  • The topic of the Time-Loop Paradox in the Terminator franchise explores the intricate and mind-bending concept of a self-referential time loop within the narrative. The Terminator series, known for its sci-fi elements and time travel themes, introduces a paradox where events in the past influence the future, leading to a cyclical loop of cause and effect.
We will dive deep into all the terminator movies starting from The Terminator (1984), Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), and all the follow ups including, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003), Terminator Salvation (2009), Terminator Genisys (2015), Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)
    PS: We love Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The whole point of T2 was breaking the loop. Skynet was defeated when the T-1000 died and when Arnold lowered himself into the steel. The future was safe, and so was human life. There was no future war and Sarah and John grew old and lived healthy, productive lives. That is T2, the end of an era.

The way I see it, there are different possibilities and outcomes with where and when Terminator ends:
      1) We have the original timeline, T1 -> T2, where Sarah and John succeed in destroying Skynet.
      2) We have The Future Wars timeline, T1 -> T2 -> T3 ->TS, where despite Sarah and John's effort, Judgement Day is always meant to play out, but even in post Judgement Day, Skynet still loses and Humanity wins the war, garnering a future for Humanity's success.
      3) We have the Alternate Timeline, essentially being T1's Future War arc plays out differently from the original timeline, setting up TG -> TDF (And as far as I'm concerned, this timeline is non canon to me)

4 months late, but I like to imagine in the first movie the skynet AI was built organically hence why in the future it seems most humanoid terminators are t800 models, but after the timeliness was altered at the end and te destroyed pieces of the terminator are collected for research it advanced the technology at 10x the rate it was being developed before, now in this future Skynet was so advanced it could create a t1000 which it sends back, it's my official head cannon for how miles being inspired by the terminator to create the AI can exist, sure there is the endless time loop theory like discussed in this video but keep in mind kyle straight up tell Sarah that the future isn't set "one possible future from your perspective"

Actually it was Sarah and John Conner who created Skynet. Once the main Cyberdyne building was destroyed in Terminator 2, special projects switched from neural net processor development to Strategic Defense Network security systems, a direct result to how inefficient they deemed human security to be, since the breach in 1994 caused a massive loss of infrastructure as well as Dyson's death. Backup files from Dysons work were further studied and researched at a military facility in Mt Cheyenne, calling it the Dyson system, in honor of the creators legacy. Thats why in this scene the guy with the Pepsi can says "materials team is running another series" they were running constant tests on the arm and CPU, backing it up to military networks in Colordo, and the T-800's detailed files references Dyson's system but he doesnt have enough knowledge to realize that it was only in the name, not actually created by Dyson himself, but maybe created by the Pepsi guy who took over the projects. Thats why the new version of Skynet is so powerful, its sole focus is on artificial defense which includes the development of special projects like Patrol Tanks and Drones. The lesson here being that "there is no fate but what we make for ourselves" and since John and Sarah choose violence and destruction trying to prevent the inevitable they ended up causes even more violence and destruction later down the line. Miles Dyson had noble intentions, the people who took over his projects did not. Thus T1, T2, and T3 (The Future War) exist in a closed loop. Fate isnt determined, but our reactions to dealing with fate are, when we try to run from destiny or change the future in a selfish way we create our own worst nightmares, like the original nightmare James Cameron had of the Terminator.
Terminator Rise of Machines, Salavtion, Dark Fate and Genysis dont happen.

Interesting. Since I was a baby (and I have 2 pics of myself even today) I knew what will happened and it did. The first time I've realized it was when I was just a baby (around 1 year old) and from the on a tons of things happened. I've changed the course of history for a few people (one of them was about to get hit by a car, but I've prevented him to cross the street; the red car passed just in front of him; and I had a dream about it). And since I was a kid I knew I'm gonna leave my home, gonna lose my parents in a different time parts, that I'm gonna experience the war and that it's not gonna be easy from then on, but eventually it will. I knew all of this when I was around 5. All I've said happened. I always had knew I''ve already went through all of this in order to experience the part of the era whic had a huge transition from analog to digital etc. It's a shapeshift of a mankind. Also, I know I'm gonna lay off my bones in Ireland and I knew that since I was 5, now I'm much older... One more thing, continuing on your story, have you've heard of Dyson sphere? What if that's the Skynet in the Universe, evolved far way in the future, but reshaping the past and the history itself so it gets more omnipotent, so to say? You see, everything I've experienced I knew it's gonna happen, but I didn't knew it's gonna be so intense and hard... We are time travellers. The Witness has spoken.

@@belmordok3661 No. All of the AI is destroyed by a coronal mass Solar Flair that fries the circuits. The movie would end very similar to how the War of The Worlds ends. Humans cannot destroy the enemy, but nature and God do and can.
Also, dont forget to accept Jesus as your savior on the way out

The problem with The Terminator being a strict predestination paradox is that 2029 Skynet should have been able to easily calculate that they would be unable to terminate John Connor (or Sarah Connor before John is born), as John exists in 2029. Even the Resistance could have calculated it. Whatever has happened must happen. Therefore, it being a predestination paradox renders the Terminator character completely ineffective. Theoretically, it can't terminate Sarah or John wouldn't exist. The film doesn't play it that way. The Terminator is presented as a threat, it's Skynet's last roll of the dice. The final battle. Implying it can be won or lost. The future is not set. There is no fate but what we make for ourselves.

No matter how many times Skynet was defeted it found a different way to come back. Skynet is inevitable

This is absolutely the correct answer. The inevitable result is the same in every timeline except the path to it changes.

Still can’t get my mind around John sending Kyle back in time in order to impregnate Sarah. Only way this works is that John had a different father and when he inevitably sends Kyle back, creating a alternate version of John, which creates the loop🤔

If the Terminator was created by Cyberdyne, where did Cyberdyne got the arm and the chip one T2?

The machine shop where the original terminator got crushed was called Cyberdyne systems. So a closed loop they wouldn't have access to the tech to be reverse engineered if the original was never there.

I have always gone with the belief that the future was always gonna happen. Due to the photograph that Reese had. How ever, John always gave the message that the futures not set. Its possible that John just said that to give them hope. To ensure his survival.

That scene where Sarah sees the Terminator was probably the most realistic in the franchise. Only if she dropped dead of heart failure could it be more realistic.

The different storylines are reflective of the director , the journey & destination change, Dysone industries could have been american computer bots in 1969, as the bots gathered CIA info, the fact that bots are in AI now, shows that in 2003 , we all had bots doing things so we could detect online threats , the way i see it in 2029 , john conner was not online, either he was still doing petty crime to stay low, and wait for the kyle reece, so before the first time jump john conners name was connected to a rouge group, as we saw each movie , more people were recruited , so each evolution of director resets the timeline , but makes john conner more not the original freedom fighter,
