underwent a detox program. On April 8, 1994, Cobain was found dead in his Seattle home at the age of 27; police concluded he had died on April 5 from a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head.
Cobain was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, alongside Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic and drummer Dave Grohl, in their first year of eligibility in 2014. Rolling Stone included Cobain in its lists of the 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time, 100 Greatest Guitarists, and 100 Greatest Singers of All Time. He was ranked 7th by MTV in the "22 Greatest Voices in Music". In 2006, he was placed 20th by Hit Parader on their list of the "100 Greatest Metal Singers of All Time".

Me 2. Idk if it's cause of that age, growing up into young adults maybe all and then some but I never got why my elders would talk about elvis, Beatles, etc and just go crazy. I was like yeah but what's the bug deal. Then summer 91 and Nevermind drops and I got it. I know what the big deal was. Ppl born after 2000 have no idea how simple life was then compared to now. I've met a few that work well, are respectful to all, have manners and know they gotta pay their dues not show up with 0 exp and say I need $45 HR and will finger my fone 95% of work day and if u don't pretend I'm a dinosaur and respect that I will quit. Please, please do. Let us adults get work done. Every 1 even too fat should have to be in Marines for 2 years. Like Israel does with IDF. Boy, all these little hideaways that have so much history in them. You'd never guess that little bitty apartment and homey restaurant would be a place you could find someone like Kurt Cobain hanging out in. I actually love that little apartment he had. I always had a preference for small places. It just always feels more like home to me for some reason. I love the outside of that apartment too. It amazes me the research you must do to find places like this. Your one-of-a-kind Scott in the very best way! Hi to Pete too 👋

I used to work at Mr. Pizza (Damiano) across the street from Canter's and we delivered to Kurt and Courtney many times at 3 am, mainly cheese pizzas and garlic breads. They were good tippers and one time Krist came to the door in a speedo. So that was fun.

I was 16 when he died in 94, i think the day he died the band Blind Melon played on Letterman and Shannon Hoon had a big question mark ❓️ on his forehead, and it was supposedly directed at Kurt as a why, we would lose Hoon the next year. Sad

hi from home scott :) I was wondering about dawn Wells last home? is it still there? could you do a vid of it?
He wrote most of "In Utero" in the closet on the top floor of the Alta Loma Terrace house that you recently informed us will be getting demolished sadly. While him and Courtney lived in the Alta Loma Terrace house Patty Schemel the girl who was friends with Kurt and was almost the drummer for Nirvana but ended up becoming the drummer for Hole also lived with them at the Alta Loma house for a while and in her documentary called "Hit So Hard" she talked about how when they lived together at that house that she stayed in one bedroom on the top floor and Kurt and Courtney stayed in the other bedroom on the top floor and how Kurt wrote most of "In Utero" in the closet that was between the two bedrooms on the top floor at that house.
You have to wonder if the people now living in that apartment have any clue who once lived there. So freaking cool!! Congratulations on hitting 200k.

I was 33 when Nirvana came on the seen with Smells Like Teen Spirit and the caught my attention like Wow. They were a new fresh sound and gave me the same reaction like Axl Rose's Welcome to The Jungle with Guns N Roses in 1987. A very fun era.
