Appetite for destruction
Blowing us all away
Poison looking so damned good
I wondered if I was gay
Whitesnake making us bang our heads
In the still of the frickin night
Coverdale banging Tawnie Kitane
And the world all felt just right
1987 I never wanna leave you
when you told me I was in my prime
Why didn’t I believe you?
And the music scene will never be the same
But I didn’t realize that things could get this Lame
Dokken and Lynch were young and hot
They were warriors in a dream
I couldn’t understand the Loudness dude
But man that guy could scream
Ozzy was on the Crazy Train
biting heads off bats
It was long before the RUclips Trolls
And this bullshit snappy chats
1987 You’re always gonna be the best
Like Fresh Columbian cocaine
Off a 19 year old breast
And the kids these days will never understand
What’s it’s like to play an instrument
And be in a band
Growing out our hair
Gettin high with girls
Cranking Scorpions and Priest
Everyone in leather
There never was a doubt
in any of our minds that pretty soon
Dave and Eddie
were getting back together
1987 where did we go astray?
Back then the friends we had were real
And we saw em every day
And no one once got canceled for the things that they say
1987 will forever be the year
When guys wore more lipstick than girls
And no one seemed to care
And the music that we worshipped will live on
Even after all our heavy metal heroes are gone

"Back then the friends we had were real. And we saw em every day."
Man, that hits hard.
I thought the same thing, killer line
Brillant line, the whole song just reminded me how 1987 was it.... damn I'm old now lol
Yessir, it does.
yea, there's a few more of those "up yours" in there, love it. I'm not even that old yet, late 40s and I already feel I don't belong in this world anymore man. The west seems to be self-destructing faster and faster every year.
I know right?
The only thing better than the 80's is having lived through them. What a gift.
Who cares it’s all relative and subjective
It was a fun time
@@stfu699Not really. Today’s youth live in a rather Puritanical world. Lots of rules.
this is the gayest band ever
Honestly it was kinda a chemically induced blur. Good times.
Holy crap man, makes me wish I could go back to being a kid in the 80s again. This new world we live in sucks. Thanks for keeping the 80s alive Steel Panther!
1 million percent!!
We could make it suck less...
Yeah it does, I'd like to go back to a time when exhaust systems didn't sound like gunfire and the piece of shit cars they're attached to didn't exist.
80’s 90’s and 00’s kept throwing out hit after hit still some decent stuff but not as much thank god for Steel Panther keeping the essence of rock n roll alive
Same
Never thought a Steel Panther song could make me get all teared up with nostalgia... well done and may metal never die 🤘
As Tenacious D have said the Metal will live on 🤘🤘
I cried too😪
Same here! #metoo
This and "The Girl From Oklahoma" get me every time.
Me too...every time.
Being a teen in the 80’s was a gift 🤘🏻
But at the time, it didn't seem like a gift, it just seemed normal?? Fantastic bands, were everywhere! I seen Whitesnake with Mr Big, Poison, Ozzy with Ratt, ACDC with White Lion was my favorite show!
I agree with you, the 80's were truly a gift!!
Have a good night!!
I'd go back in a heartbeat
It was an awesome time to be a teenager.
It was a great time to be alive! Kinda hard to believe how much shit has changed. And not in a good way. At the time, I thought the world would just always be that way. Boy was I wrong.
Truly it was, all the friends, rock bands, even Martika Toy soldier mark my teenage years.
Satchel's a criminally underrated guitarist
and LYRICIST!!!
Ja jestem taka w słońcu
I chodzę ciuszki najsexow niejsze
He was with Halford and badass!!!!
Why no air play best song out damn I miss these times
When did Steel Panther start writing such touching and meaningful lyrics. Absolutely killed it - as usual
They always had been. Death to All but Metal still brings me to tears.
have you not heard Fat Girl or Community Property?
@@ba55bar or Weenie ride?
LOL Now listen to Friends with benefits!
You mean
"If you wanna be like Tiger Woods
Fertilize the ladies in the neighbourhood
Get real rich and you will find
All the hot chicks will want to grind
If you wanna be like Tiger Woods
Grip that shaft like you know you should
Get a platinum card, it will be all good
The girls will want you just like Tiger Woods"
Is not touchy and meaningfull as fuck for you?
I turned 18 in 1987. No internet, no mobile phones, no money but no responsibilities! I'd started to get into hair metal around 86/87 and this song sums the period up brilliantly. it's that good, and that poignant, that it gives me the shivers. reminds of some great times.
Same here
Same, It was a fun time. I got away with a lot of stuff then, but still respectful of others then
This is the greatest rock ballad since 1987 🙌🤟👏
100 percent what I was thinking- this song is awesome.
I was 19 in 1987 and rocking guitar in a band. Everything said in this song is absolute truth. Whitesnake’ s self titled album, Girls Girls Girls, Appetite For Destruction and Hysteria were all released that year--that says it all!
Hey you forgot Crazy Nights! Ha ha. lol.
Ho-ho-hokay boomer
Joe....... , all those bands blow ! Now Scorpions made about 20 some odd LP's . They still are going too ! Some good tunes by them are Speedys coming , Top of The Bill , and We'll..Burn The Sky ! Best band Ever !

Love the ending.. 💖
The very end of this song is so powerful. "Even after all of our heavy metal heroes are gone" Gravity. Well done Steel Panther. This song makes you look past the often absurd lyrics and sends your feels to the next level.
Especially when your personal hero has gone.
Damn, I was 17 years old in 1987... every single word of this songs rings true. There's a lot of things that suck about getting older... but I wouldn't have missed the 80's, not for any-fucking-thing. For a band with so much humour in their music this one genuinely quite moved me. Bless you, you Rock Gods!
I was 23 in 1987, and was just as much fun for me!!! The ‘80s had some of THE BEST rock and roll bands EVER!!!!🎼🎤🎸
Except for the part where Dave and Eddie were getting back together. That didn't happen until around '96, I think.
The 80's had the BEST combination of music that blows todays music away. Every group or individual had their own unique sound and they got that sound without all the gizmos these bands have today. Most of it was 'raw' music. You had the best Top 40, Rock, Metal, Hair Bands, you name it. What's unique and can't be copied is that the music 'SOLD OUT' arenas everywhere worldwide everywhere it went and does so even today when certain bands do a tour. The 80's was just a GREAT time as far as music goes. Oh, I graduated in '85 and was enjoying every damn bit of it. Still do!!!!
Amen brother, Every single word. Keep that spirit forever- Gen X rules!
In 1987 I met my wife at a Bon Jovi concert. We are still happily married and have two grown up sons. What a great year!

This song is AMAZING!! The fact that Steel Panther exists right now is the best consolation prize I could have asked for, for being born in 1989 and missing the 80’s
Couldn't agree more, same case for me! :)

@@Jalamari78 That's a kickass song too.
I’d agree for the most part but I was born in 87

My mum always told me about the 80s, Idk why but it's pretty comforting to me that she had such a fire time.
Now she's mostly depressed, so I got into the older songs to make her happier.
I will show her this song later, bet she'll love it❤️
That's incredibly sweet. I hope it cheered her up 💜
Anytime you ever hear someone say "things were better back then" we know it means compared to how things are today. While it's mostly true, unfortunately you can't go back. That's what makes it so depressing, it's funny I was in such a hurry to get here because I thought it was better, mostly I was wrong. However, a few nights ago I saw SP for the 3rd time, I had 2nd row pit seats which are so much better than where my seats were back in the heyday at other shows. I suppose not everything about today sucks, hope your mom liked the song.

Understandable. These days ARE depressing! Until we forget about the BS and just rock out to all the amazing bands that live in and bring it back!
Unless you lived through the 80's in your "prime" it's hard to explain. I was 17 and getting ready to be a senior. Music and hanging out were KING!! I really do miss those days more than anything. Great song SP!!!
the crazy part is....we never thought it was going to end
In 1987 I was 15, playing guitar, joining bands, this song was my life. I never thought steel panther could bring tears to my eyes but they did.

I think the word ‘loudness’ - line three of the second verse should be capitalized because it’s the name of a band! It seems to refer to Minoru Niihara - Loudness’ lead singer.
Loudness fucking rock btw
Not only is this song fucking incredible and low key made me kind of feel emotional with the lyrics lmao it’s soooo cool to see Michael’s real life son in this video, literally twins 😮😊

Born in 89 and understand every lyric. Glad they finally made a song that wasn’t a parody. I knew they were capable of writing a masterpiece and they sure did
They also made a song called "buying what your selling"
1987 is one year after I graduated high school. The 80's was such a great decade, the best music, women looked so freaking hot. It was amazing!
And only one fatty per classroom. Now they’re full of land Whales
I graduated in Australia in 87!! what a great time in that era!!

I graduated in '87, and I think we all feel the same about the '80s how much we miss them and how great they were
I was "born" 1 year later! Also my wife graduated in the 88' so i feel apart of this group at least by proxy.
I was 16 in 1987. That spring and summer were some of the best days of my life.
That was the BEST decade for music... thanks for keeping it alive, SP!!!
Support this band more than ever. They are keeping the genre alive , they are bringing back the 80s feel while inspiring others to do so . Bring it back the best years were the 80s those that lived it understand. Nothing compares to it . The height of music the height of innovation and new things being released daily was a great time .

80s were a Golden Age for music and culture.
It's like some cosmic beings sent a rays of goodness over the Earth during that period.
I graduated in 1987 from high school. Sure miss better days with much better music and simpler times all around.
I cried listening to this song. The 80's were the best and I had the immense honor of having lived it all intensely. Thank you Michael Starr and Steel Panther for this masterpiece! 1987 forever!
I was born in 1987, but I love hard rock heavy metal.
This song is very special for me, thank you from Japan!!
Steel Panther have just totally vocalised how personally I feel about 1987 and how amazing it was to be a 16 year old metalhead that year! A perfect tribute to an amazing time!
These guys deserves far more credit and exposure, not just for this song but for the rest of their work. Great, great band.
They are brilliant, but you really can't expect widespread acclaim with lyrics like they do. Can't play it on radio, can't play it in decent company. Very niche product.
@@andoletube I agree on the lyrics being over the top. However, probably honest about the times and what actually happened in the 80s

For everyone watching this who misses the hard rock of the 80s, please know that style of music STILL exists and still kicks ass. Check out all the newer bands out of Scandinavia proudly carrying the torch and waving the flag for old school rock N roll. And yes, they sing in English.

Awesome as hell. Like the song says I couldn't understand that Loudness guy, but man that guy could scream 🤘 my dad happened to walk by one day when I was listening to them in my room with door open n said.." darn I bet that guy could shatter glass with his voice"
It all sounds crap, no Riffs
Nope, dude. They ain't genuine, not at all.
Great call Jeff :)
17 in 87. What a decade to be young. Many of us rooted in the thrash metal scene pretended not to like the glam bands but how could you not get those tasty licks stuck in your head? Add the fact that if hooking up with the hot girl meant jamming Poison in your car's cassette deck when your friends weren't around, then that's what you did to seal the deal! G&R was the perfect crossover band at that time that changed the face and sound of the hard rock scene with their FTW attitude and bad boy image. Thank you Steel Panther for taking us all back to a better time when men who wore more eyeliner than their sister could and would actually kick your ass if you insulted them, instead of jumping on social media and crying about it. LLthe80's! LLSteelPanther!
I was 11 in 87, I go into the metal scene through the glam bands because they were on MTV all the time I did grow out of them later. I loved 87 for the awesome music from back in the day and yes G&R was awesome.
It was a fun time. We were lucky we grew into technology. While our kids had it their whole lives.
1987. Had seen 304 concerts, including the original rock, Def Leppard, Van Halen, Ozzy, Whitesnake, and every other 80s band join the Navy, saw the world, and yet through all the years, I’ve lived in music, then you’re still the best of all time. Thanks for the memories Steel Panther.
1987 was THE year. I was 20 and saw all the bands live, I played in a band and was obsessed with metal. I was at the prime of my life and didn't even realize it. I wish I'd taken more photos. I wish I'd known how important it was. Amazing song that says what we all feel.
I turned 21 in '87 , the best days indeed the '80s . My generation didn't think they had celebratory status like the misguided narcist muppets of today . If someone were to be seen taking photos of themselves they would have been ridiculed and exiled . Back then we were gracious and most importantly MODEST . Cheers from downunder 👍
@@rocketrod1444 true. I was 10 in 87. But i do remember the time you were a wierdo if you took a photo of yourself.

87 I was working my first permanent job for 3 years. Bought my first newer car, 84 Cougar, it was great, looked cool, and drove & rode sweet, playing hard rock & metal on my stereo cassette deck, and loving life. I still love that car, I may buy another one just to have it again. 35 years has passed, and it's a damn shame what our society has turned into. Take me back to 87.
A true testament to how awesome the music of that era was (and still is) - Hardly anyone listened to 35 year old music from 1952 in 87, yet here we are 35 years from 87 and a lot of the greats still have a huge following.
You’re absolutely right. 50s music seemed to have all died out in 1987. But here we all are still listening to 80s music 35 years later and it’s not going away.
ummm my parents who were teens in the 80s were only listening to punk,b;ues and 70s music..my mother was obsessed with elvis and my father with pink floyd, deep purple and the clash...soo they considered bands like whitesnake, iron maiden etc to be posers back then
Recording technology had made leaps of progress in that time. Imo It was not until late 70's early 80's that the quality of music production reached levels comparable to today. If you listen to a well produced album from the 80's, It still sounds amazing and just as good quality as what is made nowadays. Often better if you ask me as the loudness war had not turned everything into a wall of sound yet. But in the 80's if you listened to a recording from the 50's it sounded old and dated.
Not only are we still rocking to songs from 87, we have groups making music like it's from 87 (Eclipse, Crazy Lixx, Nestor)
In 35 years time do you think people will be rocking out to beeber or swift or whatever shit music is popular toaday
I can’t quite put to words the awesomeness that is this song…I was 16 years old in 1987…damn, I miss it so much….

This video is so true I graduated in the '80s and everything they sing about is real. It's sad that younger people can't enjoy life near as much as we did back then. Younger people can say what they want we were able to do all the fun things and not go to jail or die from them.
They really made a fantastic song man, they need to make more like this
agreed. They could pull it more towards mainstream if they can write more like this. But some wouldn't want that. Satchel's songwriting and riff power are second to none.
@@Johnny-re9kg I'd love it if they would make a non-obscene album. I love the music, but I feel stupid singing along to the lyrics and I'd love to listen to their music with my young daughter who loves 80s glam like Def Leppard. At present, 1987 and It's a Burden are the only songs I can share with her. Their music is first rate and Mike is a fantastic singer. Oh well, they've chosen their path, I guess. I'm probably just being selfish.
I was 18 in 1987 and just graduated high school. I can relate 100% to this song. I remember waiting in long lines at the record store. Thank God for steel panther, I would never have any new music to listen to and learn the guitar parts to play for my friends. I miss 80's metal so very Much! Ratt. dokken, Cinderella , Tesla, britny fox and so so many more are definitely heros
"No one got cancelled for what they wanted to say"
Beautiful... those were the days, what I wouldn't give to go back.
No kidding.. Back then we only had one Tipper Gore to worry about. Now the world is full of them.
Back when this country had a spine, and balls. I miss those days.
Yeah days without smartphones and social media.
I laughed a lot with the lyrics of your songs in the past, but I never thought you bastards could ever make me cry with a song, but...here it is. Thank you for this, guys!!
I cried too and I'm 60 fucking 5 what an amazing awesome kick ass song
I was in a band in the 80s played all the LA clubs with all the hair bands, and thought we never hit it big, it will always be the best time of my life. SP started as as a great 80s cover band with a great sense of humor but I think it has morfed into much more than that to a lot of people. Rock on boys.
1987. I was 17... This song is what it was like. Thank you 💋
Best song in a long while!! thank you Steel Panther!!!
I graduated in 1987, 17 and having fun. The music will never be as good as it was in the 80's. Thank you Steel Panther for the walk down memory lane.
"...and the music, that we worshipped will live on, even after all our heavy metal heroes will be gone."
That is a very poignant line. Everything dies. And our metal heroes, one day, will, too. I haven't lived through the 80s for even a single second. I was born in '94, when grunge and hip hop dominated the airwaves and metal was finding itself in a tough spot.
But having grown up around 80s music, that my parents listened to and I grew to love, I felt that.
Thank you, Steel Panther.
I was born in 1988 I wish I was around for the 80’s I missed out on some of the best music ever … steel panther are helping me through they should be a lot better known they are amazing
Born in 1994 I grew up with all my dad's hardrock heroes. Back then it was hard for him to get the music he liked since he lived in eastern germany. It must have been the greatest time to be alive and truely the golden years for rockin' hard. I'm still listening to the original 80s vinyl records today...
Greetings from Germany - thank you guys for this masterpiece!
Mech weiter!!!!

I freaking BAWLED. It just hit me.
You are one lucky guy
@@fugginrambo I wished you really knew bro it was def a different time
@@mr.ormrs.greene9737 I was born in 81 and would pay anything to go back in time.
@@fugginrambo me too bro! It was such a magical time it seemed as though you could do almost anything and it would work out. I was born in 69, so I was 13 when you arrived. I bet being from 5 thru 11 it would've left a huge impact on your life too.

From a Norwegian smalltown "girl" (back in the 80's)
LONG LIVE THE 1980s! Loved this song from start to finish. The lyrics are great...yes music then was the best, yes we will NEVER let it die and YES the modern world is lost and confused and most will never understand. Special thanks to you guys for shouting out to Eddy once more you guys, myself and everyone in the chat miss him. 1987 is awesome to me for many reasons, including it was the year Kramer released the Stage Master 1 in Candy Blue; I got mine...Satchel you got yours? :) Lastly that line about our heroes...YOU GUYS are heroes for saying what you say and doing what you do. You gentlemen better be rocking it when you are all older than the Stones are now! Looking forward to Steel Panther summer tour 2050! Keep your claws sharp!
If they are still around and I’m still around I’ll see you at that 2050 tour
1987 Hangin at video game arcades with friends, girls in tight parachute pants and METAL....yeah, pure bliss. Awesome song guys! Thanks for the memories.
Love growing up in the 80s. The best of times.
Class of 1987

I was only a toddler in 1987, much happier to be an adult now when I can experience the magnificence of Steel Panther!
the panther has reached 1 million 🎉views rock on boys 🤘
Watching this video makes me feel gratitude that my father lived in the area of 70s and 80s and passed down such great music as well as my brother who grew up on in the 90s I now have my own band with my brother I wouldn't be playing music if my father and brother weren't musicians or turned me on to such great music
it was a good year
I graduated high school in 1983. The '80's were the best for rock n roll, it hasn't been the same since! Rock on Steel Panther!
Me too:)
@@MikeHarholioStarr What in thee hell happened in the last 40 years??? I feel like I'm living in clown world. GOD give be a reset button I want the 80s back!
Love you steel Panther ❤️...I got tears not gonna lie...
I was 17 in 1987. I was in martial arts 5 times a week, avoiding as much high school as possible. (I later was a college professor for a decade) In 1988 I went to a party that lasted for 3 straight years, then on and off for another decade. The music from the 80's and early 90's was untouchable. I went to 36 rock concerts in a row, partying hard with all of these bands like Poison, Dokken, Ratt, Junkyard, Motley Crue, and drinking a river of booze. Now I work 7 days a week but I'm working for me and for retirement so I can go back to drinking and rocking out any time I want. Some things never get old. May Metal live forever!!
I graduated in 1986 and those were the glory days for sure, the BEST years of my life,I may be old,but I got to see ALL the cool bands🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
