Wow, I find it hard to believe. I write this today 122724. It seems like yesterday, well at least a year or 2 ago. I've been diggin' George Duke since the early 70's. I've never seen this memorial before, but it touched me again like when I first heard Dreamweaver. such a powerful work where he bared his Soul to touch us, and it did. He lived 10 extra years for me. I just found out. 2 days ago I enjoyed one of his live performances. He was still here to me. Thank you George for the gift you gave us all 🙏🏾 Love ✌🏾
To Rashid & John, my heart goes out to you during this time of year. I thank your dear parents for taking me into their private home and lives while I didn't have much of a home of my own growing up; I am forever grateful to the Duke's for their love and for making me feel like a son of theirs when I needed that most. Bearable yet annoying and frustrating feeling to realize this man has given us so much and we've given nothing back to him. Ok, I use to buy his records, but that's nothing considering the times I was in need and his music lifted my spirit. Paradoxically, I am even enjoying this memorial service as if it were a movie, this man has given us relief and comfort even through the love and affection expressed by all those who've been blessed by his friendship and acquaintance. I hope his relatives might be comforted by so many unknown yet equally salted tears.
