    This is one of Katie's most polite interviews. Trying not to make questions to complicated and using layman terms for the not so bright - Sara still fails - I am not a Palin fan however in her defense McCain like any boss should have had "Interviewed her- one on one" before he picked her for being "cute" Like Katie says she was tossed into an overnight celebrity. Not prepared at all - however , she has had years to prepare "Study politics" and "issues" yet still doesn't get any more intelligent with answers. The more she speaks the worst her answers get. Anytime she tries to use wit- it backfires. Maybe she should try being more serious.

      Palin was 44 at the time, and a governor. If you don't know what's going on in the world by that time, and you're in that business, you'll never catch up. Even if you start reading something besides the 'Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman...'

    • @lenawooly

      Deanna May She sounds informal and not serious because she doesn't know what she's talking about. This is really common. As Katie said, she spoke in really "general terms", e.g. "shoring up the economy" and "job creation" or "pull up by the bootstraps". I'm a political science student and spend a lot of time communicating about politics with people. People who don't know how to communicate their ideas or don't really understand the subject speak very informally, use a lot of slang/informal language

    Katie's face during the interview was hilarious. You could tell that she really wanted to softball the questions but you could see it on her face the moment she realized the real story was in exposing the fact that this fruitcake couldn't answer even the simplest questions, let alone handle questions on foreign or domestic policy. At the end of the day, Katie's a journalist. She didn't want to hurt McCain's campaign but she smelled blood in the water and couldn't help herself.

    See, as Liberal as I am (and I am very liberal!), part of me cannot help but feel a little bit sorry for Palin. Now before anyone brands me insane, let me explain!
    Palin strikes me as the type of person who has always been surrounded by people telling her how wonderful she is and how everyone loves her, she was extremely popular in her own constituency and as a result I think she genuinely believed that the whole country would love her. I don't think she was ever fully prepared to be ridiculed because she sees herself as an intelligent, popular woman. I bet any criticism that comes her way she zones out and focuses solely on the praise she gets, believing any naysayers to be 'stupid liberals' who don't know what they are talking about.
    McCain's team made a HUGE mistake by not vetting her properly, their second mistake was not to pull her from the campaign when it became abundantly clear that she was totally unsuitable for the job as VP. Don't get me wrong, even if Palin had not been their candidate McCain still would have lost as the country was ready for a change but there are times when I watch some of the Palin stuff and feel a little bad for her because she is just utterly delusional.
    Now apart from that little human piece inside of me which feels sorry for her, the rest of me loathes her because to take attention off herself she decided to keep smearing Obama and riling up audiences on her tours to baying hate mobs in some cases. The Palin of today I have no sympathy for because at this point she is just out for the money and to do that she stirs up as much controversy as possible which just creates problems at a time when the two parties need to find a middle ground to keep the country going.

      For a bit of fun...I decided to transcribe their interview....word-for-word. As terrible as this interview comes across in real-time, it's BEYOND shocking how bad it is when you read it. Palin is quite literally *_THE_* single-most unintelligent person I've *_ever_* encountered during my 32 years on earth. The fact that such a person _also happened to be_ THIS close to becoming VP, if not President, of the United States....is, well, actually....it's incredibly sad. I'm truly worried for our nation. I think it's pretty much over. We're done. The fact this even _happened_ is testament to that.

    Say what you will about Palin's ignorance, but Couric was covering up for her. I fault careerist journalists like Couric for people like Palin being able to get far in the political arena. Couric is being dishonest here and ultimately quite dangerous.

    • @lenawooly
      @lenawooly 9 лет назад +14

      Jim Beam No, she's being polite. It's not necessary to stoop to the level of the people of FOX news and make fun of her, or even directly insult her. The interview was much more powerful. I actually really like how objective she was. That's what interviewers are supposed to do.

    • @lenawooly
      @lenawooly 9 лет назад +1

      Get real dude. Did you hear half the crap that George Bush said? Do you hear 90% of the things that come out of the personalities on Fox News? There's a lot of people this idiotic running around, and Couric is an interviewer -- she's not supposed to necessarily cast her interviewee in a negative light. Besides, that's not how you change people's minds.

    • @jimbeam4140
      @jimbeam4140 9 лет назад

      lenny cooldridge There hasn't been a person as idiotic as Sarah Palin in American politics in decades. George W. Bush is 50 times smarter than she was and didn't throw bullshit around like she did. Palin is a bullshit artist and needs her feet held to the fire at all times. Fox News personalities say stupid things because it's a closed network that protects its own. They SHOULD have tough questions asked of them but because they're all on the same network they throw softball questions at their own kind. When people are polite like you are suggesting you get idiocy like Fox News. In a way you're defending the type of journalism that Fox offers by favourign powder puff quesitons.

    • @lenawooly
      @lenawooly 9 лет назад

      Jim Beam I definitely get your point about that sort of journalism and would not intend to support it. Have you watched the entire interview? It was not necessary of Couric to make it difficult in order to utterly befuddle Palin. She did ask follow up questions, but Palin was basically unable to produce a response. The questions weren't necessarily "foxball" questions either. I agree that politicians should undergo much more difficult interviews... but Palin simply couldn't have gone through that, and it would have been unkind to make the interview much more difficult than it was. (Even Palin acted as though Couric was being unfair to her)

    • @jimbeam4140
      @jimbeam4140 9 лет назад +2

      lenny cooldridge I have seen the rest of the interview and basically Palin did herself in. The questions Couric asked her should have been easy to answer for anyone at her level of politics. The fact that Palin could't answer them was her own fault, not Couric's. It was still a powder puff interview from a journalist who has a reputation as a powder puff.

    I would've given anything to see Sarah Palin interviewed by Tim Russert. He wouldn't have softballed the interview. He would've been merciless. Boy, I sure miss Big Tim. You couldn't get to the White House except through him on Meet the Press. Tim asked the questions intelligent, politically-savvy people would've asked of the candidates. He was the last real journalist left in the mainstream media. I followed his career for years and never knew what party he belonged to because he was equally tough on both candidates. That's a lost art, the ability to conduct an interview without revealing any hint of partisanship. Punditry is about telling people what to think. But Tim conducted the interview and let YOU be the judge and think for yourself.

Even if she didn't burst into outright in laughter, how did she keep her face from contorting in confusion and frustration? I know that I can't! Of course, there is always the magic of editing . . . Couric was stoic during that onslaught of what was (and remains) the unbridled stupidity that is Sarah Palin.

    As civiliced as we claim to be we are for the most part a very primitive specie strugling to evolve. Majority rules. hope is our only hope.

    I can hardly believe that Palin was put forth as a potential leader for American, then again, I am not....I am reminding how little regard the Rep/GOP has for clear and concise thinking

    @tnekkc Hit piece? Couric asked Palin why money should go to financial institutions and not middle class families, and Palin rambled on about nothing.

    I can't believe Sarah Palin graduated high school! If America even considers Palin as any type of government official, we may as well flush the toilet right now. The only hope we have as a country is to have Barak Obama as president, and work with him in trying to correct the destruction caused by the Republican party, and president Bush. It's unbelievable that this women exists in politics at all. She's not even a very good hockey mom...she's just down right scary period.

    I've watched these videos for about 50 times. Palin is more concerned about spouting things that are fed to her to make her seem intelligent, so much so that she does not actually listen to her questions, or to think to answer them. There is nothing genuine about the interview process, for her it's a preprogrammed act.

    It speaks to Katie Couric's professionalism that she didn't just burst out laughing at some of Palin's bizarre word salad gibberish. And, typical of a narcissist and liar, Palin later tried to get people to believe that the interview was a) supposed to be 'light-hearted working mom talk', b) set up by one of McCain's advisor's friend's wife who 'owed Couric a favor' & because this woman doesn't like Palin, she told Katie to try to embarrass her (Palin) or c) sprung on Palin at the last minute & no one gave her a chance to prepare. Basically, Palin never accepts responsibility & always defers blame, traits that continue to this day.

    Thanks Katie Couric for asking Sarah Palin basic questions, to which she was not able to answer correctly. Therefore, she lost the election.
    Thank you!!!

    @BillClintonWasDum No lie, I worked at the mini mart across the street from my house right after graduating highschool at 17, walked to work for a over a year with no car (no need), saved the year's salary (which amounted to $4,000), and paid my first car off IN CASH. I could never do the same thing with my current college tuition. I'm not saying that there aren't a lot of opportunities for people, but it's not as easy as some would like to make it sound. That's all I'm trying to emphasize.

    @meetdiamond When GW Bush ran for prez the 1st time I kept saying "Dont you LISTEN to the things he says?" I just couldnt blieve Americans would vote for him.
    Then we had 4 yrs of proof that he's stooopid and they voted him in again!
    I will not be surprised to see Palin make it to the big race and I am scared of the power of the right-wing base to make that sort of thing happen.
    I often wish I were Canadian. :P
