Welcome to our dinner etiquette lesson. Today we will learn how to exhibit confidence and excellence in every move you take at the table. You will learn what to expect from your surroundings, how to properly eat and converse during the meal. Thank you for your time.
this was interesting to watch. as a French person I learned to never cut my salad : you fold it, because it avoids making that sound (you know what sound lol). And also I learned we are to never cross our fork and knife (whether it's on the plate itself or even on the side. just never cross them). Also when drinking wine, we ate given two glasses on feet : smallest is for the wine, biggest is for the water (because you should drink more water than wine).
Laurys C so interesting! in the united states we never learn about drinks because it’s assumed that that information isn’t necessary until you are 21, so most people have to figure it out on their own
@@colbymcarthur7871 I learned via my parents when I asked why they had two "wine glasses" but just used one. It shouldn't be about "it's wine glass so it's alcohol so you shouldn't know because you're a minor", because it's just explaining why the table is set that way. Also as a kid I used to help set the table for family dinners (the ones you're like 7373838 at the table lol)
Laurys C Oh that makes sense, my family normally already has our drinks from earlier (whether water, beer, wine, etc), so we don’t usually put glasses down to set the table

I may be wrong but I thought Maria said at the start of the video, she was going to demonstrate the European and American way of eating?. But it looked to me like she ate the salad and the main course the same way. As a European I'm curious as to what the difference is?. This is not meant as a criticism, I really enjoyed the video Maria. I just wanted to know what the difference is and thought I might have missed it?.
When I took home economics in 8th grade we had to learn table etiquette and then we went on a field trip to a “fine dining” restaurant experience and my teacher actually graded us on how we acted throughout the dinner. Many people failed..

I love this vid. I come back to it often. What would also be awesome is if you did etiquette videos for different countries, because many countries have unique things that they consider to be polite/impolite and that would be very interesting and relaxing to learn.
One thing I love when Maria does videos like this is you can tell she has put so much time and effort into really learning about dinner etiquette, rather than just pretending for the sake of the video. She's always so committed and I love that ❤️❤️
I don’t know how I missed this video but it is absolutely the best!! Everything about it is perfectly relaxing. Thank you, Maria. This is a new favorite. 🤩😍😴😴😴😴😴
The scene from Titanic where Molly Brown tells Jack to "start from the outside and work your way in" has informed my ability to use silverware in fine dining ever since. I'm very excited to have Maria teach me more techniques.
It also blows my mind that these videos are intended for relaxation but they should be considered actual training guides (like the towel and clothes folding, too!) because they are just so well researched and executed.
I loved this Maria. It reminded me of being a little girl at my grandmother’s house. She would invite me for “tea” and taught table etiquette. I loved her lessons!
Me, sitting at an elegant table next to my dog during quarantine: So, Molly, please do tell me how your afternoon was. Did you say hello to the mailman again today? My dog, Molly: *does not care that Maria worked hard to teach us table manners and is devouring everything in sight*
Whow, never seen such a detailled instruction for proper eating like this. This is not only ASMR but also really helpful! I learned the rules for correct eating at a fine table in my earliest childhood, but it is really nice to remember that all now. We all tend to get used to a little messy behaviour at table when we eat all time alone i think. *gg* Thank you so much Maria, you are perfect at anything you do!
Not only is this helpful, but the "Always, Sometimes, Never" hand position moment gets my head tingling without fail every single time which has started to become so rare. Whatever you're doing here, keep doing it haha
Commenting again to say that this video must be in the Top 5 best ASMR videos of all time for me, and I've been listening/watching for nearly 10 years... It's not only the position of the microphone and the subtle rustling that makes it feel like actually in the room hearing clothes naturally move, but the soft, patient tutorial/lesson delivery that makes it the most relaxing (and educational!) thing to listen to over and over.
I really appreciate the effort Maria puts into each video, especially the roleplays. No plain white or black backgrounds; she sets up a background appropriate for each situation, whether it's dinner etiquette coaching, pretending to cut someone's hair, etc. Not every ASMRtist does this, and I prefer the ones who, like Maria, aim for realism.
Table etiquette is not a rich people thing. Americans have just gotten too used to eating alone and not being taught proper manners. General table manners such as eating with your mouth closed, using your fork and knife, and not talking with your mouth full are taught in households of all social and economic classes outside of the US.
@@mariabrant1665 lol whys it always Americans this Americans that. You think mexicans eat their tacos with a fork and knife and follow this bs or Italians when eating pizza? Only snobby rich people use this etiquette for all of their meals. Common sense like not talking with your mouth full or elbows on the table is all you need. Might as well eat comfortably we ain't here for long.
@heleen b well not everywhere in Europe, rich countries perhaps but where I live now the main and often only tool for eating is spoon and only one for all kinds of food a and a single plate too
Reminds me of the times when my dad taught us table etiquette, he always said 'never meet your food when bringing it to your mouth, you're not a chicken so dont peck at it' 😂
I was always taught to lean forward (like actually slouch) until my mouth was over the plate and a little beyond so that the food wouldn’t fall on the table/floor 🤷🏻♂️
I really enjoyed the "Always, Sometimes, Never" part. Kind of reminded me of when you're getting fit for glasses and the optometrist is asking "Better with one or with two?"
I went to five weekly sessions of Cotillion to learn this kind of stuff and Maria just taught me more in 20 minutes than those instructors did in a month
But how do we drink?! And do you pour it yourself and if so who elses do you pour? Do then hand it to your right? So many questions!! Another video required.
Maria: Gently tip the glass so as to pour the beverage slowly into the mouth of the funnel. slowly pull out your chair to stand, lift the funnel into the air keeping your elbows tucked properly, and steadily take a knee while bringing the tube attached to the funnel to your lips. release the bend in the tubing, and carfully without spilling a drop, open your throat and swallow rapidly until the entire beverage is emptied from the funnel and tube.
Let me help you out here good sir. There is only one thing to know when it comes to proper table etiquette and drinking. Hold your damn pinky out! Other than that you're good to gulp and slurp away! Hold your hand high and two quick snaps of the fingers, followed by a drinking gesture towards the wait staff, to keep that glass full. With this knowledge your are ready to indulge in the high life old chap. Bon appétit! 🍷🥂
Maria’s glow-up my goodness. Remembering her first make-up role-play and her apologizing for the construction in the background... she is the definition of beauty and grace. Pioneer of the ASMR community. Just wow!
correct soup technique: 1. bring cup to mouth 2. tilt cup 3. slurp soup from cup 4. plonk cup on table 5. exhale loudly (wipe dribble off lapel mic, and repeat steps 1 to 5)
Ahh, reminds me of the days eating meals at my Grandmothers house during holidays. She was very old school, and very proper. I learned this stuff as a small kid. Nice to see a video covering it and reminding me of the stuff I forgot along the way.
The worst you can order is Spaghettis please don't do that if you are on a special date or try to seduce someone lol. An amazing and lovely video. It was really helpful. Thank you.
Maria: Never bite the bread, just tear off a small, bite-sized piece. Me, taking huge bites of buttered bread, wiping my face with a crappy napkin: noted.
this is the first asmr video i ever watched and it was in 2019. i wanted to learn more about table etiquette and ended up here. every now and then i come back to this video especially when im feeling down. thank u maria
Maria: “Here’s how you show proper etiquette while dining.” Me: *watching this knowing full well I just ate an entire frozen pizza for dinner while sitting on the couch*
I just noticed the really beautiful and subtle sound mixing in the first minute and a half. All of the ambient sounds are crisp, while the soft song slowly grows more clear yet does not overpower. It's a masterpiece of sound design. I think each ASMRtist develops an audio style. Yours is very distinct and cannot be imitated. I hope you are proud of your artistic sound. :D

Not only is this helpful, but the "Always, Sometimes, Never" hand position moment gets my head tingling without fail every single time which has started to become so rare. Whatever you're doing here, keep doing it haha

Honestly, it suprises me every time how Maria slips into these roles so perfectly, but is still unmistakenly Maria
When you asked the “ person” if they wanted bread I really expected your husband to take it from you 😂😂
Oh my God , me too 😂😂😂😂

This has the energy of “im Enissa Blanche and im your freestyle dance teacher” but it’s like actually serious
Comments you can hear ^
Wasnt it "Renata Bliss"?
I READ RHIS IN HER VOICE XDDDD
Same energy, different output?
*politely chuckles*
This is rare now adays to find someone who actually knows their table manners! I appreciate this video
Honestly lol the world is going downhill
THIS ladies and gentleman, this is ASMR

Can we acknowledge that sis made a whole 4 course meal in order to make this video? 🍲🥗🍗🍪 what dedication!

Thats why rich people are so slim. There are so many rules that you eat too little.
It’s actually cocaine

Hi Kevin
Reminds me of the times when my dad taught us table etiquette, he always said 'never meet your food when bringing it to your mouth, you're not a chicken so dont peck at it' 😂
aimée my mom would say “food to mouth not mouth to food” 😂
I was always taught to lean forward (like actually slouch) until my mouth was over the plate and a little beyond so that the food wouldn’t fall on the table/floor 🤷🏻♂️
Maybe I am a chicken, dad.
Maria: We break the cookie into small bite size pieces...
Me: Watch me fit this whole cookie in my mouth in one bite... 🍪😁
I think breaking these cookies into 2 halves would be okay.
@@frankfahrenheit9537 Two halves is acceptable, anything more and you might as well smash it with a hydralic press and snort the dust.
That’s not proper.. tsk tsk 🫵 lol

This comment is hilarious 😂😂😂
I really enjoyed the "Always, Sometimes, Never" part. Kind of reminded me of when you're getting fit for glasses and the optometrist is asking "Better with one or with two?"
I like how she doesn't exaggerates her chews like the educated queen she is and not like other asmrists when they eat something
Jase Wendlandt wtf
Jase Wendlandt bro wtf 🤨
mukbang asmr is different, you're SUPPOSED to hear exaggerated chews since they trigger the tingly sensation in some people.
Jase Wendlandt yeah wtf jase

I went to five weekly sessions of Cotillion to learn this kind of stuff and Maria just taught me more in 20 minutes than those instructors did in a month
I can't even count how many times I've re-watched this video. It's a comfort watch for sure.
I want more Of these types of videos! This could be a fun series.
okp431 I definitely need more tutorials on how to be a functional adult. I second this motion.
But how do we drink?! And do you pour it yourself and if so who elses do you pour? Do then hand it to your right? So many questions!! Another video required.
mrwoo1 i was actually so upset she didn’t touch the glasses! I was like teach me proper drinking too! I need all the help I can get here!
Ryan FitzAlan eloquent form my guy
Just wow!
This is still my favorite ASMR video of all time!

This was great! Would love to see how drinking is incorporated. Conversation etiquette is sorely needed as well.
Conversation etiquette, yes!!! Especially in an age where we've forgotten all about articulation.
I came here to watch ASMR and sleep but instead I was genuinely interested on how this stuff actually works 😂
Same
correct soup technique:
1. bring cup to mouth
2. tilt cup
3. slurp soup from cup
4. plonk cup on table
5. exhale loudly
(wipe dribble off lapel mic, and repeat steps 1 to 5)
Same with the liquid in Pot Noodles.
Preferrably done on a building site.
You forgot, dip bread in soup, drop bread in soup, fish bread out of soup with your fingers.
@@Sparkylizzie
Well now that would just be poor etiquette... 😏
