Thank you for bringing attention to one of my favorite lines of all time!!! As a member from 94 and 95, I would like to mention, the technique is still derived from turning the wrists. The arm movement is only residual. A result of allowing your hands and thus arms, to react to the natural rebound. By no means can I play even remotely as good as that now, let alone back in the day so do not think I am being negative! You are amazing. I just wanted to note that these guys had a ton of control even though they look "big". The drums were also a bit low even by those days, I assume to give more range of motion for volume. But don't let the big strokes reflect lack of control!!! These dudes brought a quality of sound that wasn't being done at the time...BOOTS

Hey Geoff! It’s been a minute! I’m glad I came across your channel. It’s good to see you again - back from the Bluecoats years…I was the one everyone called “mini-me” (if you remember back from that Stone Age). I’ll be sending a bunch of my students to your channel too. Cheers!

The way we play the beats between 1:10 and 1:24 is after we play that part, we mix them together. We play the 2s on one hand and the 3s on the other hand and then switch them. It becomes a groove after that.

This is pretty much the double beat exercise we used at Morehead State when I marched there in the tenor line for 2 years. My first year, we decided to create some fun little chaos by doing the triple beat part while the snares did the double beat part, and then we did the double beat part while they did the triple beat part. There's a third part our line always did dating back to mid 90s, maybe before? Not sure when MSU started using it in our warm-up routine; I marched in 2001 and 2002. But yeah; the tenor part with triple beat over snares double beat and vice versa was a fun thing but we only did that my first year.

@freestyle rudiments. Love the breakdowns. I havent picked up a pair of drum sticks for years but the sounds of dci drumlines always gets to me. Your videos actually made me want to practice again so i ordered a pad, some sticks and your book. Do you by anychance have a breakdown of blie devils ditty? If not could you do one? Them, vangaurd and cavaliers are my favorite lines of all time🫡

    • @FreestyleRudiments

@mrnicknick02 well you can't have the original sheets and share or sell. But you can teach bar by bar with your own notation. But tbh that's why I don't give links to sheets to allow the writers to still sell sheets.
