Second, you approach things much like I prefer to, simple and good enough to get done without overdoing things for no reason. I've been after a pocket camera for a while and have watched your videos on the RX100 VII at least 5 or 6 times. I pulled the trigger today on the little Sony, though it was nice to have videos like this to compare other models to it, your reasons for the RX100 VII being your favorite little camera convinced me. Looking forward to having that little powerhouse in my hand and seeing what I can do with it. Thanks for your content and for sharing your expertise and your approach, it's much appreciated!!
Refreshing to see someone show what can be done with lower costing gear. Like that he is not pushing the latest, greatest and expensive stuff and has the experience to know what works.
I've still got my RX100 mk5. I stopped upgrading after Sony removed the f1.8 aperture and the built-in ND filter. I love my mk5. The viewfinder is a must. I have an A6500, an a6000 an A7R5, a Sony FDR-X3000 video and several insta360 options BUT If I have to travel with just one camera it will be the RX100V. It is compact, has good image quality, has built-in ND, a viewfinder and fits a really great underwater housing. Sony always seem to get close to creating the perfect camera and then cock it up.
@@phillipbanes5484I added a magfilter system to mine. It enables quick and easy swap for polarizer, 10 stop and even a wide angle adapter lens. If only sony had added a mic jack and touch screen for focus it would have been near perfect.
Would you recommend it in terms of video? Looking for something that can take photos and videos but mostly care for quality over all additional features

Super valid! And the IQ on the Panny Lumix cameras is top notch. I may have to buy one of these to see how far they have come along over the years. Thank you for making this!
I use my LX10 for photography for almost 3 years now and I absolutely love it! The lens is indeed very sharp, the RAW files are incredibly good for editing (with a ton of dynamic range) and the wide aperture really helps it at low light scenes. Also, it can shoot macro from 3 centimeters (or a little over 1inch) with the great background blur. :)

Focus: for vlogging, the Panasonic Image App allows you to remotely control pretty much everything including focus. Typically I run the camera in manual focus mode, and press the AF in the app screen when I need to refocus. You can always do focus fully manually too on the app, plus the focus peaking works on the app. LX10 has been my goto go anywhere camera for a few years now. I bought it mostly for indoor shots in potentially badly lit places, so the F1.4 and 1” sensor were key selling points. Two main negatives (for me) are battery drain when not used for a while, and the on switch is too easy to inadvertently catch when putting the camera away, leaving you with a drained battery.
The LX7 produces very artistic images, but i prefer the canon g5x MII, the superior 1" 20MP sensor allows to more cropping, and 120mm zoom @ f/2.8 does produce nice background-blur. Also much better indoor camera as signal/noise on high iso is much better on canon. Although both have flash, but the Lx7 has shoe for superior external flash. Still the images from the LX7 feel different, and are more artistic.
The LX 10 is a portable cinematic beast. I have it from 2018 always mated with Zhiyun Crane M. It is 2024 I still have it. Bought recently a tiffen mist filter for it but haven't tried it yet. But, I guess I got too excited because I accidentally pulled the trigger on the G85X instead which does NONE OF THOSE THINGS. Oh well. Live and learn. I still enjoy using it but, I have to attach a big Desview monitor to the hotshoe to see myself. I love it when you talk about Lumix because I always learn how to dial it in just a bit better. Have you ever tried the Samsung exf2? Just curious on your thoughts. Shoots at 1080p and has a lowest aperture of 1.4. I have one but haven’t shot much video yet. Has OIS as well. Very hard to find though.
Samsung made GREAT cameras, shame they stopped. The EXF2 is only 12MP compared to the 20MP of the LX10, weighs almost the same and its actually a bit bigger than the LX10! And yeah it doesn't do 4K. But I never had one.
Looks like the entrance to the Mecca Hills Painted Canyon. I’m not sure if this filter adapter would work on the LUMIX, but it’s gunna be awesome on the 100VII NiSi Filter System for Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 VI or DSC-RX100 VII Digital Camera @ B&H
Would love to hear your thoughts on the best video camera with a large zoom with good stabilization and 4k. My vlogging setup only goes to 70mm (and can push that further with clear image zoom) but that’s still not close enough to capture some of the shows I film at theme parks and stuff. What’s your recommendation?
When you say 24mm-72mm, is that the 35mm equivalent, or does it need to be converted from 1"? Really cool camera. I absolutely love my Panasonic Lumix GX8. Also, what kind of car is that? The closest I can guess is an old Hyundai, but I don't think that would be right. A Maybach?
Yeah, I think the 24mm end becomes close to 36mm when shooting 4K. That is a 1.5x crop. But at 75 mm, that same crop makes 75mm even more telephoto at 105mm.
I enjoyed this review Marcus, but the lack of a mike jack is a deal-killer for me. I mostly film in the kitchen -- food, food prep and upper torso conversation shots. Am I stuck with the Sony?
what power issues? I recently went to Hokkaido Japan and I failed to take care of it and just put it on my hand carry trolley. Afterwards, the lens retraction smoothness problem occurs now. I have no power issues so far though I have 3 batteries from 2018.
I read some reviews saying that it has poor battery and focus. Did you experience this? Also comparing this with canon sx740 and sony hx99. Any thoughts on which one would be best for family pictures, etc?
LX10 is really good camera imo, it does however suffer in poor lighting which is a systematic issue of early Panasonic cameras, they all just, suck in low light, the colours turn all weird and stuff. But in good lights these cameras really do shine well, I hope Panasonic one day releases LX20 with all new autofocus system, I guess they wont, but one can dream, thats all the LX10 needs, a better AF system, its perfect otherwise you can even hack V-log to it, not sure why you would, but its possible.
What you think of the Blackmagic pocket cinema camera original? I can find it cheap but with just little more money i can get the 4k one . What do you think? Thanks Markus

Marcus, here is an idea for one of your videos, how about examining the new A.I. programs that enhance both video and still photography. I have seen video taken back in the late 80's turned into something that looks great. I have photos that I have do the same with. They were out of focus (too soft) and the program nicely cleaned them up.

Lets see a photoshoot between the 2! Bring Cara!
Great vid Markus !
the background in this video does not look like f1.4
1" is not the same as full frame, crop or M43
Thanks Markus! Can you get that bokeh with the Sony RX100vii too at 2.8 or the Pocket 3?
Thanks for an
Alternative Choice🎬
When you say 24mm-72mm, is that the 35mm equivalent, or does it need to be converted from 1"? Really cool camera. I absolutely love my Panasonic Lumix GX8. Also, what kind of car is that? The closest I can guess is an old Hyundai, but I don't think that would be right. A Maybach?
It's the equivalent... however, in video, there are significant crops... still, seems like a very good camera!
You don't need a pocket camera for kitchen videos. There are many many camera options out there.
I looked at prices for new and used Panasonic Lumix LX10s and they are almost the same as the Sony RX100 vii. Its also hard to find new.
Love my LX10. Unfortunately, it is having power issues now I wish they would come out with some newer versions.
what power issues?
But in good lights these cameras really do shine well, I hope Panasonic one day releases LX20 with all new autofocus system, I guess they wont, but one can dream, thats all the LX10 needs, a better AF system, its perfect otherwise you can even hack V-log to it, not sure why you would, but its possible.
how is background so nice, dreamy, and fantastical?
amazing colors
A nice compact pocket camera deserves a nice pouch.
yes
I wish there was a version with a non-telescoping lens that you just keep turning on and off without that extra battery and physical drain
What you think of the Blackmagic pocket cinema camera original? I can find it cheap but with just little more money i can get the 4k one . What do you think? Thanks Markus
Appreciate your "brain fresh" sharing again, may I ask about what brand of.ND filter you are using or could you share your video link if you already shared it previously? Lot of funny and learning when watching your sharing each time,.thank you very much again!
Great job Markus
You should do your photoshoots and camera reviews in area 51. It's way more quiet there and the background view is great.
Thank you
Love your reviews
Wish the LX10 went to 135mm, but 72mm is not enough for me but the lens on the LX10 is impressive.
Very good review , but why do you want a blurrry background Markus?
Very wonderful video
I have not tried the Panasonic Lumix. In your opinion, is it better than the Sony in terms of photo and video accuracy?
Both are food. My fav is the sony
@@MarkusPix Sony is really awesome
But after my experience with the Canon camera, I found it better in terms of photos and video and durability in construction
Markus has hundreds of beautiful background panels.
how better compared with lx100? prices are similar and aperture not so different
pretty interesting option.
used pricing. RX100VII: 900 Panasonic LX10: 450
Not content with driving up prices on used Sony 5100's today Markus turns his attentions to another formerly affordable camera!
😃😄😅
Marcus, here is an idea for one of your videos, how about examining the new A.I. programs that enhance both video and still photography. I have seen video taken back in the late 80's turned into something that looks great. I have photos that I have do the same with. They were out of focus (too soft) and the program nicely cleaned them up.
Thanks, Markus!
Thanks again Marcus.
