I hope you enjoy AND learn something! I sure did!
    Hugs from me to you!
    Very warmly,

Amen to that. I find all those young girls aren't even very good at it. I think they're overrated. I have a few asmr channels I watch and they're all grown adults. Not these 20 year olds who do inaudible whispers anf pretending to touch your face lol. So ridiculous. I just can't get into it.

My mom was raised on a farm out in Missouri and her mom (my grandmother) always made it a point for her kids to eat with good manners - All of the rules you mentioned in this video were on the list! (There were a few others as I recall...I believe you serve plates from the left and remove on the right? That might not be correct) but her point was that good manners are a mark of dignity for everyone, even if you don't make much money and are living on a farm miles away from the nearest town. She called it 'gracious living beyond the gas mains.'

Dear Jeannie, really enjoyed this video. I often struggle with formal situations, and thanks to you, I think maybe I have a way to understand why. I believe the root cause for me is a confusion between how to behave publicly, socially and how to be authentic as individual. You made me understand the value of extending courtesy to other people with varying degrees of formality and it will change how I might handle social situations going forward. I would love it if you would talk more about social skills. Thanks for all you do.

As an older person who was raised to have manners, I found this video very helpful and interesting. We had strict rules in my family when I was growing up. My late father who worked away from the home always felt that the dinner table was for eating and not talking. We also were not allowed to start eating until he did as he was the head of the table.
I do a lot of the things you mentioned, and also arrange my table the same way as I have done a silver service course and also work at a hotel so notice how the restaurant staff set their tables.
I agree with you that good manners seem to be lost in today’s society and that people have become “Karens.” My sister’s name is Karen but I have to say that she has all the characteristics of someone with that name as she isn’t a very nice person. My late mother always told me, “it’s nice to be important, but important to be nice.”

Jeannie, this was so neat! I agree that you should treat company as nicely as possible. If I have a friend come over whom I know is a bit leary of our large dog, I’ll lock her up ahead of that person walking in, even though I know she wouldn’t hurt anybody. I just want my company to know they can relax and enjoy their stay.
As for formality, our family is Italian American and it’s impossible to keep 25 loud, boisterous people under control at the holidays. We laugh all night, console those going through a rough patch and find humor in just about anything. We love being together, but etiquette goes out the window, especially the talking while eating thing. Yes, we should probably consider dialing it back a bit. :)

This was a fantastic upload Jeannie - I loved it!! And yes, I'd love for politeness, kindness and empathy to have a come back. I remember the days when people would offer someone who looked in more need of a seat on public transport their seat. Nowadays it rarely happens and if you do see or personally experience an act of kindness you feel stunned for about an hour thinking did that really just happen. How sad huh. We've become a very selfish and rude society but I really hope it becomes the norm again one day soon. Much love to you Jeannie for all you do for us needing soothing 💕🌈

I wish I had the “you don’t have to answer every question” years ago - I was cornered in the grocery store by an acquaintance after I had my daughter and she asked if I was breast feeding (a very guilt inducing topic for me) and I said no and talk about probing… she wouldn’t leave me alone about it - my hubby ended up intervening.
    Definitely wouldn’t happen now.

Jeannie this is a wonderful idea for a video. Unfortunately I wasn’t raised in a very formal way, I come from a family of 8 and we never had a dinner table big enough for us all growing up. I’ve basically learned as I’ve got older and some of these things I never knew. I love cruises and always get a bit nervous when going to dinner about making sure I come across in the correct way with people I don’t know. I’m definitely gonna use these tips next time. My only issue is that no matter how hard I try I cannot eat my food with my fork in my left hand, I have to swap and use my right, many people have mentioned that I use the wrong hand and it always baffles me a bit why this is important? I love what you said about being silent and polite in response to confrontation, very ladylike ❤

Jeannie… I loved this video. You definitely should make this a series of videos. The only thing I can add to it is that I was taught as a child even eating our casual nightly dinners at the kitchen table. We always had to ask to be excused from the table before we got up, we would say May I please be excused? Then one of my parents would say yes, you may and then that would mean you were done and could leave the table with a polite Thank you. 😊 ❤ We also said grace before every meal i usually said it because I said it the quickest way 😆 I’m gathering this is because I attended private parochial school. Though my parents were two different religions. My mother was Catholic and my father raised in the Church of England. ( they married in a Catholic Church but no mass was aloud) Today it’s is no big deal when my parents were able to get married in the church with a mass. They did on one of there wedding anniversary. I think I told everybody on the Block that my parents were getting married today. My mother was mortified.😊😅😂 of course she got over it for God sake, but it was kinda of 😄 hilarious. I was much like you as a little girl lol a lot of the things you did as a kid I did too, and I always laugh when you tell us things that you did as a child I think they are so funny. !!!😂 That’s one of the things I love that you talk about because I think of all the things I did as well 😂. I was probably like in fourth grade when I ran around the whole Block tell parents my parents are getting married today …anyway I just want to thank you so much for the refresher on etiquette and I do agree people should be more caring and concerned about their neighbor and anybody in general. I don’t like the hatred and the haters I have seen in the world today it is very saddening to me!!!! I wish it could go back to the olden days I used this terminology when I was a child. I treat others the way I would like to. be treated. The golden rule. I implanted that in my son’s brain since he was 2 years old.
You’ll find sometimes members of your own family can be the worst offenders. I believe in not holding grudges and forgiveness. There is nothing that cannot be forgiven. At least not my world just can’t live like that if somebody is mean to me along the road of life, I take it in a positive way I take it as a lesson learned never to be that way to anybody else so I always turn it into a positive, and just move on and not act that way to anybody in the future that I think the best way to look at it anyway happy Mother’s Day Jeannie . You deserve it. And I hope you’re having a great day.❤❤❤Love an ☮️ Esme’
PS know I’m always dictating from my iPhone if all the spelling and wording is not correct because I would get corrected for that as a child as well. Have a great day.❤

I never forget, after coming back from my tour in Germany. I had to rewire my thought process. When i was there, men do not hold a door open for women. The man goes in first to see if it is safe for her to come in.

The weather got crazy in DFW. I remember hearing a lot of clacking and thinking "Is it raining sideways?" 😅 Then I looked outside and it was as if the sky turned into a crushed-ice dispenser. Finally started pouring rain and oof, trees everywhere got blown down. Luckily haven't seen any destruction to homes, but it was crazy. I love storms but that was a bit much. 😆

There are two groups I belong to. One of them, the hostess not only decides the menu, but does it all.
The second is a group in our community and the menu is prepared and all the people who are in this club are divided into groups of 4 couples. The hostess does the main dish along with a side and emails everyone what the menu is and each couple picks what they will bring, soup and bread, salad, dessert, etc. It’s a huge group and each month you are paired with a new group of 4 couples.
      I hope that makes sense!

As an Italian, I can say that, for sure, one has to use spoon eating "spaghetti allo scoglio" (seafood), I also saw them do it; thinking of this, I can say one would use spoon eating spaghetti like a container to roll them full of sauce.
