    I think you really did a great job with this, and I think you're spot on in regards to the market for this card. I completely expected only a 10-15% rasterization performance improvement for this card, and I've said before how the 8k claims were more a tech-demo of HDMI 2.1 and DLSS2.0 than a real demo of the 3090's performance itself. Nvidia made a clear shout out to streamers and machinima artists and whatnot during the announcement for a reason. I think the 3090 is squarely aimed at content creators who primarily make content around gaming. They want a GeForce level card with "Ti" performance, but they need the VRAM of a Titan. The 3090 perfectly fills that gap. This is a card for game streamers and other gaming content creators, and in that respect, I think the $1499 price tag is a bargain when you look at the alternatives in the Titan and Quadro lines that have comparable VRAM. For the rest of us, the 3080 is the card to get.

      @@3rd.world.eliteAJ Let's hope they can bring down the latency with DLSS3.0 then. One of the downsides to DLSS is it adds quite a bit to GPU frametime. This leads it to not being great for high refresh-rate scenarios like VR or 240hz monitors.

    • @3rd.world.eliteAJ
      @3rd.world.eliteAJ 3 года назад

      @@matthagge4792 For VR there's VRSS, and if you have a 240Hz monitor, you should have one that has G-Sync, especially with a 3070-3080 budget, which mitigates jumps in frametimes. From what I can tell DLSS only adds a few ms in frametimes which nobody can notice, it becomes a problem when frametimes aren't stable - which they are.
      Also, Nvidia Reflex should be implemented soon, so even using in combination with DLSS we'd see lower latency than with both off.

      @GordonGEICO 3 года назад +1

      @@deandudek3921 SLI links the cards together so they can work on/with the same resources. This is a necessity for games.
      Production workloads (eg, video rendering) can be divided such that one frame doesn't rely on another, and, unlike gaming, you can render frames generally in any order. In a multi-GPU scenario, there doesn't need to be any link between the GPUs to do the work. For instance, you could send frames 1-50 to one GPU and frames 51-100 to the other GPU and not really have to care which one got finished first (or even what order they processed the frames, depending on key/i/b/etc. frames).
      Long story short, not all workloads require that the GPUs be linked together (or even be the same type of GPU).

    This is a critical point. Some applications can only use the memory of a single card even when two are installed so suggesting two 3080s are better vaue is massively misleading.

    This is no surprise. Both of them are normally priced. One might actually get angry at the marketing and pricing scheme of such a card, but they should never forget, that premium performance comes always at higher prices. I always compare this with the bicycle market. You can buy a lightweight carbon road bike for 3.000€ but you can also buy a 5.000€ Lightweight bike. The problem is: the more you pay the narrower the gap between performance will be. Back then 1060 for 250€ and 1070 for 430€. 1070 wasn´t particularly double the performance in comparison to 1060, but it was almost double the price. People shouldn´t be dreaming of Nvidia being a Stakeholder company. It's an American company and therefore Shareholder principles are normal.
