That failure on a FT part is a new one to me. No max flows yet, but have switched to bar oil for other OPE foam filters that call for "engine oil". No concrete evidence but does seem to work better than sae30👍🏻
Never seen one fail, period. I've seen it happen with other brands/models that are just a pocket machined into the magnesium case. If it's not too wallered out you can use Loctite sleeve retainer. and that will hold the bearing. Tough stuff.
@@richardflagg3084 interesting. Honestly, have never really looked into it. The only bit I know about this stuff was from Walt talking about OEM and aftermarket 372 case issues. Those have a big bit of machined magnesium that the bearing press into if I remember correctly. Didn’t know STIHL had this setup. Seems to be VERY good.
@@oakiewoodsmanIt aggravates me that Husky doesn’t have that steel sleeve in the case half. You’d think that they’d have been figuring that problem out, but apparently they have the mentality of auto engineers! 😢
Ive been using lucas foam filter oil for years and been great..ive tried others like belray as well n good stuff just a mess to clean....i like being able to use fuel or soapy water to clean my filters..
Did you know if you bare-hand service a foam air filter you get extra audience engagement from all the comments about how you can put them in a ziploc and not make such a mess?
Hey Richard, what's your opinion on my best bang for my buck saw these days? I can't really afford the 500i unless I find a crazy deal on marketplace, was leaning 461 or 044, maybe a 661 but I've heard the weight is pretty miserable and the weight to power isn't ideal. Other options are a used 400 or 462, but they're not the easiest to come by. Could also go for a used 572/592 but the Stihl's seem more popular with this generation of fellers, and a tad lighter as well if I'm not mistaken. Cheers!
@@902hand7 that is what I have always heard. People also use air right up on the filters as well. Seems to me that would distort/tear filter media as well. I bet I would use the gas method though! 😉
Always appreciate the content. I work on my own production saws. Do you ever work on power pole saws? Would like to see videos on that if you work on them. Thanks. 🙌
I knew there was a reason I liked this channel. Good job standing behind your work.
Thank you!
Love this channel
@@richardflagg3084you do good work. Keep it up!
Long bars require more chain tension, which adds to the radial load you were speaking about. Great video.
Interesting on the steel ring quality farmertec doesn't have unfortunately. You've really got to pick and choose from experience on aftermarket stuff👍
WHAT A MAN THAT STANDS BEHIND HIS🥇🥇🥇
Unfortunately this shouldn't be uncommon. It's so much easier for most to point a finger and make excuses than to do the right thing.
Good to Know Facts on Farmertech Cases vs Stihl OEM 😎👍🏼 Excellent Repair
Live and learn then live again. Thanks Flagg. 👍
WOW.... didn't know it had NO METAL pocket for the bearing in the aftermarket cases.
Yeah I remember that repair! Definitely lesson learned!
Once again, always good points to think about. Thank you for the knowledge.

I Also Use Bar Oil 😀

Rich nice and informative ❤❤❤
Interesting video. Didn’t know the STIHL cases have the steel ring. Is that not another point of failure? With the expansion and contraction?

I never payed attention to them bearing pockets🤔…I use maxima filter oil..the liquid not aerosol😎

Good to know about the clone cases not having the metal sleeve - thanks for sharing. What do you use to clean the foam filters??
Gasoline actually works best even though your not supposed to. I've used Dawn and a few degreasers and it takes a little more effort.
@@richardflagg3084 yeah I've always used gasoline but recently found out it's frowned upon - oh well.... haha

Bel ray foam filter oil all the way...used it for years on the dirtbikes when I raced
Bel-Ray is great stuff! We’ve been using a few years now and I can’t see using anything else.

@@oakiewoodsman I thought about just pouring used motor oil down the side of the saw but didn’t want the mess🤣

I work on a fair amount of them. I may have made a video or two on them. Total PITA.
Might want to put it in ziplock bag pour oil in bag close and rub it in fliter so it won't make a mess
👍👍 good stuff.
Is that an “after-market” case splitter ?
I think Richards is oem but I've got an aftermarket and it's split alot of case now. I'd definitely recommend it.
This one came from Husqvarna. It was only a few bucks more than the aftermarket ones on ebay.
Thanks for the heads up on aftermarket saws! My suspicions about them have been justified. 🫡
Looks to me like an oil problem
