    I'm surprised how many people don't know about the level squish. Shadowlands did a level squish, hence why the level is 32. And the character names got flagged for a name change after not being used/logged into for so long.

      I play mainly for the story and team ups and guild buddies, not collecting every last bit of rare armor. I've been playing constantly since 2006 and still enjoy Shadowlands! My main character has 58 days worth of gameplay on him total. If you type /played you see the exact amount of time that character has spent logged in! ANyhows, that orc warlock outfit at the start: Great job!!1

    A very dear and close (best)friend of mine died during the middle BC. We had played on one another accounts back then, checking out different characters and helping where needed. When he died, the account was unintentionally left behind with me. I had talked with his family, went to dinner with them, etc. I even offered them his account information but none of them cared about a game. I continued to pay for the account until some changes were made making it impossible to log into the account - I was devastated and would have likely continued paying into the account to keep it active for many years, I didn't want to lose the last piece that remained. He was one of those guys that everyone loved and would do anything for anyone without question or expecting anything in return. I logged into the account every now and then for a while, just didn't have the heart to change a thing. I informed his guild what had happened to him, gave them some information about when, where, how, etc.
    RIP Luke. Miss hanging out, talking wow, snowboards, hunting, and girls.

    I logged into characters I hadn't played in 10 years or so to see that I was still in guilds. Some of them have actually pruned so much over the years that I was the guild master of now derelict former super powers. One of them had 999 members back in Cata. It was really sad. They weren't entirely empty or anything either. Some still had hundreds of neglected alts and mains.
    It put a lot into perspective for me. WoW isn't dead - it's still the biggest MMOPRG available. But the WoW those of us here from the early stages of the game experienced is loooong gone.
    Most of the people I ran into up until calling it quits for good last month were either newer or classic/tb/wotlk vets that can't shake up their obsession (addiction, really.) All of the people I enjoyed this game with are gone.
    After 15 years I signed my main off in a little lake in Teldrassil. The last screenshot I took that wasn't charts, achievements, or flexes, but entirely just me having fun in the game was from over 5 years ago when I took a selfie at that same lake with my best friend. Literally all I have of that friend is a damn selfie and now my mage will forever by sitting at that lake entirely alone.
    I love/hate WoW. I love my memories of this game but after spending half of my entire life on Azeroth, I've found leaving it to be painful. I feel home sick in a way that is very real. I stopped enjoying WoW a long time ago. It took years for me to realize that I had been spending every single moment of my free time sitting on WoW hoping that I would be catapulted back into 2008 when my friends and I would sit on tinychat all night just being kids. That won't happen and it leaves an empty feeling behind on some days.

    • @VividVoid
      @VividVoid  3 года назад +85

      Reading this made me feel sad and I relate to it a lot. Especially you logging off at the Teldrassil lake. I too have some amazing memories from playing this game back in the day, and it's depressing knowing that I'll likely never have similar experiences as I did back then.

      You put my feelings towards wow into words. Not gonna lie I cried a bit. But life goes on and you will find new things that will fulfill you. I came back to wow every expansion in the hopes, that it will reignite the passion I had for this game between 2006 and 2012. But the most important thing that was missing was the players I enjoyed the game with back in the day. That and the tons of free time I had.
      But all those people moved on, studied and got jobs. And I to will be start working end of the year and wont have any time for games such as wow. Its time to move on for me too. It is hard to accept that. I just wished I had my screenshots from back then..

    • @ZetsubouZolo
      @ZetsubouZolo 3 года назад +8

      yeah will I still enjoy the lore a lot even though many conisder it to be trash I kept coming back many times. But that las paragraph you wrote was painfully true, I think my biggest motivation for coming back was the nostalgia, trying to capture this feeling one more time that I used to have all those years ago when I first jumped into Azeroth in 2006 and was entirely overwhelemed by this huge world and opportunities and stumbled my way through it until I found a very great gild where I made lots of new friends. Luckily the guild lead is still one of my closest friends today but this magical time isn't coming back, i don't think I will ever get this much joy out of gaming like I used to. I'm just trying to hold on to this feeling.

      I used to play a Druid in BC. Then I switched to a Paladin in the next expansion, I also leveled my old Mage from vanilla and used those two in the following expansion as well.
      During the winter 2020/2021 I decided to play again for a week or two. This time I started a new Druid. After 1 or 2 hours I noticed that I did press the letter C prior to attacking a mob while in cat form. Then I did it again, and again. Then I remembered that C were the key I used for prowl on my original cat back in BC.
      For some reason that button had been saved in my muscle memory since BC.
      I think starting a new mage would result in similar lost memories as I played so much PVP with that char back in the days. I can tell you how to do it right now, but I'm quite sure that if a warrior would charge me my brain would remember how to frost nova + blink without thinking about it at all.

      I’m sad I don’t remember mine off the top of my head. 😢 My Warlock “Dieyoung” was my very first toon in Dec 2004. I leveled her up to her 20s with my boyfriend who introduced me to the game, but he ended up getting busy with work and I didn’t want to level without him, so I ended up making a shaman named “Booyakasha”and he ended up being my main, wherein at lvl 60 I earned rank 14. My bf dumped me during that many months long rough grind because of that time suck (lol I deserved it), so after I got r14, I finally leveled my warlock. And oh man did I _LOVE_ playing that toon! My shaman was definitely fun, but warlocks just had so much more going on for them as a class.
      I know I would definitely recognize her pet names names if I logged in though… All I can remember is that my imp’s name definitely started with a Z too. I was shocked to see that this guy said he didn’t ever play with his fel hunter doggo or succubus or demon - I used them regularly in pvp (man those priests and mages especially would get so pissed with the fel hunter munching off all their bubbles/buffs lol) - the voidwalker and imp was really only used in pve (the VW didn’t do much damage so he would just be ignored), and the imp was easily one-shottable by a player). So I guess this guy must have been on a carebear pve server guy lol.
      I was very happy to recognize the server he mentioned though… Blackrock! That server had been around since vanilla. Even though it is a dead server here, it is cool that it is still around at least. Whenever I watch videos on modern day World of Warcraft, I don’t think my server is still around when the server lists are shown in them, and my server was awesome. 😢 It was Bloodscalp (wicked name too!).

    Oh Geez...
    I myself have startet playing WoW again after 7 Years. I finished near the End of Pandaria.
    It took me a whole week to get back into the game. What I did was going to a "new" Server, creating a new Character to get myself into the Game again and then took a week on my old Main Character to sort Bags & Bank and get new bags. Going through all the Skills and Talents and it was very nostalgic, sad & depressing at times. But I do like the new Look of the Game during the Shadowlands-Squish with Chromie-Time etc.
    It's so weird to be back and yet it feels like home^^ (Like when you go traveling for years and then return home to see if you still got those Jar of Pickles in the Fridge xD) It's really weird to come back after a long time ^^

I played and played until around 2016 - 17, where I essentially had burnt out on the game after doing everything I wanted to do. I had become a pretty good mage player, I was strictly a caster type player because I sucked at melee. I had many good times and some bad times, and I almost always played with my best friend and my brother.
    After almost half a decade of being off the game I recently decided that with the new expansions, stories, lore, art styles, effects, and races, I'll be getting back into it...probably as a caster again because fuck fighting rogues in CQC honestly.

Then my dad and I moved to a private server in cataclysm and I was a draenei paladin and he a draenei Hunter. We were very slow very very slow leveling and I got bored when we finished northrend. Then I moved to Minecraft for a while and after my dad and my sister started playing in a WotLK (I was a draenei mage, my father draenei paladin (tank) and my sister shaman (healer), so i joined them and we stopped at half northrend because my sister started college and she couldnt play so se moved to a TBC server and I knew more of WoW than before so my tauren druid and his belf paladín reached 70 fastly (and some alters). I logged back in recently after 10+ years, only on a lvl 1 alt I had as I wasn't paying sub to see characters above lvl 20. I was expecting to crack a wry smile and be like "oh yea I remember that haha" as I walked around, yet all I felt was deep sadness. The way things looked, the people I used to play with long gone, the silent general chat on a full server, even so much as the screen resolution showing a tiny action bar on the lower side of the screen compared to lower res back in the day all made me realise (again) that it's gone....it's gone for good and you can never get it back...I cherish the memories I had when I was younger and don't regret any of the days I spent 10 hours playing. I've learned in the past with nostalgia you can try to relive things or try to bring them back but even if you manage to bring something back 99% of how it was you will always feel empty and that there is something missing, so for a lot of things it's best to remember fondly but don't try to keep hold of it or bring it back.

    I keep coming back. I still play other games along side of it, but sometiimes I come back to binge for a month or two. Can't even be a kid again, but I can still enjoy the game as an adult!

    It almost feels like everything is new. The level cut on my toons broke my heart a little bit.

    It's so cool watching vids like this. Someone who didn't play in 10 or + years and logging in the first time. So cool.
    Me myself played from 2009 to right around 9.1 or something and just quit the game and started playing FFXIV.
    I have zero hopes for blizz or the game, but if 10.0 is good I'm back baby. I WANT TO play WoW again, the game has just been shit for years now.

      I played from Dec 2004-winter 2008. I think it would hurt too much to see my toons so stripped down if I were to log back in. It killed me just seeing this guy’s hotbar and to see what talent trees have become, etc.. As much as I want to play again - the game is just absolutely ruined these days from what I have seen in videos. So I think I will leave my beloved toons retired. I miss them so very dearly though! I wish I could visit them as they were back in time.

    It's been 84 years, and I can still smell the fresh paint.
