When I heard the old man (probably not much older than me) say "this is my incentive" I could hear Larry's heart swell to three times its normal size. :-) Good work!
Agreed, the guys did an amazing job cleaning it up. I will though never understand why some owners let great old cars like this get into such a state. I wouldn't be surprised if it's put back into the same shed and abandoned for another 30 years.
And even though you know its got bad paint, you're still captivated enough to watch. I want to see this MG fully restored, maybe Larry can do final detailing on it.
my dad is the hardest working and most humble man i've ever met. 6-7 days a week in a metal fabrication shop, sometimes 12+ hour days at 70 years old. his dedication and ability to restore classic cars is unrivaled. the barn, which isn't "in the open" was built specifically to preserve his cars for a time when he could properly fix and enjoy them. my dad, Bob is the epitome of what a car enthusiast should be. i can't think of anyone more deserving of his collection, or capable of restoring them. they will not sit another 30 years so please don't be so quick to make assumptions. thanks for watching 👍🏼
@@derekmatcheski I'm sure his comment was just a snide joke but your reply and your fathers comment is exactly what this community likes to hear(the spark of inspiration). I hope Maggie gets a long life back on the road! The work to the barn/shed(despite being aged) really shows as vehicles such as Maggie would not have survived 44 years in a normal ratty old shed.(at least not up here in Canada) I appreciate what you do and I love your taste in cars!
SO HAPPY to hear the direction he plans on going with "restoration". Do the chassis, make it run, make it safe, and plop that amazing patina O.G. body right back on it! Yes!!!
Just registering here my appreciation for the fact that you don't make your videos into those 30 to 45 minutes chore-to-watch and still i never feel like i missed anything, thanks
I think the reason so many of us enjoy these types of videos is that we can imagine doing this ourselves on our own neglected projects. Seeing the transformation gives us motivation to do more. For the cars already running, cleaning them up will give you some confidence to enjoy the car while yo make improvements over time.
That dash turned out amazing! I love the door handles on that thing, they're literally gate hooks, really brings home the old Top Gear saying about being built in a shed haha.
There’s something special about seeing old paint preserved. Dare I say I like it better than flawless perfect paint preserved for decades? It adds character to the car, shows the age but projects the love the owner has for their beautiful machine after all those years
It breaks my heart to see classic cars just forgotten but when they’re restored back to life it makes me really happy. Good to know that people like this exist. Great job man!
I've only played an hour of Detail Simulator but I am absolutely loving it so far. It's still a bit un-optimal for cleaning and detailing right now with our weather in reality, so I've been so excited to get playing it and live out my detailing dreams virtually, until I can start doing it in reality :D
I can not get over how watching these videos. I actually learn how much I don't know about detailing. On the other hand. I just cleaned up a couple of 45 year old chrome bike wheels. That were completely yellowed from flash rust. Using just 600 grit steel wool with soapy white vinegar. And results even removed most of the pitting!!! I was dumbfounded, and thrilled. Got any suggestions!??! LoL..
This is really exciting as my father had a TD (Red) that he bought in 1951 and then added a supercharger to it later . He sold it not long after I was born ('53) so I've only seen old photos of it. Thanks for a great video!
I love his plans for the TD. I love that patina. It will be driven more often if you aren't worried about a new expensive paint job. I might clear coat it as is.
My grandma when she got her license in 1953 she wanted to get one of these in this color but her dad refused so she got a used gray Nash sedan instead which she had into the 60's
The song at 5:45 is the song DankPods uses to test super high end headphones vs other headphones, and it caught me super off guard to hear it in an AMMO video. :P
Amazing! My dad has a red '51 TD when I was a kid. I don't remember much about it because he sold it when I was 7, in 1987. Watching the video I was able to gain some appreciation about the car and why my dad loved his.
Brings back memories of my first car----A '51 MG-TD that I got in '67. It looked cool and was fun to drive, but like most BMC cars, was mechanically a POS as a daily driver. It appears you only have one original hub cap---on the spare. They were already hard to find in the '60s, along with badge bars and side-curtain frames.
The "jack" you refer to is a beer/soda can opener. They were very common in the UK until ring pulls appeared. If you bought enough cans, you were given one free.
I'd love to see a video about the cleanup after you do one of these big jobs! Your brush cleaning process, shop cleaning, tool cleaning. It would be interesting
Thank you for sharing this restoration/survivor detail video. And it is always good to see you in action with Buff Daddy" Kevin Brown and Jason Rose!!!

@@AMMO-NYC Will you update us on it if they do?! 🙏
@@AMMO-NYC Follow up videos on the mg and dutson maybe? 👀
What I love about these videos is that even when the paintwork is clearly ruined, the car still gets the love and care it deserves

100%
And outside of the polishing, it's a necessary step before any real restoration work begins.
And even though you know its got bad paint, you're still captivated enough to watch. I want to see this MG fully restored, maybe Larry can do final detailing on it.
@@SlartiMarvinbartfast did you watch the video? He said why it was in this state.
“Nice to meet you”
“Good to be met”

To be a fly on the wall during these details would be amazing! Having you three working on the same car together is incredible. Love these details.
Awesome! his dad can now park it under a barn shed in the open for another 30+ years.
😂
Casting pearls before spoiled rotten pigs
Thats sad ngl

5:45 it's the song that dankpods uses for headphone comparisons lol😂
Always waiting for the Friday video 👍👍👍💪💪💪
5:50 not used to hearing that song without also seeing some headphones on screen
Exactly what I was thinking, or hearing it run for the full length
Man, how cool, I can't imagine how much fun it was to detail Sam Elliot's car 🔥
he gets that all the time 😂
@@derekmatcheski A wiser fella once said, sometimes you eat the bar, and sometimes, well, the bar eats you.

It's great to hear that the owner is motivated to bring this relic back to life and keep the history alive. Awesome work as always sir!
Super awesome to see the owner be excited about his car again. I love this channel!
Thank you for all you do! You make my OCD seem “normal”. Your products are amazing too!!
I love how you motivate the owners to get these beautiful machines back on the road. Absolutely beautiful work! Great job!

What a transformation! That old, dingy, British Racing Green is just so classic on these sporty little cars of the past. Bravo!

When patina looks good, keep it. Character is invaluable

The issue is that there’s rust that needs to be fixed or the car will cease to exist
Patina is a term used for I want a classic car but I can only afford to restore the running gear which is not a properly restored car
@@bmwman1981 Original cars with patina are worth far more than restored cars.
@@gotham61 I’d rather have a really well restored car over a half done car
Damn, that barn is a national treasure. It just keeps on giving
That's amazing, I'm really enjoying these "survivor" details you're doing.
Thank you! It’s a cool challenge for sure :)
I have found that Bronze wool is better on chrome because it is softer than the chrome and will not scratch it.
Amazing as always. The dad joke, “good to be met.” 😂
DANKPODS!!!! LOVE IT

I love watching you bring forgotten vehicles back to life cosmetically giving people the want to get them back on the road.
Love your time references...45 minutes of work for a team of professionals with everything means a whole weekend for average people!

i love all these garage rescues, so many beautiful cars seeing the light of day again
Excellent job, but the true show stopper was the son's mullet and Killer Loop sunglasses. Nice!
Thank you for sharing the steel wool and polish technique for restoring oxidize metal. I am really excited to try this out!
Another terrific ‘save’ and awesome gift to inspire the owner to get her back on the road! Keep up the stellar and inspiring work, Larry 😎
