Not gonna lie. This is better than any professional tv show. More interesting, more entertaining. You two are brilliant. You need more sponsorships. Everyone should be watching you.
I like the way you don’t over dramatise the issues you are coming up against, and there’s plenty and there will be more, we’re all following because it’s a great project and you are both very engaging and honest ❤
Squeaky Emily is fast becoming my favourite of all things I watch and follow. Also, Louise's editing and general video craft are exceptionally good, which helps to make your channel so watchable. 👍
The spilt seed from your bird feeders will be a lovely snack bar for Roland and family. 😢 I'm with Emily on this one. You can't evict rats. They'll come back quicker than you can put the corrugated roof back.
Sorry girls but the answer is too send Roland and Co to ratty heaven. They don't want to leave and they invite others to join their group. Screwfix do a great kit for getting rid. We had them in our last property it was awful and they get braver the longer they stay 😮
I strongly think that Roland will not be by himself. Amusing content, but even as an animal lover, I would suggest getting Pest Control in. You don’t want rats anywhere near the buildings/contents/water supply.
I love it, "we go again in 25". You two are a pair of real troopers. You should be very proud of yourselves and what you've achieved so far, and the fact you have so many dedicated followers. Well done. 👏👏 👋🇬🇧🇪🇺🇺🇦🇮🇪
@@yvonneattridge4788 Yes unfortunately Human`s and Rats cant cohabit because of disease and I believe they are inadvertently quite destructive inside somebody`s home.
So funny, and I am proud you are not going down the poison route. Are their humane rat catchers? Don't they say that we are all only a few metres away from a rat. Hope Roland decides to leave of his own accord. 🙏🐀
So pleased you had a great break as you very much deserved it. I’m an animal lover and vegan, I have had rats as pets as they are so amazing. I know the wild rats are different but I’m with you Louise, to try and catch him/her alive. Incredible with the mould spores growing in that short time. I love the way you explain things Louise, even my brain understands lol I laugh so much when you do squeaky Emily voice so funny x
My neighbour in scotland has a van not unlike yours. The worst thing we found out is that modern vans have wiring insulation that is made from a soya resin. Good news is that this is very eco-friendly and works well. Bad news is that Rats, Mice, and Squirrels LOVE the flavour of this stuff, so yes, I concur with those who advise drastic measures before he discovers the van wiring loom...
I really recommend considering hempcrete for your house walls (internally) to overcome the damp & mould issues you were talking about when explaining why you don't want plasterboard and an unvented cavity. The difference it has made on my solid walls is incredible, and the bonus is they are clay plastered, which buffers humidity brilliantly.
Hi girls, fantastic videos! Also sending you happy new year too. My father and his neighbours had rats in their lofts two years back and it was a nightmare. We called in a pest control company and they immediately said ‘several houses along here have bird feeders in the garden. You feed birds, you’re also feeding the rats as they raid them too and the spills’. We put traps down and removed the bird feeders and they immediately disappeared. Sadly, as lovely as they are to have - all the time you have bird feeders, you’ll continue to have rats. Hope that’s of help. One last point - the rats take several days to trust and take a chance with traps. Also, they LOVE peanut butter. So, we used that to tempt them and it was successful once they trusted the trap units (they were the spring arm type).
Happy 25 ladies, had a rat last year, tried humane traps and blocking its access points, nothing. Out of frustration I put out the classic neck break traps and I kid you not it left, never triggered a trap but as soon as it knew I was after it’s life, it jogged on. Smart creatures, I begrudgingly respected it, anyway have a great year and massive love as always x
Rats (and mice) tend to hug the walls so put humane traps in their normal route by the wall. Also they like peanut butter so bait traps with that. Good luck!
I've lived in my house for 20 years and never seen a mouse or a rat anywhere in or around my property until last summer after putting up bird feeders in my garden and suddenly saw mice on two occasions and a rat the third time. I removed the bird feeders and so did my neighbour and that seemed to do the trick as I haven't seen any mice or rats since, thankfully. I really hope you get rid of your problem as rats are not good to have around and remember contamination with rats urine can cause weil's disease which can be fatal.
A compromise is to put the bird feeders away at night, preferably in a metal rodey proof box, and bring them out again when the sun comes up. A bit of a nuisance, but better for the birds.
@@alilonghair7792 The problem is that birds are messy eaters and lots of seeds end up on the ground. That's where the mice and rats were eating the seeds not from the actual bird feeders, that's why I had to remove them entirely even though I loved seeing all the birds in my garden.
Thank goodness you're back, I was getting withdrawals , I see the common consensus agrees with Emily, having experienced rural living and restoration with many wildlife visitors the only unwelcome ones were rats, you really need to eliminate. I moved from the uk years ago and the best ever piece of equipment I bought was and is a dehumidifier, would not be without one! Good job on all you've done, love to you all ❤
Over our 12 years in our cottage that we are still renovating 😂we’ve had a few unwanted visitors and I know it’s not the preferred method but we had to use the old fashioned traps as we couldn’t collect in a humane way. Try chocolate tho as rodents love that. Also we had to stop feeding the birds as the grain they dropped attracted all sorts to our garden… another reason that Roland isn’t taking your bait ( he’s too well fed) Totally agree tho when living in older properties that need lots of work there is always a never ending list of jobs. You are doing great… 2025 will be fab! And yes AJ is the most loved pooch on RUclips 😍
Good to see you're back at it girls. Fun fact, I'm in Dublin right now on vacation. Second time I'm on vacation in this great country, and I love it just as much as the first time! It's always nice getting down to the warmer parts of the world where it's not even close to -15 degrees celsius like back home. Give AJ and Summer all the cuddles! ❤
Today on this episode of cozy cottage in Ireland The ongoing attempt to evict Roland and family. I'm with you Emily. As much as you don't want to use poison and because there probably are more than just Roland I think it's your best bet. One of the main reasons I was excited to hear y'all were moving out to the boonies is because I grew up on 65 acres with cows, tobacco, alfalfa and a garden in the peace and quiet. It was everything and I believe everyone should experience living that way atleast once in their life. It's definitely not for everyone long term but it teaches you so much and alot more than you'll ever get from books and living in the city. It's a different sense of appreciation for life, where food comes from and how hard it can be. Winters were brutal and summers were spent outside day and night. At the age you and Em are I believe your little place is perfect to spend the rest of your life in. P.s. I love high pitched Emily. It gives me a laugh every time.
We’re with Lou on rescuing roly if possible. The best bait we’ve found for humane rat traps is chocolate. So any one of Emily’s chocolate snack bars should work 😁 Male rats also make nests to sleep in, one of our male pet rats actually ate the inside of a chair to make himself a nice warm nest! We don’t think you will get rid of the rats completely as you have too many holes at the moment. Summer and Martin will keep the rats down but we’ve found a couple of sonic deterrents plugged into a power socket will help to keep them out of the house. We live next door to an old cemetery so we are used to rats trying to get in the house. Hope this helps. ❤ Sandy & Thea. Happy 2025
Also, after many failed attempts to capture the rat that had made it's home in my garage I finally came over to Emily's way of thinking and invested in a battery operated shock box. If I had to kill it, it needed to be as quick as possible.... Best of luck
Made skills and dynamic duo r u. We just lost out 11 yo golden doodle and seeing AJ running around makes me happy for you all. Precious time with him. Our dog was too big to enjoy van life but he loved the woods and tolerated the van. Y’all are living your best lives - thanks for allowing us along.
Holy moly I've never been so glad to hear Louise gabble on at break neck speed. Get her done! That rat's got to go!! You two are so suited. Many thanks to both of you xoxo
Firstly guys a very Happy New Year. Second, take it from me, who has fought a running battle with rodents, there is only one way to eliminate the problem. Mix a few peanuts with, yes, rodent poison. You can't be too sentimental with creatures who will multiply and multiply. That said great vlog, full of energy. ❤️🇬🇷
AND where there is one…well we all know the old saying. Lou I am usually with you but this time…Emily gets my vote! Yucky things those rats and all their gifts they bring along. Call the pest control if you don’t want to kill it….or should I say them.😂
It’s going to have to be snap traps for us, we can’t use poison in case AJ or summer get hold of it, they tend to come outside in search for water as the poison dehydrates them and they can then poison anything that catches it.
@@campervibe Yes, so dangerous for pets and any other wildlife, and it gets all over the place so probably not good for humans being around it. Stainless steel bin and steel mesh might help deter them, even if its installed one room at a time (zone by zone).
Re Roland, rats everywhere. They'll be back until house sealed. Use ultrasonic deterrents and secure bird feed in the meantime. We put a few paving slabs under the feeders and now can spot when the rats start coming in from the fields at the end of summer. I know there's not much difference between winter and summer in Ireland, but...
My wife and I did 3 houses in France like yours. Only 1 of ours had internal water and none of them had a toilet. so fully appreciate what both of you are doing. Well done and good luck for the future.
Happy New Year Louise and Emily, great to see you back, hope you both had a fantastic Christmas. Looking forward to your next video. Louise, you are a wealth of knowledge in the DiY world !!
So glad you got to spend the festive period in the cabin. Thank you for giving me a giggle with your first video for 2025 and a happy new year to you all.
Louise, you absolutely amaze me. I have DYI’d all of my life very much like you but I would have never attempted to build a house like you did❣️BRAVO. A very Happy New Year to you both. Love your channel have been watching you two for years 🥰
I'm still amazed that Emily still believes Louise's patter about space and comfort when the cabin is obviously the best way to get a 5* workshop at the earlist possible moment. Louise I really envy your shed.🤣.
I am really enjoying seeing the cabin come together; I can hardly wait to see it 100% completed. And I'm enjoying all of these adventures as much as your van life! I think I'd just live in the cabin and turn everything else into a garden... strip the house down to the stone, remove the roof, and let things grow in there... you'd have a really beautiful secret garden and Roland would be set! ❤ You're doing amazing work!! x
Rodent tip, my bud from canada uses dryer sheets in his classic cars over winter, strong smells they don't like, it's worked for my mini, might be worth a punt. We are all glad to see everyone again, we've missed ya! 😚💌
@janinedevilliers510 for tumble dryers, just looks like a cloth but scented. Bounce is a brand but others are available 😉 I also use 'unstoppables' in a tiny linen bags under my camper bonnet.
I’ve got some peppermint oil for once we get him out as that’s meant to be one they don’t like but doesn’t get rid if they are in but we will try it anyway as well
HNY to you lovely peeps. Bless you for trying to do the right thing by Roland and family. Good luck. It lifts my heart seeing AJ so happy. I lost my Otis just before Christmas and am devastated. Take care and stay warm. Xx
Meanwhile as the vandwellers sleep soundly, the roof lifts and Roland using thermal binocs, is studying the new shed and THE VAN. To be continued........ 👁👁👁 Sorry Emily 😉 love your build & vids.
We had an episode of having a Roland rat that came through to our house through the cavity walls from next door. Our next door neighbours at the time had a veg shop and they used to bring the boxes back. He was a bit of a steptoe and it looked like steptoes yard. We found that he’d been up in the loft and also getting in behind our fireplace. We brought in a pest control and they put a bait down that causes the rat to be extremely thirsty and leave your property. The rat caused over a £1000 quids worth of damage by chewing wires on our appliances. He had to go
That's poison 😂 many poisons dehydrate you and kill off the liver and kidneys. Be careful with poisons as if owls or pine martens eat poisoned animals they'll die too.
lovely to see you girls again, Happy New Year. Roland has got to go so hopefully that will happen for you soon. look forward to seeing you on the next one, cheers
I had a beautiful European finch in my feeder a couple years ago I was so excited as they aren't native to north america. Learned that it was probably someone's pet which had escaped.
So happy to have you ladies back on my screen. Lord Roland the ratmeister is undoubtedly in residence with his entourage. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for an easy catch and release.
I live in the woods and many people are successful eradicating rodents from their property by having barn cats raised for such a purpose that live outside year round and find their own food source. Put a flap door on an old inshoolated 🤪 cooler and they will stay warm in freezing temps. I'm sure they would take care of Roland and his roommates in no time. It's their job. If you see one you have about a dozen more and they will be nesting inside while it's cold making more friends and family. Don't feel bad about dispatching them, they are filthy little property destroying disease factories. The cabin looks great!
haha...we have six cats currently, all fab hunters. Alas they just could not catch Ratius that invaded our kitchen for the best part of 9 months. I was shocked tbh, on a daily basis they bring us gifts home!
Oh I bet you have a wood rat. They are huge, and very smart. I had one living in between our floor boards in our cabin. Couldn't lure him out, but the landlord put bait out for it. Broke my heart.
Cover the traps with a old towel & place them against the wall rats don't like anything new in their environment bait the traps but don't set them for a couple of nights they will get used to traps & free offerings so when you do set the traps you may you only catch one or two you may need a trap to catch multiple rats v simple to make yourself. Happy new year 🎉
I love this start to the new year with Emily going bat shet crazy and Louise keeping us informed on the straight and level; Iove it! Happy New Year you all.
ye girls make a great team, started watching your channel a year and a half ago to get tips for travelling in Europe with a Motorhome. Love the content 👏
The girls are back 🤸♀️🤸♀️🤸♀️😁😁💕. Ohh my lord I’m wetting myself laughing 🤣🤣🤣. I just love Em’s reaction to everything and the way her voice goes high pitch. Honestly Lou I don’t know how you can keep a straight face. I love love love your channel. It’s great to have you back. Happy New Year ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Awwww you too ❤ both amazing in your own ways... and very very good to point out its never ending and very hard work😊 you explain really well the process and we've seen you hardly able to get up and walk just before Christmas..but until you actually do this or a similar project you just can't take it in...if people think its easy let them try...this goes for any life experience really... it all looks romantic and it is.... but not simple or easy at all... so really important you actually say that. I admire you both for all that you create..its and you are wonderful 🙏
Used to be my job ...live traps can work but you have to pre-bait them with a food you have addicted the furry little fellows to for weeks ...... chocolate raisons, peanut butter ,nutella....
I tried everything to get a rat to go into one of them traps sausage, peanut butter peanuts but what actually worked was an Apple try cutting an apple in half and put them half of the apple in the trap Also a good idea is make the trap door so it won’t shut fix the Apple inside so that the rat gets confident going in and out of the trap then set the trap so the door will shut👌
So glad your Christmas was warm and snug in the cabin. Having a mouse on the loose isn’t great but I’m sure you’ll catch him soon, you have lots to do so one little mouse ain’t gonna stop you. ❤ to AJ and I love the way he just threw himself in the cabin and went straight to his toys 😂 dogs are so sweet and as I have two so know exactly what they are like. Good building and I hope the snow and the rain can keep away for a bit ❤
Irish brickie ere... 34yrs on the trowel..... We don't use Breeze Blocks in Ireland... Well i have never laid them.... We use 4in Concrete Blocks... on farms u might use 6in or maybe 9in cavity blocks
I’d be keeping an eye on your van too. They’ll love nesting in your van if you let them. I’ve delt with rats in the past as I also lived one a farm. They’re just nasty and very destructive. I don’t like killing any creatures, but sometimes it’s the only choice. Best of luck!
I'd make use of one of your cameras and set it up in the bathroom (not like that 😂🤣😂) to see where Roland likes to wander. I used a camera to help me catch a rat that avoided every single type of trap I tried by rigging up a plastic underbed storage box, with weight added to it, on really strong fishing line that ran maybe 20m away to my lounge (you could run it to outside the cabin) where I tied it to something solid. I had the box suspended maybe 20 cm above the ground with some chocolate spread underneath as bait, so Roland had to stay put to lick it rather than grabbing it and running away. Then keep an eye on the camera on your phone, and cut the fishing line when Roland is under the box. Do make sure there is something heavy on the box though or he'll force his way out. My Roland avoided all the other traps I tried over a period of months, but I did finally catch him with this rather Heath Robinson method. Definitely something Louise can rig up I'm sure.
Oh boy! Roland is a bit of a challenge. I used to be with Lou on this issue, but having had mice in the house on more than one occasion, I'm now with Emily. Give them every chance to leave peacefully, ask them nicely, but if necessary... well, you end up doing what you need to do and I let Jo set bait. I hate it, but sometimes it's a necessity. Unfortunately, the bird feeders (or what's dropped around them) will also be very attractive to Roland and his mates. The joys of country living. It's not surprising that you've found it hard to get going again. You worked your butts off for so long, then stopped for a well earned rest that inevitably wasn't a complete rest because...well, there's always something! Just take care of yourselves and don't burn out. Sending lots of strength your way. 🙂

Happy New Year Louise and Emily, great to see you back, hope you both had a fantastic Christmas. Looking forward to your next video. Louise, you are a wealth of knowledge in the DiY world !!
I hope you are keeping safe during, this very cold weather.
Love your channel have been watching you two for years 🥰
Thank you for also sharing some faults and how to fix it!!
Great to have you back...All the best for 2025 and thank you for your content....cheers x
2025 words to sip Irish coffee by...Screws, roland, inshulation, moisture ! Happy New Year!
Awesome to see you guys again can’t wait to see what 2025 brings
I'm still amazed that Emily still believes Louise's patter about space and comfort when the cabin is obviously the best way to get a 5* workshop at the earlist possible moment. Louise I really envy your shed.🤣.
Its so funny when you fast forward Emily ❤
What are dryer sheets? Maybe I need them for my old farm house.
@janinedevilliers510 for tumble dryers, just looks like a cloth but scented. Bounce is a brand but others are available 😉 I also use 'unstoppables' in a tiny linen bags under my camper bonnet.
I’ve got some peppermint oil for once we get him out as that’s meant to be one they don’t like but doesn’t get rid if they are in but we will try it anyway as well
@campervibe true, but the honking whiff might just get it to bugger off!! perhaps a pair of work socks will do.🤣
No need to worry about baby rats: you refer to it as "he" and you named him "Roland" so clearly he cannot get pregnant.
HNY to you lovely peeps. Bless you for trying to do the right thing by Roland and family. Good luck. It lifts my heart seeing AJ so happy. I lost my Otis just before Christmas and am devastated. Take care and stay warm. Xx
Happy New Year Lovely Ladies! ❤🎉
Great to have you back missed your building adventures, thanks for all your efforts of filming while busy.hope you have a great year.
So with you in regards to Roland, Louise! Hope it all works out for that little freelancer and you guys! 💚
No wonder I don't get any goldfinches in my garden, you girls have got them All!!
I had a beautiful European finch in my feeder a couple years ago I was so excited as they aren't native to north america. Learned that it was probably someone's pet which had escaped.
🤣 we do have a lot 🤣
Good to see you both back!😊
Take care that you dont get rats in your vehicles, they can do a lot of expensive damage very quickly. love your channel.
So happy to have you ladies back on my screen. Lord Roland the ratmeister is undoubtedly in residence with his entourage. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for an easy catch and release.
Lovely to see you both chirpy even with Roland and a busy schedule. Looking forward to the next episode. Happy New Year 🎊 xx
Love the bird footage at the start…..amazing
Welcome back ladies x
Wishing you all a very Happy New Year. Looking forwards to another year of great videos and keep up the fantastic work
Cover the traps with a old towel & place them against the wall rats don't like anything new in their environment bait the traps but don't set them for a couple of nights they will get used to traps & free offerings so when you do set the traps you may you only catch one or two you may need a trap to catch multiple rats v simple to make yourself.
Happy new year 🎉
This is excellent advice
You 2 are brilliant ❤ your channel 😊
Beautiful intro! Amazing filmmaking though out. I’m always impressed.
I love your homestead Contant, so not missing the van life Contant too much right now… And we wanna make sure AJ and S ummer stay safe❣️
Love high pitched Emily!
I love this start to the new year with Emily going bat shet crazy and Louise keeping us informed on the straight and level; Iove it! Happy New Year you all.
wow, you have as many goldfinches as I here in West Cork, they are eating the sunflower seeds in no time! they are sooo beautiful!
ye girls make a great team, started watching your channel a year and a half ago to get tips for travelling in Europe with a Motorhome.
Happy New Year ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great you're back missed you Sunday.... OMG Roland I'd be gone for the hills.... my fear is unreal!
You are both absolutely wonderful 👍👍😊🏴❤️
Awwww you too ❤ both amazing in your own ways... and very very good to point out its never ending and very hard work😊 you explain really well the process and we've seen you hardly able to get up and walk just before Christmas..but until you actually do this or a similar project you just can't take it in...if people think its easy let them try...this goes for any life experience really... it all looks romantic and it is.... but not simple or easy at all... so really important you actually say that.
I admire you both for all that you create..its and you are wonderful 🙏
Oh I am with Emily I have bought some of those plug things that emit a noise to keep rodents away. Seems to work. Good luck !!
Same here
You two are so funny. You’re my comedy relief after a long day at work.
Always love a bit of high pitch Emily! 😆😆😆😆😆😆
Definitely best show. Well done guys. Looking forward to Sunday live 😁
Another great video Girls ❤.
Love you both especially high pitch Emily hope you can get Roland out safely before the babies arrive happy new year to you all x
Used to be my job ...live traps can work but you have to pre-bait them with a food you have addicted the furry little fellows to for weeks ...... chocolate raisons, peanut butter ,nutella....
And also it is illegal to release!.
You may as well keep the rats cause your basically telling Emily that she has too share her snacks😮😮😮😮😮😮😂😂😂😂
Good shout
I’m new to this channel, you two have quickly turned into one of my favorite channels. Thank you for sharing! Good luck and stay dry.
Take care of yourselves ladies with this weather ....it's bitterly cold !!!!!
It is ain’t it 🥶
Glad you ladies enjoyed your well earned break! Hopefully Roland will be caught soon! Take care!
High pitch Emily is brilliant . Roland needs to meet his maker though !
It's a rat not a mouse. 🙂
Irish brickie ere... 34yrs on the trowel..... We don't use Breeze Blocks in Ireland... Well i have never laid them.... We use 4in Concrete Blocks... on farms u might use 6in or maybe 9in cavity blocks
OMGosh! I was running after your explanation about the roof trying to catch up. Louise really knows so much about building. So smart!
I’d be keeping an eye on your van too. They’ll love nesting in your van if you let them. I’ve delt with rats in the past as I also lived one a farm. They’re just nasty and very destructive. I don’t like killing any creatures, but sometimes it’s the only choice. Best of luck!
Happy New Year! I love the video. I won't lie; I missed the videos, I have learned so much! However, I am so happy you all took some time and had fun!
Totally hooked on your channel. You are the best and definitely the channel to watch . Brilliantly brilliant .🏴🏴
Aw thank you 😀😀
Hi Emmely and Louise entertaining video, great to see you always have a smile and a laugh no matter what happens.kind regards Sean
Loving high pitch Emily!
