I think for Karen the hype is that she genuinely has amazing skating skills, her spins are perfect and her spirals make you think "I remember why this used to be a graded component". Also the music she chooses usually have great interpretation (eg. On golden pond) and show off her asian american heritage so....doing that in Beijing? Doesn't that sound like it could go viral too?
Mariah always had the charisma and stage presence which she finally got to show when she no longer pretended to be an ice princess.
I really want Amber Glenn who now has a 3A too to go but...USFS will back Alysa for sure the moment she lands a quad or 3A.

Plus Karen has a great Lz and great technique on her other jumps. She reminds me of old school style of skating.
I agree with what you say for Karen. Alysa does have pretty great spins as well though especially the biellmann.
Just wanted to say that the USA actually has three spots for the ladies at the Olympics because at Worlds the total placement was 13 (Karen 4 and Bradie 9) so the US earned their third spot
Thank for letting me know. I wasn't sure if they had already earned the third spot yet but now that i know there is a possibility for 3 girls to go, i'm so excited!

@@paolala They have to “confirm” the third spot at the Nebelhorn Trophy in September. It’s a new rule for this Olympic cycle- since the US only had 2 girls competing at Worlds they have to confirm the extra new spot for the Olympics. I think whoever goes just has to finish in the top 5 (?) which since the larger federations won’t be there that should be doable for the US.
I learnt this at WCh’s, too. Note that it was because of Spain TV broadcast, which I STRONGLY recommend anybody with the slightest understanding of Spanish to watch (doable with VPN). Night and day difference compared to the commercial brake-filled NBC broadcast with nothing but banal commentary and pablum even over the music. (Spain’s TDP is publicly funded, so, unlike deranged oligarchic USA TV is not laser focused on trash commentary and commercial brakes).

the thing I like about Alysa is her mental strength. She didn't have a 3A or 4Lz at nationals, and a lot of people were expecting her to fail, yet was still consistent. If she gets the elements in training, it is a good chance she will land them in the olympics because she is so mentally strong.
I agree. She is mentally tough and nerves won't stop her.
She is a hard worker, never quits, even with all the noise and nastiness against her, and everything she went through, and is so humble and naturally talented as well, and I think that is one of the reasons why she is succeeding and improving as much as she has in a short period of time, and I am proud of her and all the other women/ladies, she has come a long way, and only better is to come.
Tutberidze almost basically got everything planned out for Olympic podium, not just Beijing but Milano Cortina aswell it seems. since the success of her 3A powerpuff girls it kinda gives me the impression that she’s following a certain path that’s like 4 parallel universes ahead of the world, like damn what kind of witchcraft is this??
I hope Alysa can pull through, prove them wrong and shake up the mix though. I do hope Daria and Sasha are the top 2 Russians though.
@@rachel-vf4tw prolly not Alysa right now but I have a feeling we’ll have to wait a little bit through this generation to see a freshly new skater who can ‘actually’ shake things up and break old rules 😅 a female yuzuru perhaps. idk, everybody is just kinda awkward right now and tbh I partly lost hope in everyone except Liza. In fact I can sorta predict no one will dethrone the Eteri’s ladies till after 2025-2026 season, hope this comment age well
I mean, you never know, if Alysa keeps improving at this rate you never know. Mia and Isabeau and Hanna Herrara are also girls that can shake things up on jr. level. Eteri’s girls aren’t perfect either, they’re all talented, and so is Alysa, but no one is perfect, and nothing should be handed to them or to anyone. Alysa is definitely not awkward, at least not anymore or how much you’re saying she is,, and winning a medal, even just a team medal and/or one gp medal is probably good enough for her and is a starting point. If she keeps this up, she will definitely make her statement, as she deserves, we shouldn’t write her off or underestimate her so much, she is great, the eteri girls are great. Nobody is perfect, but they’re all talented, she has so much naturally talent and performance level too. Anyways, she isn’t expecting gold, and even though I’m rooting for her, neither am I 100%, I mean it could happen, but probably not, and I can admit that. My money is on Sasha or Alena gor the gold, and she only wanted to be on wjc podium, she was aiming for a podium finish, not the gold, and she got that, so we’ll just wait and see. I mean I get you, but never say never.

Karen brings back pure artistry to skating that we haven't seen in a long time and it reflects on her score. Not to mention she is a textbook jumper which just makes her a better, more secure choice.
The problem is she didn't behave well at the last Olympics and fell apart so she'll need to 100% earn her spot by being very solid the entire season running up to the Olympics. Yeah she's an amazing skater when she's on but she's not 100% reliable.

I start to feel a little bad for Kamila... everybody is expecting her to win... it’s like her destiny or something like that... and that’s a lot of pressure... and about Alysa... i think she needs to have those ultra C elements on point... because if they are still underrotated... a clean Daria Usacheva can easily go over her.

I think that they might get a third sport at Nebelhorn. I love Karen's interpretation, Amber's perseverance, Alyssa's pure joy when she's on the ice, and Mariah's music interpretation. Bradie just does not do it for me... I feel like she doesn't hear the music, her dress choices are worse every time... I know she's a fighter and hard worker and has pretty good triples, but I think all of those things affect her as well.
They already have 3 spots because Karen got 4th at Worlds.

The US has 3 slots for the olympics just a heads up - because of Bradie and Karen’s world performance. Also Karen came In 4th at worlds under crazy pressure after the Russian podium sweep - don’t sleep on her.
If Kaori wins or gets any medal, it would be the most beautiful suprise ever. She has such a lovely face and her skating is so powerful😍

BE WARNED. Being into the US ladies is.... frustrating. There are such big question marks around the most exciting ladies (i.e. those with high scoring potential). Will Alysa be able to land her restored ultra-c elements in competition?? Can Amber repeat her performance at US Nats, which was literally the only time she has ever gone clean in both programs?? Can Gracie overcome her competition nerves and perform as well as everyone says she does in practice??? And will Bradie or Karen ever get that 3A they've been talking about training for so long? I wouldn't get too invested if I were you 🥲

Even if one does appreciate 🇺🇸 female skaters every once in a while, although mainly for variety distinct from Tutberidze, let’s just be honest about what does it matter what American girls go to the Olympics? If the Japanese and Russians perform clean programs, no American would make it past the 7th spot (and that’s only because Russia is limited to three skaters).
Gracie is long dead 😂. I don’t even know why it worths mentioning her in figure skating nowadays.
Your comment is so negative. The Russians could make mistakes too. They aren’t superhuman like Evgenia was. They have all made mistakes here and there.
what does ultra c elements mean?
@@fishythefish7984 Ultra C refers to triple axels or quads. If you can do either element, then you have the Ultra C.
Also I think the potential worry with the US, is that they love "hype girls" and pin all their hopes on someone who in reality might not take the pressure or aren't even like consistently podium-ing (eg. Gracie Gold). While Russia has a media machine, the girls focus on skating first and the internal competition makes the never let their guard down. The American media will hype whoever goes as the best thing ever, even though we know, those girls never even got a world medal and that hype can bring about complacency and media>skating . Tough stuff.

Gracie Gold might be still be in the running. Supposedly she looks amazing in traing but meltdowns in competitions, there are rumors that's she training with Lambiel - he's pretty good at getting his students in good place mentaly and is generaly very suportive. I think this could possibly work for her
That would be epic if she made a full comeback.
She's the most naturally talented, and it's great she's doing 3-3s again. However, I think that making the Olympic team will be an uphill battle for her. Maybe she can make the Worlds team if the other girls pull out post-Olympics

They'd probably put Karen ahead of Bradie because Karen is usually the one to place higher at big events like Worlds. If Alyssa gets her jumps back, she will definitely be taking a spot. The US Ladies technically have 3 spots for the Olympics. I think Bradie is the most uncertain spot (and the skater people pay the least attention to). She's been working on getting a 3A for over a year. I could see her going for it and flubbing it this upcoming season and losing her spot to a younger skater that might pick up some see ultra-C elements like Audrey Shin (3A and 4Lo). The few promising Juniors the US have right now won't make the age cutoff. Usually the US picks their regular World and Olympic teams differently. They pick their skaters for Worlds hoping at least 2 will place high enough to get 3 spots, especially if it's going into an Olympic season. For the Olympics, they are more prone to pick wild cards that could make the podium if they manage to skate well with all of their elements even if they might overlook them for worlds where they pick based on consistency.

I believe 2022 might be her only real shot at going to the Olympics. Even if USA ladies are not switched around as fast as the Russian ladies, it is slightly unrealistic to think Alysa would be able to retain her ultra-C elements until 2026. Of course if that happens I will be pleasantly surprised and undoubtedly will support her.

Seriously though, I’ve never got the hype behind Mariah and Bradie - they’re both just always so boring!! My ideal Olympic team would be Karen, Amber and Alysa… that way you’ve got one with great artistry and skating skills, one with big jumps and Amber who is a good mix of both!

@@NatashaEstrada They’re only allowed to send one skater because they’re trying to qualify an Olympic spot. Japan or Russia for example who have already qualified their Olympic spots could send as many as they like.
It’s going to be a hard decision between Alysa, Mariah and Amber but whoever can skate consistently is the best choice since they don’t need to win, just be top 5 out of the non-Olympic qualified.

yes they can! Technically form what i understand they have only 2 spots confirmed and they have "earned" a third spot but have to confirm it at nebelhorn
Also the men have to send a man also. Since Vincent didn’t qualify for the Fs at worlds last year they have to confirm the 3rd spot. Also it can’t be the top two performers at worlds last year. So we can’t send Karen, Bradie (women’s) Nathen, or Jason (men’s).

I think Alysa definitely has medal potential at the Olympics. She's improved her speed and SS over the past year while going through a growth spurt, got her two biggest jumps back, and has extremely good mental fortitude. Tutberidze's strategy with young girls means that Kamila could crumble under the pressure because she's never been to an Olympics and will be a very young teenager when she goes. Rika, who was once a favorite for a medal, seems to be struggling this year, but if she manages to bring back her performances like at Japanese Nationals, she is also a podium threat. My dark horse for the Olympic podium is Kaori: she beat Liza at WTT and has so much speed and height on her jumps. She rarely underrotates, and is practicing quads and triple axels. (and based on the size of her 2A, I think she could land a 3A). There will almost certainly be a Russian girl on the Olympic podium, but the FSR doesn't have a podium sweep (or the gold) handed to them just yet.
Also, I would love to see Karen at the Olympics simply because she is skating to a traditional Chinese piece of music for her free and deserves to go after saving the Olympic spots for the second time. I could care less about Mariah and Bradie. Neither of them have the "it" factor for me. I think Amber would be an excellent choice, because even if she skates poorly, she does have a lot of personality and is easy to root for. My dream USA team would be Karen, Alysa, and Amber.
Don’t forget improvements on pcs/artistry side and jumps, excluding some rotational issues on the quad lutz still, like Alysa really be show us up.

yes they have 2 confirmed spots and a potential 3rd if a US lady (who is not Karen or Bradie) qualifies the spot by finishing in the top 6.

At this point if any girl from other country not called Russia getting any medal of any color, that would be an upset. Russia is basically sweeping the podium right now if other countries are not getting serious preparing their skaters and not politicking enough to get better scores

@@rachelbednar2561 yeah I watched her a worlds and she seems pretty good. She’s still quite young so even if she doesn’t do great in 2022 she’s still got a very good chance at making it to 2026

I honestly would love that for her, but whatever happens happens. I can admit it will be hard and long, but she could definitely pull through, and at least help with a team ogm, and a medal or high place in the individual event, even though Alysa with a gold there would be great. I hope Sasha or Alena get the gold if not her, Anna Silver and Alysa bronze, if that’s the case.

US has qualified for two so far; they have to qualify for a third at Nebellhorn.
@@Ardit-kq4bt That's how it goes. Otherwise you'll have Olympic with just Russian skaters which is against Olympic spirit. US just got lucky because Karen finished 4th in World 2021 and they have the required combined placement to have 3 spots (1 to be confirmed at Nebelhorn).

It is because many people mentioned Alysa Liu have a serious pre rotation in 4Lz. Also per rotation scale of Liu is larger than Russians girl.
Funny thing is that the commentator in jgpf (ISU RUclips channel one) described Liu 4Lz as "Quintuple lutz".

Brady is boring, Karen’s got too many cheated jumps, Amber cracks under pressure, Mariah is inconsistent and weak and the jury is still out on Alysa, who has a hip injury. So, it’s a coin toss!
Uhm what. Karen has textbook jumps and scores extremely well internationally. As long as she keeps improving she's a p solid lock for the team.
@@olgasolyar4443 Judges ALWAYS look for her under rotated triples! She can't do a clean long without cheating some of her triples. That's been a long standing issue with her.

For me, Valieva doesn't have the gold spot secure yet. She is an excellent spinner for me, but not an excellent jumper. In case people didn't notice when she was a junior, she could barely land the Quad Toe because of her severe axis problem and landing on the inside edge of her jumps. The only thing that has helped her land the axel and the Quad on the outside edge are her rippons. Without those rippons she can't really land those quads. She does not have the skating skills like the Triple A do. I am rooting mostly for the Triple A to get that sweep like they did before, because its highly possible, it all depends on who goes to the Olympics on the dramatic Russian Nationals, hehehe.
Also Daria is a much better skater in all aspects, especially ss and artistry and musicality but she is underscored in comparison to Kamila who is overscored to the max. Love Kamila but can admit that. I agree and people saying she’s the winner so everyone give up now are just ignorant. Preach.

Yes, Bradie and Karen got 2 spots at Worlds, but neither of them stepped up when they had the chance at the 2018 Olympics - 10th and 11th places. Pretty disappointing. Let's give the spots to someone else - I'm all in for Mariah, Amber, and Alysia, assuming of course that they do well during Grand Prix and Nationals. Mariah has the charisma that the fans love, Amber has huge jumps, and Alysia - let's see what she can do this year.

Well, its all fine, but we know that Olympic podium will be Kamilla, Anna and Sasha.

I am not sure about Sasha. Daria Usacheva will be jumping the 3 A in this coming season as far as I have heard and Kosternaia has also restored her 3 A. 3 girls will be fighting for the third spot in Russia. It will be interesting who is goint to make it.
Besides Sasha's jumps, she is not a strong skater. IMO
And Kamila is the opposite of Sasha and all the girls mentioned have much better jump technique thank Valieva, but Valieva has better ss than Sasha, so it is anyone’s game and who performs the best that day pre-crowing never turns out the way you say it does.
