OHMYGOD HEY!
It was recently announced that Andrew Lloyd Webber's newest musical Cinderella, which was recently seen at London's Gillian Lynne Theatre, would open on Broadway in February 2023 with a new title - BAD CINDERELLA.
Joining the previously announced Linedy Genao will be Carolee Carmello, Jordan Dobson, Grace McLean, Christina Acosta Robinson, Sami Gayle, Morgan Higgins and more!
Check out today's new video for my potentially surprising reaction to the Bad Cinderella casting...

The way you said "Love Never Dies" said everything there is to say about that show
Luckily we weren’t travelling / on holiday this time when the news came out - just very busy! 😂🙈
Same here
truetrue
The absolute plot twist of Mickey Jo getting excited about Bad Cinderella. It's up there with the 6th Sense, The Usual Suspects, Planet of the Apes...
I am so conflicted about this production. These new casting choices are fantastic, but I feel like I can't support the show because of how mistreated the West End cast were.
Side note: I still think it's hysterical that the un in unconventional is meant to look like it's sprayed on, but the n in an is not, meaning that before it was sprayed on the tagline would have been "an conventional fairytale" 😂😂😂😂😂
I'm actually really excited for Grace Mclean in this because her vocals in Great Comet were really cool (just listen to In My House and Call to Pierre), which I hope are brought into the Queen's part. In that, she filled between being a warm mentor/mother figure to *anger* I love and I think will be similar to the Queen (If the writing in the show is ever fixed)
Ikr???? I saw she was there and I was like... GRACE MCLEAN????? SHE WAS BORN FOR THIS SHOW!!!!
They better not fuck it up and if they do I greatly hope Grace channels her inner Marya D and fights them
She was also the queen of hearts in Alice by heart!!! She was PHENOMENAL in that, I love her in this type
At this point I think you need to see it on broadway it’ll be the full circle moment 😂
I’m losing my mind rn over the actresses playing the Step Mother and the Queen. My two comfort cast albums of 2022 were Alice By Heart and Tuck Everlasting. Carolee Carmelo was Mea in Tuck Everlasting and Grace McLean was The Queen of Hearts in Alice by Heart. I officially have faith in this production I think!
I adore Alice By Heart!! I broke my leg in February of 2020 and ended up in a rehab facility. Then the pandemic hit and my family couldn’t visit me. Alice By Heart got me through the tough times.
I loved Carolee Carmello on the Jekyll and Hyde album with Anthony Warlow. Her voice was so warm.
So so sooo excited to see Grace McLean back on broadway, she is an absolute POWERHOUSE
"they used a rat emoji...because they're down with the kids"
HAHAHAHAHAHA I DIED
I assumed that ‘the hunk’ with the talking line is actually Prince Charming but they didn’t want to spoil the fact
Jordon Dobson went to my university! So cool seeing fellow Temple grads making MOVES 🦉 🍒
Mickey Jo's obsession with The Real Housewives is the protagonist of this video 🤣
Appreciate the unintentional SIX/Aragon bit... "Okay... Sure..."
I just can't wrap my head around the marketing department in charge of (Bad) Cinderella; they have changed the aesthetics up so many times now, that I fear that the show won't appeal to anyone in the end. UNLESS... They are implementating more RHO into the production, then it would definitely combine and make sense. So long it doesn't go down a satire like road.
Stay safe in the insane snowy weather you're having over there, Mickey and Aeron!
‘Sorry, I wanted a bounty’ made me cackle haha
THANK YOU! I also cannot understand why people think pink and red go together ever 😂.
I might have to book a ticket now just because of the cast. I still think this will flop badly on Broadway. I cannot even imagine how harsh Jesse Green of NYT will be when he reviews this show. This probably won't make it to awards season and ALW's streak of having a show on Broadway will FINALLY be over!
This was fun! You should come across the pond to see the show when it opens if you can. I feel like you are the resident ALW Cinderella expert, so it makes sense you should come see it over here.
Curious as to your thoughts on the English-language version of Rebecca opening next year in London - I just heard about that and I am beyond excited!
The cast won’t be the problem, as we all know
The music is brillant so what's the problem
I'm very curious about this show. I must say I prefer the London cast recording version of Bad Cinderella, but nevertheless, I'm still waiting for the Broadway cast recording to hopefully come out. I wonder what changes they're going to make regarding costumes, the music, and overall the plot of the show.
The most controversial thing about this video is you actually enjoying a Bounty lmao
Great video, thanks for keeping us abreast of all these goings on!
I saw Jordan Dobson when he went on as Tony in the most recent revival of West Side Story,. He is wonderful.
Wow! The promo video looks good. I am very intrigued to see this😀
I think Carolee Carmello was a huge “get” in terms of getting the the NYC “theatre” people on board - myself included!
I completely agrre with you. The crazy thing is, I saw an interview with Carolee where she said she auditioned 5 times for the role, and then they gave it someone else who couldn't do it before she got it.
@@gometome Not for Bad Cinderella it was for 1776 .
@@OliviaNguyen95 Oh really? Where did you hear that? I can't find the insta live where she talked about it so I could be wrong.
@@gometome It’s saved on Tim’s Instagram .. Tim was the one who did the live with her !!
@@OliviaNguyen95 do you have the username? I don't actually know who Tim is lol. I just stumbled on the live and lost it right after!
I find this marketing confusing. I think if they changed the show up completely to be more like the real housewives, it could be interesting. but I think if someone sees this that knows nothing about the show and it's closer to the west end production that they will be sorely disappointed. So in that case, I think your point about doing this in their costumes would be a better idea. I dunno. I don't think I can get past the way the original cast has been treated to fully enjoy it. but I'll give the new soundtrack a listen when it comes out.
I haven't seen much of carolee carmello or grace mclean, but I love grace in great comet and I know carolee from the 1994 Jekyll and Hyde concept album. I'd been thinking how interesting it was that grace wasn't the stepmother, and now your surprise over carolee being the stepmother and not the queen? Very interesting to me
MickeyJo vlog from NYC…yes….will look forward to it
We don't need another Cinderella on broadway the Rogers and Hamerstine one and the one adaptation from Even After is enough Cinderella we don't need Webbers version, just like we didn't need him to try and fix Wizard of Oz, I don't trust him to treat his NYC cast well after what he did with the London cast, I just think New York needs to kick him out till he's learned his lesson.
I saw the poster for “Bad Cinderella” in NYC, and it looked so tacky and outdated. Hopefully, this will be the end of Andrew Lloyd Webber. Apart from “Phantom of the Oprah”, most of his musicals lack any artistry. The rock opera is so 80s, and needs to finally die. Completely agree that Broadway does not need another “Cinderella”. Rogers & Hammerstein were superior composers to Webber.
Sami Gayle was in Blue Bloods for years (she possibly still guest stars) she played Tom Selleck’s granddaughter. Her mother is played by the actress who was Big’s wife Natasha in Sex and the City.
This marketing seems super confused to me. At whom are they aiming? It's obviously not kids or even teens. Are adults really going to just open their wallets because it's ALW? This won't see a long run.
It's not for adults either. The majority of adults born in the 90s throughout the early 2000s never watched the Real Housewives (most don't even know what that show is). I know I certainly didn't. If it wasn't for Mickey, I wouldn't even have known they were parodying the Housewives (now I understand why the line delivery seemed like they were reading cue cards). I'm not sure if this was the best choice of advertisement.
I’m an adult born in the ‘50s, and my rule is See all the musicals. I would see it with the London cast, but I won’t go to NYC to see it. I’m guessing it won’t go on tour, but I could be wrong. Oh, and I don’t watch the housewives!
@user-qi9w1ft7 Ha. I was thinking the same thing! I thought isn't the "Real" franchise thing over? But then I thought maybe it's back and I'm just unaware. Maybe they think older women will want to see this?? That seems very at odds with the content of the show, IMO. This just gets weirder and weirder.
@NiaMeg Oh man, you are truly lucky to have a "see all the musicals" budget -- I envy you. I don't think a lot of theater goers in the US are in that position. Some are obviously, but I doubt there are enough to keep the seats full for very long.
I think the marketing is just trying to help the show stand out by making it look as weird as humanly possible (which it kind of already was).
In terms of audience, the only people I would see enjoying this would be the same people who liked "Diana" (whether it be genuine fans who enjoyed all of the sassy kitsch of the material, or people like me who came to love the show for how laughably stupid it was).
Either way, I am extremely curious to see what the hell this show becomes when it comes to New York in February.
Mickey!! If you got to New York, PLEASE see Kimberly Akimbo. One of my favorite musicals ever. It's absolutely lovely
I saw Jordan Dobson in Hadestown and he was phenomenal, so he's definitely something to look forward to even if he is too good looking
Omg would lovee some MickeyJo broadway content!!
Will miss Ivano Turco, who absolutely blew me away. Looking forward to Jordan's take though! I agree with you that I would've expected Carolee as the Queen, and Grace seems a more natural fit for the stepmother.
I Hope ivano will be cast as mj in MJ the musical
I can’t wait to watch Bad Cinderella on Broadway! I for one am rooting for it instead of hoping for its demise like some people.
With how appallingly ALW treated the West End cast, I hope the Broadway version and does not make that man any money
Still looks like a Sears catalog ad...wish they had jumped for more body diversity, but here we are.
LOL 100% accurate. Whole thing reeks of early 2000s in a bad way! I can't see this appealing to anyone looking to spend $$$$ on a new Broadway show?
i paused the video to see the winner takes it all bootleg and oh my god she is AMAZING!
I bet they want to do "celebrity" Prince Charmings. That seems up their alley. So they may change a few times during the run as they find new stars to be in it, maybe that's why they didn't announce it?
God if I thought you reminded me of Mikes Mic before… Housewives obsession clinched it. 😂
I love when I find a fellow musical/housewives fan!!!!
Oh no, Mickey Jo, we’re here again at (Bad) Cinderella… how are you doing, king?
Maybe I'm just old...or such a HUGE CHF stan...but I hate it. I think ALW's behavior has ruined everything about him and his work for me. 😔💔
That being said...I adore you Mickey Jo. 💕
Thanks!
I looked up a video of her and she said "Hi My Name Is Lynn-Ady Hen-ow"
I'm not so sure about this cast i love the west end cast so much
Let’s do a Mickey Jo meet up when you come over to see the show!
OMG YES ♥️♥️♥️
18:21 i'm not surprised by that i Saw promising young woman directed and written by emerald fennell and it was the same
I wonder what changes if any the may make to the godmother, because people were also mixed on her not really having any supernatural powers. They could maybe do a bit of both, a supernatural individual who is hiding behind the facade of a cosmetic surgeon maybe ?
It's so weird bc emerald fennell is Still credited as the book writer of the show
Why is that weird? She wrote the variation of the storyline
I am only familiar with the Real Housewives through their lawsuits, but I am deeply invested in whether Erika Jayne’s earrings were real (she claimed they were worth $1.3M but were sold through the bankruptcy auction for only $250K 😱) and am eagerly awaiting Jen Shah’s sentencing for wire fraud. Emily D Baker is a lawyer and RUclips creator who is a huge Housewives fan and covers all manor of pop culture lawsuits. She recently went to Bravocon and I was living for all her reactions, even though I’ve never seen an actual Housewives episode 😂
As for the actual topic of today’s video, I am most excited for Grace McLean - I loved her in Great Comet and In the Green, and she just has such a unique voice. Thanks so much for this video!
I think the biggest controversy here is wanting a Bounty.
I think you have to go and see it if there is any way you can!
I saw Carollee in Hello Dolly a week before the pandemic started. She’s absolutely hilarious and will slay this!
she was fantastic in Sweeney Todd
She is going to be amazing
Still curious about the changes they've made. If they cut "Man's Man" I'm not going.
You know, as someone who really finds the Real Housewives franchise annoying... this really didn't make me have any warmer feelings for this new production. 😬 It just felt very... cringe. Very desperate. But hey, if it works, then I'm just not the demographic and that's ok! I have very little faith in this production, but I'd love for it to not be a flop.
I also think that the change in color scheme bugs me the most and I didn't like the originally pallete! The red and pink just seems like such a weird combination.
I don’t know how to explain this but it’s very Lilly Singh core
How could you have forgotten "Steven Ward"??? LOL. Everyone else has too.
Stephen Ward your (pause) friendly osteopath!
I can just hear The Woman in White quietly sobbing in her little corner.
WHERE IS the baker
I highly recommend you to watch The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip 2 in the Berkshires, it was hilarious.
I simply want to go just for Grace McLean
Plz can we have a matilda video this week
I really think we'd be great friends! I love Broadway and Real Housewives and also Below Deck. not sure if you watch that.
I can promise you that no one here in the US is excited about seeing this musical lol
the only viral moments this production has on TikTok are the cringe announcement and the embarrassingly bad performance on the Today Show. soooo lol good luck 🤞
Very fun video! I know nothing about the real housewives but this was great
It's lih-nay-dee heh-now, I believe.
Just saw Carolee Carmello in 1776, and that’s mother!
One possible route to fix this show would be to make it a _laugh riot_ instead of a sweeping ALW musical.
The g sound that sounds like a j as in jam or g as in gem 💎 doesn't exist in Spanish. It either as a g sound as in go or a h in ohmygod HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY! (I couldn't resist).
Hence, genao would be said like he- now but with a short e as in entertainment since the g is not squished between an r or an l.
I'm pretty sure it's pronounced Lin-Ed-E Gen-Ay-O
What makes Cinderella so bad? Is it because she spray paints a statue and just has a negative attitude? Does she overthrow a government, kick anyone’s butt, or throw acid in someone’s face? Why is the “bad” designation relevant?
OMG MJT in NYC!!! Bring a lot of money lol, esp with the rubbish pound-dollar lol
I love your videos! I just thought I'd let you know that Andrew's official title is Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber. and obviously Cameron is Sir Cameron Mackintosh. As I said I love all your videos; it’s great to see such an enthusiastic approach to all things theatre.
I just love you watch Real Housewives HAHAAH Queen is 100% LVP wanna be
Oh COMPLETELY!
"pink and red don't go together" tell that to saint valentine and every tacky barbie girl lesbian on the planet SIR!!
"Andrew Lloyd Webber's Bad Cinderella" - yeah, because he wrote it all by himself
First!
Broadway does not need another “Cinderella”. Especially, a tacky one from Andrew Lloyd Webber. All he knows how to compose are rock operas, and it is an outdated concept for musical theater. Sorry, but the American composers are superior to Webber.
he seems FOINE!
Can we please get rid of I know you?
NOOOOOO
I hate the girl playing Cinderella she has nothing on Carrie hope fletcher
PROMO = CHEAP & CHEESY = just like ALW
OMG NO - give me a barf bag.
Just saw Carolee Carmello in 1776, and that’s mother!
