The moral of the traditional Cinderella story is remaining kind and hopeful will ultimately lead to good things. Hearing what this musical does with the title character where she essentially insults someone who every believes to have died and then saying that she doesn’t care that everyone calls her a “wretch or a witch” and even seems to indulge in that idea just seems like a middle finger to what the original story was all about!!!
re: no rapping cats used to run with a rap version of rum tum tuggers song to stay "hip" 💀 he got a matching wardrobe change complete with chunky chain necklaces and everything (it did not last long lol)
Musical Proshots are still not that common in the UK but non musical plays have been ahead of the game for years over hear including event where every cinema either livestreams or more commonly plays an unrealised pro shot simultaneously. After a while they go onto a dedicated streaming services that have over a decade of HD backlog
Those events happen in the US also, mostly with plays and operas. It’s musicals that rarely get them, because it’s significantly more expensive in the US to film pro shots, due to unions and equity.
there is a terrible book series im making a vid about (this is not my main) called the uglies and it’s very similar where everyone gets plastic surgery but it’s a middle grade or ya dystopian so it’s definitely a little different
@@hazelsingh3887 i was thinking the same thing?! out of all the dystopia why uglies tho (no offense if you like them they used to be my favorite books)
Honestly the idea that plastic surgery is a Bad Thing that only Very Vain People do is… well, it’s never been accurate. The earliest plastic surgeries in the 20th century were to help WWI veterans who came home from war with horrible injuries, and expanded into gender affirming procedures in subsequent decades. There are a zillion reasons for people to get plastic surgery other than “I want to conform to a very specific beauty standard”.
After knowing that ALW's son had cancer and recently passed, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt when he didn't visit the show's last day on the West End. Maybe he was with his son?
i feel like they could have easily had actual conflict by making the fairy godmother be secretly getting people addicted to plastic surgery, like it already feels set up by cinderella getting work done and IMMEDIATELY being like "wow this is so cool actually". or maybe i've watched repo the genetic opera too much
The fact that the town calls her Bad Cinderella pisses me off SO much because Cinderella on its own is a derogatory nickname!!! "That poor ugly loser who is always covered in dirt is kind of mean! Let's call her Bad poor dirty ugly loser!"
“Hi it’s me Cinderella I know I look different” to the tune of the title song got me so good. Almost done with the video but you have got my sub! Well done.
Bad Cinderella feels like one of those cash grab YA bestseller novels that have the same plot from the early 2010s with the "I'm Not Like Other Girls" protag.
so happy to stumble upon this video!! me and my mum went to see the show twice while it was in london, one of those being closing night. that letter from alw was INSANE to witness in person. i vividly remember the whole crowd booing a couple times at least, the upset from the audience was palpable, and the cast members reactions were just so sad to see. i genuinely wish all the staff involved in both productions all the best, and thank you for covering it 💜
I was in NYC watching some Broadway shows just last week and my mom pointed to Bad Cinderella to ask if I wanted to go see that. I laughed and was like "not even remotely". I really didn't know much about it, but what little I knew told me it would be horrible. And honestly, what is with all the terrible, uninspired Cinderella remakes lately? Leave her story alone for awhile. Cause this is clearly not working. But on a positive note, this video is amazing! Loving the paper dolls.
Imagine if like a full stanza into the sad ballad about my prince got married and im sad the prince walked in and the song just ended. That would be like the only genuinely funny bit in the whole fucking show
All I can say is when I saw it last month, watching it I was just...baffled... the whole time felt like a strange fever dream, every time i felt like i got a grasp on where the show was going, i would get hit in the face with slang, characters or line deliveries that would confuse me all over again.

Honestly I wish the prince was the main character and Cinderella was the love interest that he liked because she was different. I felt bad for the prince, not so much Cinderella. Plus his voice is amazing
I honestly wish the prince's brother was a main focus. The 'faking his death because of the heteronormativity of the royal family' plot would be done amazing if it wasn't attached to Bad Cinderella. That could be a musical of its own!

The most unbelievable part about all this is that they have an actual conversation and communicate enough for everyone to understand what's happening, no miscommunication, no misunderstanding. I don't believe this. Unrealistic. I want my money back. A couple, *communicating*????
"How dare you get sexually assaulted I will now angst about how you don't love me and refuse to communicate" has got to one of my least favorite tropes of all time
I’m convinced ALW either owed someone money and/or was contractually obligated to pump this show out. No way do I believe that he thought this was gonna be his swan song.
It was a good idea, just done *really* badly. If it was written/made by other people, it could've been incredible. It failed as soon as they decided surgery should be a part of the lore. They could've made it about how beauty is superficial because everyone views attractiveness differently and that beauty should be about who you are, not how you look. But they did this
It's too bad the reboot of _The Nanny_ hasn't happened yet because the saga of this show would've been free material for it to riff on, considering Mr. Sheffield's long-standing beef with ALW lol

Hearing what this musical does with the title character where she essentially insults someone who every believes to have died and then saying that she doesn’t care that everyone calls her a “wretch or a witch” and even seems to indulge in that idea just seems like a middle finger to what the original story was all about!!!
Making a traditional underdog character abrasive and unlikeable is… you’re not really doing the vibe of your show any favors, Lord Andy.
i will throw you into a bouncy castle i love you this is exactly what i am saying
I prefer the paper doll show, (even your singing) to seeing bootleg filmed scenes from the actual show!! I'm so here for it!! GREAT JOB😉
re: no rapping
cats used to run with a rap version of rum tum tuggers song to stay "hip" 💀 he got a matching wardrobe change complete with chunky chain necklaces and everything (it did not last long lol)
It’s musicals that rarely get them, because it’s significantly more expensive in the US to film pro shots, due to unions and equity.
there is a terrible book series im making a vid about (this is not my main) called the uglies and it’s very similar where everyone gets plastic surgery but it’s a middle grade or ya dystopian so it’s definitely a little different
that’s literally what I was thinking, like did the musical rip off the series?
@@hazelsingh3887 i was thinking the same thing?! out of all the dystopia why uglies tho (no offense if you like them they used to be my favorite books)
honestly, from the description of the play, the Uglies series does way more interesting things with the world-building, at least
@@magpieroost so true like the uglies world is not the worst for ya
Honestly the idea that plastic surgery is a Bad Thing that only Very Vain People do is… well, it’s never been accurate. The earliest plastic surgeries in the 20th century were to help WWI veterans who came home from war with horrible injuries, and expanded into gender affirming procedures in subsequent decades. There are a zillion reasons for people to get plastic surgery other than “I want to conform to a very specific beauty standard”.
Not even really into musical theatre like that, but I love these videos. Waiting for you to blow up in the commentary community 🤘
After knowing that ALW's son had cancer and recently passed, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt when he didn't visit the show's last day on the West End. Maybe he was with his son?
The puppet retelling was genuinely so entertaining I’m glad you didn’t use actual footage! All of their little poses and outfits were A+!!
i need more musicals remade with card cut outs, it’s so funny 😂😂
i feel like they could have easily had actual conflict by making the fairy godmother be secretly getting people addicted to plastic surgery, like it already feels set up by cinderella getting work done and IMMEDIATELY being like "wow this is so cool actually". or maybe i've watched repo the genetic opera too much
i have absolutely no interest in this musical but i cannot stop watching as much media about it as possible, ty for your contribution
The fact that the town calls her Bad Cinderella pisses me off SO much because Cinderella on its own is a derogatory nickname!!!
"That poor ugly loser who is always covered in dirt is kind of mean! Let's call her Bad poor dirty ugly loser!"
She was a bad girl, she did some bad things... And yes this indeed was one of the musicals of all time.
I would 100% watch that Camelot adaptation where they can only eat crunchywrap supremes.
“Hi it’s me Cinderella I know I look different” to the tune of the title song got me so good. Almost done with the video but you have got my sub! Well done.
I’m bad Cinderella, I’m sad Cinderella, and sometimes I can be mad Cinderella
Bad Cinderella feels like one of those cash grab YA bestseller novels that have the same plot from the early 2010s with the "I'm Not Like Other Girls" protag.
i was hoping and praying and sacrificed my firstborn so you would make a video on Bad Cinderella
the ritual is complete
ALW made Carrie Hope Fletcher cry! Boo this man!
so happy to stumble upon this video!! me and my mum went to see the show twice while it was in london, one of those being closing night. that letter from alw was INSANE to witness in person. i vividly remember the whole crowd booing a couple times at least, the upset from the audience was palpable, and the cast members reactions were just so sad to see. i genuinely wish all the staff involved in both productions all the best, and thank you for covering it 💜
I love the use of puppets to portray the show! I’ve seen one other influencer also do that and I think it’s genius, I eat it up every time lmao
That would be like the only genuinely funny bit in the whole fucking show
All I can say is when I saw it last month, watching it I was just...baffled... the whole time felt like a strange fever dream, every time i felt like i got a grasp on where the show was going, i would get hit in the face with slang, characters or line deliveries that would confuse me all over again.
dude I found your channel months ago and i am obsessed with your humor. you have very much drew gooden vibes I think that’s why I like you so much, I can’t wait to see you grow a bigger audience
it took me way too long to realize the orchid is made of lego
mmm... Drew Gooden also bleached hir hair recently. Dude what's going on.
I KNOW i saw he did it like a day or two after me i was in shock
tysm to draco malfoy for this video
"hi it's me cin-der-el-la, i know i look diff-rent"
i know its a fairy tale but the plots that can be solved with a conversation are so frustrating!
when I watch your videos I feel the same way I did watching Chad Chad right when she started and she was at like 30-40k subs. Proud to say I was here before you hit 100k (and prob 1mil one day)
DUDE I feel the same
Those cut outs were actually great! An artist AND a RUclipsr?! What’s next a great singing voice?? Oh wait!
Thank you Johnny Reviewer, for taking that time out of your day to be ableist. Why are theater kids
“It has multiple personality disorder” do not compare me to bad fucking cinderella sir
I think the problem here is less that Johnny is a theater kid and more that he works for the NY Post.
Now I wonder; what was the plot in the UK version? I'm so curious to know, because even watching the Carrie Hope version it feels a little better, or could it be that Carrie is that charismatic
OK, you have earned yourself a subscriber, from one theatre professional (marketing) to another. You're the kinda dude I would love to get coffee with and talk shop if we lived in the same city. Hope this blows up as much as your Diana vid did!
Honestly this is the best and most entertaining theater commentary I’ve ever watched! It was funny and told the full story of the show! Thank you!
I had heard of this musical but I genuinely thought that "bad" was a descriptor youtubers were using I didnt realize it was the actual title
This is as rewatchable as a Jenny Nicholson video. This is my fourth time through. Kudos!
I love these videos, the musical theater commentary we deserve
yyyyeah... "Cinderella magic except it's plastic surgery" absolutely should have stayed in the drafts. wtf is going on
I saw Bad Cinderella in previews and somehow your review made it sounds better than watching it actually was.
this is my first time ever commenting on a youtube video bc i just had to let you know i love how much you enjoyed making the paper cutouts and i did backstage musicals in high school and was so grateful that Hamilton brought theater to the forefront of media and i appreciate you covering musicals on your channel! never change pony boy
He totally thinks people should like it if he says so; he is really out of touch to say the least.
He is rich. That explains it.
It was a good idea, just done *really* badly. If it was written/made by other people, it could've been incredible. It failed as soon as they decided surgery should be a part of the lore. They could've made it about how beauty is superficial because everyone views attractiveness differently and that beauty should be about who you are, not how you look. But they did this
Your paper doll actors are delightful.
It's too bad the reboot of _The Nanny_ hasn't happened yet because the saga of this show would've been free material for it to riff on, considering Mr. Sheffield's long-standing beef with ALW lol
I’ve already watched like an hour long bad Cinderella video from another creator I like but I can’t get enough bad Cinderella content
Ashley Norton also did a little paper doll thing in her Bad Cinderella video. I wish more people did this. It's hilarious.
love that I get to come home from a rehearsal for a fun and cute ALW production (School of Rock) to see you posted a video about a bad (ha) ALW production. poetry
I do not have the chance to watch musical very often but I do enjoy them, so seeing you go over more of them is great! While I have comments about bad cinderella I enjoyed your video and am happy it was brought to my attention lol
also I'm not rly into theater but I love these videos from you bc you obviously care so much about musical theater and it rly comes through and I feel like I learn a bit about the production side of things while watching but am also so thoroughly entertained because you're just fucking hilarious, so keep up the great work I guess lol I love it no notes xx
Andrew Lloyd Webber making a DJ Remix of Phantom of the Opera is not something I wanted to see today...or ever.
i thought you were like three different commentary youtubers when i saw this video in my recommended. but great video! absolutely loved it!
my cat really enjoyed the paper doll theatre you put on
i swear on my life that the guy who plays prince charming (cameron loyal) was in my old martial arts class (it was taekwondo)
Your new hair looks really adorable!! And I'd love to see you make more videos about musicals in general, even musicals that you love!
don't think I didn't catch the middleditch and schwartz ref
love this expansion of the harry j miller cinematic universe in which we learn you have puppeteering skills
I regret to inform you that ALW did indeed change a song in Cats to be a rap song when the West End production got revived in 2016 (although thankfully it was so bad that there was no way for him to justify keeping it, and it got changed back).
...which one?
@@Eloraurora Rum Tum Tugger 😬
@@ASmidgeOfPidge Yikes.
Your popsicle stuck production is the proshot i need to fully embrace this show
somehow you have topped all your other videos with this one LMFAOOO this is perfection
cinderella is already a mean nickname 😭💀
at 24:24 when you sang 'holy shit Cinderella' I actually cackled I will be using '(blank blank) Cinderella' in real life all the time now
