When she's at the castle she's looking away from him. While this Cinderella goes out of her way to go to the ball to meet the man she already likes. While putting down any woman she comes in contact with.

An nlog, to my understanding, is a woman who performatively proclaims and/or performs their separation from and superiority to other women and traditionally "female interests" for male vaildation. And idk? Is she doing that?
Ig you can feel any typa way about her, I dont really care, but I also think we should be more considerate when using these terms. I think things like detail about plus-sized citizens could work, if they made an effort to cast Sebastian and Cinderella to be conventionally unattractive in some way. That way the theme wouldn't be entirely superficial. As it stands its feels like a pretty awkward gesture towards a much more nuanced topic (real world beauty standards, body shaming etc.) in a show that otherwise exists in entirely in simplistic hollywood logic.

I saw ALW's Cinderella here in London, and I really enjoyed it. I remember thinking "oh my gosh I actually enjoy something Andrew Lloyd Webber for once." It was campy, and ridiculous, but like it knew what it was about, and I think succeeded in a lot of ways. Obviously there were things to fix, but it's remarkable how instead of like ironing out the creases, they just put in so many worse creases. For instance, on the West End the statue was spray painted tons of different colors, so it was mega vandalized, Cinderella's costume was substantially different than everyone else's, so she stood out, and also to your note about size inclusivity, the Cinderella and the main alternate were both pus sized actresses. Also, I don't know if this was removed or if it just wasn't mentioned in this video (the wiki page for this show doesn't talk about what the script changes were, just that there were changes) but it seems like the whole plot point of why the wedding is happening at all was removed, that it was because Prince Charming was supposed to get married on that day, and they already had the wedding planned, so to get better town PR the queen decided Sebastian was gonna get married. Which like gives more reason for him randomly showing up at the end. Anyways, it's been something my friends and I have talked about how they changed the name to Bad Cinderella, and as everyone has said, literally just made it very very bad. Also based off the clips, it is so weird to me how the directors who directed the West End version also directed this version, because it seems completely different in tone. I'm just baffled on this whole show, and ALW really dropped the ball on something that could have been really good, but at the same time I ask myself, should I be surprised? ANYWAYS! Sorry for such a long comment, I loved this video, and I look forward to more videos of yours about theatre! As a theatre person myself, I'm loving this type of content, and you're crushing it.

Hearing what this musical does with the title character where she essentially insults someone who every believes to have died and then saying that she doesn’t care that everyone calls her a “wretch or a witch” and even seems to indulge in that idea just seems like a middle finger to what the original story was all about!!!

i feel like they could have easily had actual conflict by making the fairy godmother be secretly getting people addicted to plastic surgery, like it already feels set up by cinderella getting work done and IMMEDIATELY being like "wow this is so cool actually". or maybe i've watched repo the genetic opera too much

so happy to stumble upon this video!! me and my mum went to see the show twice while it was in london, one of those being closing night. that letter from alw was INSANE to witness in person. i vividly remember the whole crowd booing a couple times at least, the upset from the audience was palpable, and the cast members reactions were just so sad to see. i genuinely wish all the staff involved in both productions all the best, and thank you for covering it 💜

I was in NYC watching some Broadway shows just last week and my mom pointed to Bad Cinderella to ask if I wanted to go see that. I laughed and was like "not even remotely". I really didn't know much about it, but what little I knew told me it would be horrible. And honestly, what is with all the terrible, uninspired Cinderella remakes lately? Leave her story alone for awhile. Cause this is clearly not working.
But on a positive note, this video is amazing! Loving the paper dolls.

It was a good idea, just done *really* badly. If it was written/made by other people, it could've been incredible. It failed as soon as they decided surgery should be a part of the lore. They could've made it about how beauty is superficial because everyone views attractiveness differently and that beauty should be about who you are, not how you look. But they did this
