if you watched the first video you'll notice my mumbling and pointless stuttering has got a lot better as well as the mic quality, but I still need to cut down on the uhhs and umms a bit I know
hey man thanks for the tutorial! this one is the best one I have seen so far! you made it quick and to the point! also it was simple and easy to understand! again, thanks!
Cheers mate! I finally got started with all of the FREE software I have had installed on my Debian machine since 2014 or so. LMMS, MUSE, RoseGarden, Hydrogen, Ardour, ZynAddSubFX (and ReNoise, which is the only non-free one). We'll see what happens next.
Thanks!!! Great crash course. perfect for someone who know software and music but is not familiar with audio stuff. You saved me loads of time going through tuts.
i don't think so, i just started playing around with lmms, and i don't seem the have the issue. What is the specs of your pc, cuz i think a mac ia all u need for a beat. and every gamer knows that mac sucks. I guess u could try redownloading.
Was real good, thanks :) Would like to see when you're demonstrating something that you use it live, so that we have a live comparison between two different settings or effects that you might be talking about
+Lunar Blacksmith could you elaborate what you mean? Are you talking about playing live eg using a MIDI instrument, or live experimentation with effects comparing the edited with the original, or what?
How To LMMS Ya. So most you tubers with programs like this (good ones that aren't 12yo) will say "if you turn this knob and push that effect you'll get this sound" so then they do it and you're like 'cool cool', then they'll be like "if you turn it this way and push that button it'll sound like this" and everyone goes 'oh that's cool'. Then just to make sure people can hear the distinct differences, they insert 2 notes using the program's easy ability to just click notes in. 1 of them with the first effect, the 2nd with the last effect, and they'll play it next to each other and say "so this is the difference between the two effects" *que the two sounds* and then everyone watching can go "ooooohhh aweessommmee, now I know how to make this song I want to make" or "now I can make that effect that I never knew I could make before and was any different to the other". In short it's just more concise and informative and only takes a few extra seconds.
Hi Thanx for this Video, I use Sampletude, and GarageBand and have been trying to fathom this thing out now I know the secret Thankyou very much for a very worthwhile tutorial, better than all the rest. Cheers.
The only thing is I would like to know the workflow process. You go over the components, but seeing how you approach them in what order would be useful. So in other words do a really simple project or outline the flow from start to finish after the explanations are done.
This is great, but can you please upload your screencasts in something better than 480p? It's hard to read what's on your screen at this low resolution :-/
Juan Correa Unfortunately, no. If you want to record audio from a physical instrument, your best option is Audacity. However, once you record a sample, you can then use it in LMMS.
If you want to record your keyboard through sounds in LMMS (with MIDI data) then all you'll need is a MIDI to USB cable and enable it in an instrument. Recording audio (your keyboard sounds) from your keyboard using the inbuilt sounds is tricky and LMMS will not do this for you, as far as I'm aware
really good tutorial, thanks! i have one problem: no matter which instrument i choose the sound is about one second delayed and doesnt sound good.. sounds just like a strange electric noise (i tried my laptop's speakers, headphones and portable speakers) do you know what probably went wrong in my case?
+Pokémaniac Guquiz If you want to make a new bassline that will be repeated, click the icon in the beat/bassline window that has a little plus next to the beat/bassline symbol: this will create a different bassline for you to work on. If you want to make a bassline that changes a lot, it might be a good idea to use the song editor and but the instrument track into that instead - there you can copy and paste or vary the notes in each part of the song.

How To LMMS But when I remove an instrument in the bassline editor, it will be removed from both basslines.
you can indeed. There are a few ways to do this, but the easiest is to add files to the 'samples' folder in the lmms folder (found next to the projects folder which is where your files are saved). Make sure your samples/recordings are .wav or .ogg - under my experience mp3s don't work. Refresh the files using the button in the bottom right corner of the 'My Samples' tab and your folder/files should appear. In terms of "hooking up" instruments, MIDI is supported on LMMS, but I'm unsure about any other instrument connections. I would recommend recording your instrument, exporting as a .wav, and using the above method to put it in LMMS. (Note: LMMS refers to locations of files and does not create a copy in each .mmpz file, so make sure you have your samples where you want them before adding them to your project. If you move these files to another location, they will no longer work on that project until you update the location in the AudioFileProcessor track.) Hope this helps! :)
Akil Ase' You can't record your own samples in LMMS, but you can use Audacity for that. Once they're recorded, though, you can definitely add them to LMMS. I have a tutorial on how to match the sample BPM to the project, so that you can use them as loops.
I'm afraid you have to keep the tracks all together in the beat bass line editor. You have to delete individual basslines to remove them and keep the blank tracks if they are used in other beat/basslines
Hi!! How can I install the 1.2 version on Ubuntu? sudo apt-get install lmms install the 1.1.3 version and it has some bugs there are fixed in 1.2 one. =) Thanks! ^_^
Hey, if you're talking about the volume of the track fading in, then here's a good way (of many) to do it: First, make sure you have an Automation Track in your Song Editor. Open the FX mixer and click on the 'Master' channel. Click 'add effect' and select 'Amplifier' (it should be at the top). Open the Amplifier effect by clicking 'controls'. Hold down ctrl and click and drag the 'gain' control to the song area by the automation track. Double click on the bar that appears, which will open the automation editor. Make sure it is set to discrete progression (of the three diagrams at the top, the one with the diagonal lines instead of vertical or curved). Create one point at the beginning set to zero (click near the bottom and drag down) and another point further on set to 1 (half way up). Finally, exit the automation editor to the song editor, and click and drag the edge of the bar until you can see the whole progression. If done correctly, the volume will increase. Hope this helped!
thismakesnosense also I cleared up I wasn't mad at him because mine is different from him so of course I won't be able to use all the features he had dang man your comments make no sense
Wow, great tutorial! this is the easiest to understand tutorial for lmms that I have watched so far. Thanks!
if you watched the first video you'll notice my mumbling and pointless stuttering has got a lot better as well as the mic quality, but I still need to cut down on the uhhs and umms a bit I know
How To LMMS Its okay, your video was very helpful.
+Hawaiipups and kpopvocalists what do you mean by clean instruments?
don't stress it. this was extremely useful! Everyone else just talks and talks and talks but you get straight to the point
can you make a Japanese style video
U're so cute! :) Thx for this amazing Video!
You've done well here. Really quick start. Thanks for giving us your time.

which of these softwares would you say is the best?
Thanks!!! Great crash course. perfect for someone who know software and music but is not familiar with audio stuff. You saved me loads of time going through tuts.
One problem I've been having is that multiple notes at the same time are seriously distorted.
this is my problem, does it mean I need a better soundcard?
or speakers/headphones?

Mess around with the eq on the instrument
download a vst
Try panning and compression
Easy to understand.
You make it look easy! Great tutorial!
Was real good, thanks :)

hey man, how do you get the note notations in the piano roll? Go to 03:14 in the video. I'm talking about the B4 C5 C#5 stuff I see in the roll
Go to Edit>Settings and check "Enable note labels in piano roll" in general settings, then restart lmms. :)
John Onorato this was really helpful! i had the same question about it! :')
Hi Thanx for this Video, I use Sampletude, and GarageBand and have been trying to fathom this thing out now I know the secret Thankyou very much for a very worthwhile tutorial, better than all the rest. Cheers.
Nicely done, mate! Very clear and easy to follow.
How to fix sample track from playing over and over once it is paused in song editor
At 2:13 how did you do that?
The only thing is I would like to know the workflow process. You go over the components, but seeing how you approach them in what order would be useful. So in other words do a really simple project or outline the flow from start to finish after the explanations are done.
how do you do the countdown to start recording it keeps starting right away i want a 4 sec countdown
Nice video, I was getting to know the program but this video have cleared some of the doubts
Congrats my friend.. really great tutorial, thanks a lot!
If I dubble click on the track thing I do not get that piano roll? What am I doing wrong?
Great video! Could you please do one which explains how to hook up a midi controller to LMMS? Thanks
hi! I am currently uploading a video on midi controllers. It'll be live soon!
Where would I get free samples? All my samples from cymatics aren't showing up.
all of my piano notes a long with everything else sound super super distorted and weird, whats wrong
This is great, but can you please upload your screencasts in something better than 480p? It's hard to read what's on your screen at this low resolution :-/
great overview of the basics - thanks
my interface is the other way around (right to left)
is there a way to make it like yours?
Is there a video that follow this one. Would really appreciate the help.
hello when i have two beatbaseline and i change something in one beatbaseline why the same change in beatbaseline two ? :)
I edited a sample with the envelope, how can i export the sample?
Does this software work like GarageBand where you can plug your instrument to the computer?
Juan Correa Unfortunately, no. If you want to record audio from a physical instrument, your best option is Audacity. However, once you record a sample, you can then use it in LMMS.
This might be a stupid question but how do I zoom in in LMMS... all the icons/toolbar is tiny
In general settings there is an option to select ' one instrument track window mode '. making the scene less compact.
bruh, compared to what i was able to make, what you did was amazing (especially in that short amount of time)
lol
I KNOW RIGHT!? Every turorial i hear, they make AMAZING beats while im here trying to put 2 and 2 together
nice fluid demonstration!
So can you add your own voice?? Any autotuned features etc??
Is there a way just to record my Privia keyboard into lmms as it originally is. I just want to record from my keyboard no beats.

is it the attack setting? believe there is a delay setting also
and how can i change that?
I probably missed that part, but what if you want to make basslines that are different from each other?

how do i separate baselines, whenever i get rid of a beat on one, it disappears on the other.

Also check out my video on automation tracks if you want to understand more

Deccy D sometimes your headphones can’t handle the bass or noise of the notes
