    I always think that German Anakin screaming "ICH HASSE EUCH" at the end of Revenge of the Sith is really hilarious. It literally means "I hate you", but with the added context that you get from knowing the language well enough, you'll realise that he is being very, very formal and polite about it. Basically, the normal word for informal conversations is "du", the formal and polite one is "Sie" and the extremely polite and formal one (mostly used for monarchs and stuff) is "Ihr". "Euch" is one of the variations of "Ihr" (It's a grammar thing).
    Tl;dr: German Anakin is being very polite while screaming at Obi-Wan that he hates him.

    • @cineglotis
      @cineglotis  6 месяцев назад +191

      One more reason why it's better for him to scream that in Spanish, not to mention that he doesn't sound like as much of a bitch in Spanish as he does in English XD

      Another German here. Watching that scene on TV over a decade ago, I had this interpretation:
      "Euch" might be formal, but its also distant. It implies a lack of connection, more so than "Sie". Euch can also refer to a community (like the jedi) and what it represents. Obi Wan just reminded him in this very painful and emotional moment, that he had a duty as the chosen one, which is pretty cold and pragmatic. Almost like saying (from Anakins warped and emotional perspective) "You were a tool for a higher purpose,which you HAD to be at all costs. No matter what you wanted or needed" like thats more important, then his own needs. Anakin despises being seen as a tool of religious fantatics. (remember "From my point of view, the Jedi are evil") So the "Ich hasse euch!" could mean " I hate everything you and the jedi stand for and believe in!" which is a more powerful declaration of hate, which makes it more devastating in my opinion.
      Another more simple interpretation and one that might be more likely(but not as cool), is that Anakin is just to used to refer Obi Wan with "Euch" since for the longest time, he was his master. If you refer to somebody that often with a certain pronoun, it just tends to stick.

    The latin american spanish/mexican dub is actually really good, it makes the prequels (and I would argue that all the movies) sound better, don't get me wrong, actors like Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, Christopher Lee and Ian McDiarmid sound great, but even Hayden Christensen sounds a lot more serious and angrier, just looking at Episode 3 (where I think he acts the best), damn, you really suffer hearing it in that version, even Darth Vader's voice (in this and the OT) sounds pretty much like James Earl Jones in spanish.
    Maybe that's why I grew up loving the prequels, since they were the first Star Wars movies I watched, also George Lucas contributed to the latino/mexican dub, by sending a list of terms and names, and how they got to be pronnounced.

    Its hilarious, ive always wondered why everyone hated the prequels because of "bad dialogue" and "bad acting", i thought they were just going way too much into detail.
    Then i remembered that I was obviously watching the german dub since I was a kid, and the voices just make it so much better. If you actually understand it then the dialogue and overall speaking has so much more emotion than in the original version.
    Im so proud that most german dubs are always extremely good with a ton of thought put into them, I couldn't even imagine watching literally any movie in a country where dubbing is not seen as such an important thing

      @@Spillow-Cthey used a more mature voice actor with a lower voice, more typical for the type of hero he is (especially ep 3 and clone wars) in Russian media. Both his face and biography are recognisable.
      Star wars actually uses plenty of Russian culture, padme's dresses to the fact that a lot of facts on Anakin's biography come from actual heroes of Soviet Union.
      Russians also rewrite a lot of dumb scripts when it's dumb.
      Sequels don't feel Skywalker partly because they use nothing Russian.
      Russian dub is enough to save the movie, a lot more Russians love Anakin than foreign fandom does.
      And no, he doesn't necessarily sound 40, guys on the Soviet dub of ep4 do.
      Let's say that Luke is based on Soviet cult of cool pilots, and copies Gagarin a lot, and Anakin is a mix between that and a bunch of epic heroes of our folclore, he pretty much looks like one (they're Scandinavian decence, with softer face as many Russians do and indeed had long hair and wore long shirts and capes).

    Palpatine's original voice actor was Pádua Moreira, the voice acting director of the Prequels and Darth Vader's voice (VHS, the most recognizable)
    Pádua has a very elegant way of speaking, and he's such a excellent actor that you COULDN'T TELL it was one guy's voice in the Darth Vader/Palpatine scene (the "NooOOOo" still is memey)
    The Anakin's VA changed in the new version too I think? Disney aligned his movie voice with the Clone Wars voice, which is good... But idk, I prefer Peterson Adriano's voice. I'm fine with Kaminoans speaking English. It's like the rule with a Muppets movie: one of the characters needs to be human acting Muppets so for a dub-replacement project like this, someone's gotta still speak the native language of the film

    How French dub performing on the sarcastic tone? In lore, having him speaking English wouldn't make sense. But French? The diplomatic language of this world? Would reinforce the irony even more.

    Fun fact: in latinamerican Spanish (Spaniards have their own dub) clone wars and the prequels share the same dub, so Anakin's performance is a lot more cohesive experience in that version

    As a German, the appreciation of German dub is heartwarming. :) I grew up with these movies in German and would say the German voice actors managed to add some more emotion and humor in their line delivery compared to the OV. Nonetheless, both versions co-exist in my heart to this day.

    As a german, i couldn‘t be happier about your decision. I grew up watching the prequels dubbed, they basically have cult status for me and many others. In part, the german dub even fixes some slight problems left in the original dialogue. For instance, the line „Only a Sith deals in absolutes“ that has been memed to death because Obi-Wan used an absolute statement while simultaneously condemning it. In german, he says: „Nur ein Sith kennt nichts als Extreme = Only a Sith *knows* *nothing* *but* extremes/absolutes“ ,which is exactly the point Obi-Wan was trying to make without making him sound like a hypocrite.

    • @Сайтамен
      @Сайтамен 6 месяцев назад +4

      @@idbadgeman5943 It shows the largest battle in the Clone Wars, deaths of Dooku and Grievous, Kashyyk battle, Anakin's conflict with Jedi and himself, his weakness (save who he loves), which perfectly works with saving Luke, Palpatine's manipulation and rise to power, Order 66, 2 amasing final battles and the creation of Darth Vader and Empire, birth of Luke and Leia, new hope. It is the most meaningful for the whole Galaxy and is the most emotional.

    • @idbadgeman5943
      @idbadgeman5943 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@Сайтамен Exactly. You only bring up the moments. You couldn’t bring up normal stuff that makes a movie good, because it is barely in the film to begin with. It also has some flaws with connecting the original trilogy. For example, Yoda instantly gave up after fighting Palpatine once. Shouldn’t he go back again with Obi-Wan and be more prepared?

    • @Сайтамен
      @Сайтамен 6 месяцев назад +5

      @@idbadgeman5943 What normal stuff do you mean? Character arcs are present, all Chechov's gun work here, the plot culminates, the story ties up to the OT. Yoda lost his lightsaber and the was a squad of clones arriving, he couldn't win this fight and had no other chance to sneak on Palpatine again. It was reasonable to retreat and prepare a new generation, giving time for the Rebellion to grow.

    This does not only work for the reason you mentioned like lore improvment but also for my viewing experience. I know these movies inside out, so even with the language changes I know basically what is spoken. The fact that I am german, had french in school and know spanish which also is related to portuguese and italian lets me immerse myself even a little bit more. And don't forget George Lucas' style of dialog which is straight forward and meme worthy/quotable.
    I am looking forward for a complete cut.
    Keep the good work up :D

    Fun fact of the brazilian dub! In the "UNLIMITED POWER" scene, for lip sync reasons, the actor had to put the word "morra" (die) in the end of the sentence. But because of the sound effects, makes it sound like he said "porra", which translated, makes he say something like "UNLIMITED FUCKING POWER!"
