You can tell how much the channel is growing by how many people in the comments are questioning the bodgery and general lack of safety. Welcome to Tasy Classics 😂
Great work Ben, 👍 safety glasses with grinder recommended though, I have seen serious injuries from same, sermon over. Love the work and the Vitesse, thanks Ben.
Someone’s already said, but you need to sort that fuse out that’s got the fuse wire behind it. If you put a 30A fuse on top of a piece of 30A fuse wire, you now have the equivalent of a 60A fuse in that position, which is only slightly safer than putting a nail in it.
I love the unedited section at the end where you trying to get the viewers to hit the subscribe button. Don't worry Ben. Your work is awesome and we enjoy watching it. Your channel is gonna get real big real quick if you continue like that.
I hope every subscriber buys a raffle ticket for you Ben. I found this channel searching for tips and tricks to help me restore my 13/60 herald a year ago. You are a Friday night must have now and thanks for a great big effort again. The drivers floor plate has a touch of Pole barn, love it.
My first car was a Triumph Vitesse WAR 153E plenty of power from those 6 cylinders. I do know that the rear welding underneath where the rear stabilisers meet the short chassis cross member was due to a weak point when putting your foot down causing the break. Happened to me twice and was like driving a crab when you put your foot down as the axle would move. Great classic little car 👍
That was emotional congrats on superb video. Most nitwits these wouldn't know a vitesse from an everton mint. But unmistakable icon from my past anyway. Best bits, sorting the starter (big smile) windscreen wiper bonus and of course roller shutter door reveal, nice pose. Dont cock a snoop at safety though lol its best to have eyes and lungs that work.🙂
Oh that indicator sound!!!!! back to being half asleep on a long journey with Dad, the car slowing down at St Gabriels church and turning left. I had a friend who's Mum worked for Lucas calibrating indicators for sound!! imagine that
The first thing to do on a triumph straight six is fit a spin on oil filter conversion kit, The original oil filter assembly drains the oil back as it has no oil return valve. Every time you start it will take like 10 seconds for the oil light to extinguish as it has to prime the oil filter bowl thus putting more wear on the engine 👍 Having now watched the full video the gearbox is knackered, The Vitesse used an up graded Herald box but it was not up to the job.
I love ALL Triumphs...very soft spot for that lovely straight 6....The Vitesse is such a lovely looking car too...love it! This made me smile so much to see the little car back to life...wonderful
There is a coolant drain plug at the rear right side of the engine block at the bottom. These straight six engines like to collect a layer of silt there. It's a great place to flush the block from. Also the rad is supposed to have a cowling around it to direct the airflow. It really affects cooling above 40mph. Car looks great and I've put a punt on in the raffle 🤞
The pancake air filters are aftermarket, as are the hub caps. . If you have any questions I owned one of these for 6 years 1973-1979 and did absolutely everything to it. I would love to own another one
My cousin used to restore heralds and vitesse's when he was young. I used to really look up to him and thought one day that would be my kind of car. I went down the aircooled vw route but it inspired me to own classic cars. Ben another inspirational video superb!
Hi Ben, like you I'm not trained nor am I very clever! Your channel has become my go to for the resurrection of the old & largely forgotten (blimey could almost be describing myself!). Your passion is fun & infectious & teaches me a few tricks along the way. Much love mate & look forward to your future fun & entertaining projecrs! 👍😊
Drop one of those vinyl white circles with a black racing number over that crusty spot on the bonnet. Cover the problem, fits with the 'racing' splitter
An interesting thing I learned today is that modern cars use frequently updated software and uai's for their screens, when they stop being sold the support for those screens goes away so I feel the guys (probably me) trying to resurrect these modern cars in the future... It might become very tough!
If I remember correctly, there is a little lever low down on the petrol tank, which allows you to switch to a lower lever of pickup to act as a reserve level of petrol. I wonder if this one has that feature ? Of course you had to remember to switch it back when you fill up , otherwise you are running on the low level all the time. It must have been designed in expecting that the fuel gauge would fail at some time.
I've got my tickets 🤘🤘. Sidenote, Ben have you ever considered buying a power probe so you can feed power to wires etc as well as check for live or earth, without having to wave a live wire around hahaha.
I really love what you’re doing Ben! Your content is brightening my days 🙂 Not only because of the videos but also because of the music you choose in them! I‘m always getting excited when hear the words „Let‘s cue the music!“ and can travel down a new music lane!
Ok, in the UK you have MOT in a can across the pond we have Guaranteed To Pass in a bottle, simply because all they care about is emissions, the wings can be hanging off no brakes and oil pissing out and it will pass, also it can be as rusty as hell.
@@trevorjenkins3934 it's not a bad idea... wasn't giving you a hard time... but its the same as betting on horses. Ive built starters (and other things) out of a pile of parts.... and crossed my fingers. 😆
If there's room, fit an alternator. That bypasses any problems with the dynamo and voltage regulator. A friend did that on his car and had no further problems with dying headlights at night in the rain!
It is a “great little car”. My father had a 1275 Herald estate and on occasion when it visited the garage he was lent a Vitesse as a courtesy car. As compared to the herald I remember the ability of the Vitesse to drive up steep hills in top gear all the while gaining in speed. That straight six had good pulling power.
What a lovely episode. That front splitter is what makes the car look quite aggressive / sporty - if that’s a thing for this car 😅 Another awesome resurrection video. What gets me is the front is very timeless and defo could be on a car today, not so the rear..
I had an early vitesse back in the early 1970s.It was the 1600 engine without an oil cooler(which was on the later 2 litre engine). It had an oil pressure gauge and i drove it on the new M3 from Farnborough to Basingstoke.Oil pressure dropped to about 25 psi. There were several handling mods.Take off the rear leaf spring and turn over mid 2 leaves. This lowers it and gives slight negative rake.Front wishbones with thin spacers give similar rake on front.I replaced the gearbox with a recon one.Quite easy taking the cover off in the cabin.
What a beautiful day to take the Triumph Herald Vitesse out for the first time in 40 years. It’s dripping in 1960s British charm. My step mum had one in red, a convertible, with a cream top, iirc. I don’t know if it was a Vitesse or just a four cylinder Herald. I don’t remember ever being driven in it. Perhaps she hardly used it. She was an old fashioned, stay at home mum. I was pretty young (b. 1960) & she’s not around to ask. My family didn’t do photo albums. My wife does, so our grandchildren will be able to look back to before they were born.
Ditto I was born 1960 too, I have a MK3 Triumph spitfire which I restored 26 years ago, not been in a vittesse but was taken out in a MK1: cortina by m and d👍
I love your channel and what you do on it m8....your laid back and optimistic approach is first rate. I do have to say though I cringe when you use a grinder with no eye protection....I've worked in engineering all my life and getting a spark in the eye isn't any fun, especially having to go to the eye infirmary where they will remove it with a needle!!😮😮😮....in the worst case you could get blinded in your eye. Even in the late 80s when I was an apprentice, grinding without eye protection would of gotten you the sack!!!...honestly m8 , you only get one pair of eyes.....apart from that , keep up the very very good work 😊😊😊
My dad bought a regular Herald back in the mid 60’s, lovely little car. He always told me his dream car was the Vitesse. In later years I had an immaculate Mk1 Spitfire 4 moving on to a GT6 a few years later. Great vid Ben 👍 very enjoyable 🤘 Thanks
Purchased a few tickets to the raffle, would be an amazing thing to win, i think i would drive it straight up to my grandad and hand him the keys, he would be smiling the rest of his life. Thanks for the chance and thanks for the content as always. Looking forward to the next one!
Just got in from work, got my coffee in my new Tasty Mug 👍, now sat down for a little bit of Triumph magic, Ben maybe you should show a rogues gallery of people that have purchased merchandise at the end of videos
Bought a few tickets, less so to win the thing and more so just to buy you a pint mate. If I end up winning I'll have some headscratching to do on how to get it home, but I'll worry about that in the unlikely event that I win it 😂
Hi, much enjoy your work with classics, your enthusiasm seems boundless! Just a little word of help, don't leave the ignition on for longer than a couple of minutes or so because the coil can overheat. I'm impressed with the how quickly you solve problems, I hope you are inspiring the younger generation to tackle classic cars, are there anymore of you at home?
I worked on most Triumphs as an apprentice for a Main Dealer. Happy days servicing repairing them.Best part was test driving them the Stags,2.5 pi 's, Tr's.Atm restoring my VW t3 aircooled im 70 and keeping the spanners turning. Thanks for posting Vitesse vid love it 👍
I've really enjoyed these 2 videos -- brought back many happy memories of driving my 1964 Vitesse 1600 in the late 1960s. Great little car - very light controls, superb visibility and a really tight turning circle. Not so good was having to crawl under the car to replace the rear trunnion plastic bushes at regular intervals because they kept wearing out. Ah, happy days!
1:04:54..Janis Joplin, oh Lord won't you buy me a Mercedes-Benz, my friends all drive porches, I must make amennds...and the prev vid, King Crimson. Coolio😎. Just awaiting some Gong....rock on, from the planet gong, Mr Camembert electrique😂, perhaps some stray, Steve hillage or Todd rungdrens Utopia. Think I'm going to pull my albums down from the loft😁
I have really enjoyed this little car. Its the same year as me and has been off the road the same length of time as I have had my license. So glad you are restoring this sensibly. I cannot stand people who use words like concourse and pour time and money into a car they are afraid to use. This was a boy racer car in its early days and has picked up the Carlos Fandango wing mirrors and air scoop that were common in the mid 1970's. My Dad had one which was a convertible which he kept for a week before selling it. On the plus side he replaced it with a Beetle built in 1959 which was green, had three orange wings and was called Herbie in our family. The fueling appealed more to my Dads not liking petrol stations. Over a quid for a gallon of petrol in 1977! I will buy a ticket as love Spits and Heralds and that engine sounds so sweet. Just as an aside. I have pulled out those Borg Warner overdrive gearboxes and put them in kit cars. Please make sure the box and diff have fresh oil and new seals as they don't last long if run low and the overdrive can be wrecked quickly.
oh that takes me back, mum had a sky blue Herald, the first car I remember. She was a teacher, we used to spend our holidays in a caravan in the dales, taking our cat. One summer, on the last day, he went missing but we had to go home. Once there he miraculously appeared, covered in oil. We think he must have done the entire journey on those massive wheel arches under the bonnet
I love coming back and forth to these vids. I love the idea of these lengthy vids. You see the progres from start to Finnish without it left on a cliff hanger. Just getting on with it and the results show at the end.
Keep up the good work, Ben! There is some great content coming from you! Watched you from the very start. Giving PBG a run for their money with that floor repair, he will be using nuts and bolts next. Competition entered 🤞🏻
What an awesome job you have done on this car. Looking fantastic. Unfortunately being in Australia 🇦🇺 I can't win it. Love your channel even more each car. Have a good week. Marc from Australia 🇦🇺
Just love the car.... Put a few mirrors in the workshop, on either side then checking out if lights work....will be easy peezy. Thanks for a awesome series
Just found your channel, what can I say this must be the best car fix up show I have seen in a long time. Keep this up,love your cap have you got a on line shop so I can buy one. Once again keep on restoring these old classics. Rob
If both temp and fuel gauge aren’t working it could be the instrument voltage regulator at fault. Also for clearing blocked cooling systems try sulphamic acid (NOT sulphuric acid which sounds similar but strangely isn’t) - it looks like sugar but don’t put it in your tea. Dissolves all calcium deposits and is the most effective coolant flush I’ve ever used.
Good idea about the instrument cluster potentially being the faulty part, to account for u/s temp & fuel gauges. How would you go about confirming that diagnosis?
Sorry takes me a time to work my way through your video's (wife makes me do 'Honey Do's' )therefore I have to comment more than once. As a child (a ferking long time ago) when ever we stopped for petrol my farther would always get a shot of Redex for each gallon of petrol. That front splitter looks like crap and I didn't think it possible but you made it look worse😁😁😁😁 Great thing about waxoyl is when you weld after you have used it, it catches FIRE New name for your channel Bodged Tasty Classics. I once had a piece of grinding metal in my eye (did it whilst in the shower washing my hair) they took it out of my eye with a needle, don't be a dummy. Gotta say you are making it look much better.
Great episode and rafle tickets aquired! When you started to paint the spliter in white i realised how great the whole car would look in white! Watch that bit again and see for yourself at 1:19 mins in 😁
2 years, over 50 cars and fast approaching 300 videos! It’s a crime you’ve not burst through 100k subscribers, my weekends would be a lot duller if it wasn’t for your graft and passion for old motors. Really hope the raffle raises a decent sum that you can ‘invest’ in the mad dog Capri project. Smashed it yet again Ben, we’ll done.
Another classic - thanks - my mind is made up - I have to get something to work on soon. You are a total inspiration! Great work, great videos and a pleasure to spend time in your company. Here's to another 50 cars and many years of great content.
Top tip for fibreglass with that stuff is greaseproof paper just before it gets to the candyfloss stage take gloves off cover the fibreglass with the baking paper and smooth it down and works to push up underneath.. Leave to dry and peel paper off.. Helps with sanding too
Like most people, I had absolutely no idea that this problem could possibly exist. And I’m modestly handy, albeit not with vehicles old enough to be equipped with a dynamo.
Mate I've been a subscriber since day one and I love all your content And you and pole barn garage have inspired me to get my tools out and work on my own car. volvo v70 2.4 petrol 193.000 miles on her and still runs like a watch I've done as much work on her as I can it saves me money on garage bills and massive satisfaction on doing the work myself
PLEASE do not be insulted by this comment, the 'seal' you were showing on the caliper is to keep crap out not fluid in, that is deeper inside, . It's ok your learning.
My favourite so far although love them all. Love that Vitesse as a young boy it was one of my favourites what a sound and they were pretty quick in their time.
Well done for bringing this one back to life & I'm sure will go on to have another life with its new owner. The Herald was my first car and its still going to this day WTJ 90H.
Hardeners are all different. Years ago my neighbour had a cottage industry coating paxolin in moulds to create the insulating section for overhead electric railway cables (so the pantograph didn't pop up between sections) and he trialled various resins and hardeners to obtain best results. Of course the big boys eventually obtained a sample whch they analised and stole his idea.
Was fitting a wheel bearing to a family member’s car….long story but thought it had gone tits up,but all was fine in the end…..thing I’m getting at is when I knew it was all good I remember shouting “Come on”(Ben style lol) and I also shouted “Nice”…..thought it might be something you could put on the back of you T-shirts or mugs, just some of your says(as they often make me laugh.Great videos Ben,love the channel mate👍😉
The gravel has been acting like a soak away up till now. Concrete is not necessarily the right answer although I do sympathize because of the experiences I've had ' playing cars ' over the years. God bless you and keep you in Jesus Mighty Holy Name

Mine was a 1964 1.6 lt, AWP 426B. Rotten as a bloody pear chassis-wise, but I was a young man and it made a lovely sound ... (Ps a Volvo Penta is/was a boat engine, usually linked to an outdrive (s) if twin engined. Nice engine that was ...
That wire-wrapped fuse terminal, yeah, that's totally not a Photonicinduction "I want flaaaaaames!" moment waiting to happen, especially with the dubious roger the bodger wiring under the dash, might be worth fitting one of them twiddly-knobber battery cutoff terminals, just to be sure that off means off... :P
My mums boyfriend had this in a white convertible with a black stripe. It was 2litre overdrive too. Bloody loved it. If I win I'm going to give it to him.
The way you said “Ooh, toasty” while shrinking that heat shrink tubing sent me back to high school. There’s a hot sandwich chain in the US called Quizno’s and the tag for their commercials was “Uuuhhhmm Toasty”. If you ever want to be traumatized, Quizno’s had a edit:spongemonkey commercial. You’ve been warned
Hi Ben, I owned one of these cars and they do not like standing with the engine running. They get hot if I had it now I’d put electric fan in to cure this problem.
Ooh !, did I spot the ass end of a Granada Scorpio on your trailer ??, hope so !, haven’t seen one of them in YEARS. Also, yes, fibreglassing looks easy but, it has a mind of its own. Great video Ben, love this old Vitesse, she’s a keeper.
Okay, tickets bought, in a moment of madness. Not sure what to do if I win the thing, though I do have quite a stash of parts. Quite fancy a trip to Wales, though. We have not paid a visit since the plague started. That would be an ideal excuse. I wonder could that noisy drivetrain be trusted to make it to Holyhead. I can leave the car and trailer in the port, on this side, for far cheaper than bringing them over with me.
Watching this video on a Saturday morning, thinking what could be better.. and then Bam I get an email saying the grand tour season six is up.. get in.. 👍🏻 great video mate. After watching it you’d never guess, don’t they have a 3ltr ford capri in the episode. How gas is that! 👍🏻

Great vid Ben 👍 very enjoyable 🤘
Thanks
Purchased a few tickets to the raffle, would be an amazing thing to win, i think i would drive it straight up to my grandad and hand him the keys, he would be smiling the rest of his life. Thanks for the chance and thanks for the content as always. Looking forward to the next one!
Just got in from work, got my coffee in my new Tasty Mug 👍, now sat down for a little bit of Triumph magic, Ben maybe you should show a rogues gallery of people that have purchased merchandise at the end of videos
Bought a few tickets, less so to win the thing and more so just to buy you a pint mate. If I end up winning I'll have some headscratching to do on how to get it home, but I'll worry about that in the unlikely event that I win it 😂
take the old fuse wire out
Take that Vitesse round the Nurbergring. You have to!
Ooooh yeah cooooome soon!!!😊😊😊
Looking forward to this episode immensely 💚 ok where's my beers 🍻😁 * Bought some Raffle tickets too 🤞🤞🙏😃
Hi, much enjoy your work with classics, your enthusiasm seems boundless!
Timed to perfection! Just got to the gym, now the treadmill won't be boring!
Awesome! Almost 2.5 hours of pure entertainment! Beer and crisps at the ready!
It is not wind turbine 😅😅 it is Volvos maritime engine gear propeller line 😊👍
Just love the car....
Put a few mirrors in the workshop, on either side then checking out if lights work....will be easy peezy.
Thanks for a awesome series
Another absolutely brilliant video , Ben. Well done, matey 🤙🏼
Caressing until hard and getting it wetter to make it easier, only on Tasty Classics.
Just found your channel, what can I say this must be the best car fix up show I have seen in a long time.
Keep this up,love your cap have you got a on line shop so I can buy one.
Once again keep on restoring these old classics.
Rob
If it was me, I would have junked that front spoiler completely- not original to the car and does nothing for the overall look
It looks like one of those cheap after market items that were about then. .
Looks mint and it's part of it's history now 😊 my opinion
I agree dude should of spent time welding the floor up properly imo
If both temp and fuel gauge aren’t working it could be the instrument voltage regulator at fault. Also for clearing blocked cooling systems try sulphamic acid (NOT sulphuric acid which sounds similar but strangely isn’t) - it looks like sugar but don’t put it in your tea. Dissolves all calcium deposits and is the most effective coolant flush I’ve ever used.
Interesting. What are the chances that deposit removal will expose a leak (& what do you think of radweld type products)?
Good idea about the instrument cluster potentially being the faulty part, to account for u/s temp & fuel gauges. How would you go about confirming that diagnosis?
@@GT380man just bypass it - the gauges will start working but won’t give accurate readings.
Sorry takes me a time to work my way through your video's (wife makes me do 'Honey Do's' )therefore I have to comment more than once. As a child (a ferking long time ago) when ever we stopped for petrol my farther would always get a shot of Redex for each gallon of petrol.
That front splitter looks like crap and I didn't think it possible but you made it look worse😁😁😁😁
Great thing about waxoyl is when you weld after you have used it, it catches FIRE
New name for your channel Bodged Tasty Classics.
Amazing Video Ben, these cars remind me of my grandparents and the cars when I was young.
So glad i saved both episodes of this to watch together. What a fabulous way to spend a sunday evening, thanks Ben
Beers pizza and Tasty Classics Friday nights a belter COME ON!!!!!
God I really need some deep pan pizza place near me, I think next time thr misses is away I need to hit up pizza hut
Top tip for fibreglass with that stuff is greaseproof paper just before it gets to the candyfloss stage take gloves off cover the fibreglass with the baking paper and smooth it down and works to push up underneath.. Leave to dry and peel paper off.. Helps with sanding too
Hey Ben, if I win the raffle will you drive the little gem to Australia to deliver it, what a video that would be 😊
As I live in the US, it may be a problem. Thrilled for the winner. Also thrilled for your success on this beauty.
Hi Ben
When a dynamo hasn't been used for a while you have to repolarize it. Unfasten the belt and wire it up to 12v and run as a motor.
Like most people, I had absolutely no idea that this problem could possibly exist.
And I’m modestly handy, albeit not with vehicles old enough to be equipped with a dynamo.
Only found this out myself recently. Came up whilst restoring a VW beach buggy.
Save our splitter! Excellent video, yet again 👍
Mate I've been a subscriber since day one and I love all your content
And you and pole barn garage have inspired me to get my tools out and work on my own car. volvo v70 2.4 petrol
193.000 miles on her and still runs like a watch
I've done as much work on her as I can it saves me money on garage bills and massive satisfaction on doing the work myself
Good triumphs over the evils of non activity and everybody is happy 👍🏻😊😊
PLEASE do not be insulted by this comment, the 'seal' you were showing on the caliper is to keep crap out not fluid in, that is deeper inside, . It's ok your learning.
It's friday, I got a burger, coffee and ice cream. Best of all a new Tasty Classics episode. COME ONN!
Its that Friday feeling 👏👏👌
Do not breathe in near those brake pads/linings.... asbestos central.
Yep totally agree and I have the scar to prove it
Watching this while drinking tea out my shiny new tasty classics mug keep up the good work sir
The gravel has been acting like a soak away up till now. Concrete is not necessarily the right answer although I do sympathize because of the experiences I've had ' playing cars ' over the years. God bless you and keep you in Jesus Mighty Holy Name
OMG makes me feel really old when I look at this car and go I was two years old when that come out that they are beautiful looking cars I'd love the angry face on the front that will make someone an excellent daily driver that's what I would do unfortunately I don't have the space there's
too many carsaround here here already love the video love the car well done Ben
Such a good looking car isn't it
Mine was a 1964 1.6 lt, AWP 426B.
I love every single thing about this car.
With one exception...
The colour is foul.
And the trailer hitch.
Thats two things...😊
What a sweet old car. That could make a real nice restoration. You just cant beat the old uns for character Ben.
weirdest thing about this weather was no warning, one minute it was lovely and warm, next day fucking freezing....
Done a 1971 13/60 and a series 2 spitfire and loved working on them(except for the rusty outriggers).
I think stick to below 50 until the overdrive can be bought back to life and you'll be fine!
You're channel is very honest you never pretend to be an expert at anything love your videos Ben keep them coming.
Wax oil b4 welding?
Watching this video on a Saturday morning, thinking what could be better.. and then Bam I get an email saying the grand tour season six is up.. get in.. 👍🏻 great video mate. After watching it you’d never guess, don’t they have a 3ltr ford capri in the episode. How gas is that! 👍🏻
I want to thank you, for the videos and all the work you do to entertain us! Proud of you Ben
Hmm that floor reminded me of a story i heard about horse boxes once😂
Cheers to the next 50!
Dishwasher tab in the system; just like an enema. Great car, driven over Europe back in the sixties in one. Small but delightful. Thanks for posting.
