I saw this crazy mad max contraption at Download this year and honestly couldn't really believe what I was seeing. I spent two whole minutes laughing and grooving simultaneously.
they played at live oaks in monroe, la and it was their first show of the tour so we got to see them try this scorpion tail for the first time! then we went back stage and chilled with them and mark told us how he built it from scratch and they didn't know if it was gonna work for the show but they winged it anyway! they like to do small venues to start the tour to test everything out! was super wicked, despite almost being knocked out a couple times!
That was awesome!!! Wish they had this thing when I went and saw them live. Regardless of not having this device, a good night was still had. They truly are the nicest guys you'll ever meet and humble. In my opinion Nothing More is one of the greatest bands.

It's not just some gimmick, it's a functional, completely original instrument they built and use and it's awesome every time. The reason Nothing More is one of my favorite bands is stuff like this. They LOVE what they do and it shows in their music and live performances. They're having just as much fun as the fans and you can literally feel the energy. I can't wait to rage with them again.

His mic and the guitars are running into a midi which is controlled by the "scorpion tail" that he is standing on. He's not actually singing the melody at that pitch, although he is singing it, and I'm pretty sure he is naturally screaming "call 911 now." That big contraption is accomplishing the same as any desktop midi controller would, but with a whole lot more energy and theatrics. I've never been a fan of electronic music since they have a way of cheating live and just playing back the tracks, but this cover is still blowing my mind. Just saw it live and it was even better.
What he's doing is quickly vibrating his fingers against his larynx to create artificial vibrato. Kind of like if you ran your voice through a tremolo effect on a guitar amp.
