theres a reason why Guthrie Govan is a god when it comes to improvising. He knows all the implicated chords and therefore also what scales and dominants he should and could use. PLUS he's got an amazing sixth sense for what sounds amazing. There is a explanation for this... he has been playing guitar since he was 3... no other word for a guy like that than Spectacular. period...
The speed is not excessive or unnecessary, IN MY HUMBLE OPINION. Guthrie does it tastefully and I'm not ashamed to say that I love both this and the Jeff's version.
Nobody plays bass like Sheehan, he has made the instrument his bitch. Also, what more can be said about Guthrie? 2 such mega talents in one stage, i'm surprised their presence didn't cause a black hole or something
wow, I've never heard someone with that opinion of jeff beck. I don't see how "guitar shop" or "blow by blow" qualify as being "stuck in the 60's". he was one of the very first progressive electric guitar players
In my opinion, very few bass-players can bust out a solo and have it work out in favour of the song, especially on a tune such as this. But Billy Sheehan does it very well.
I like that Guthrie didn't shred all over this like I was afraid he would, he didn't stray away from the elegance and beauty of the song like so many guitarists do. Jeff Beck though is the one I listen to though if I want to hear this song. Jeff has the nicest sound.
There are very few bassists out there with sort of amazing ability that Sheehan has. He's way up there as far as my inspirations as a bassist go, for sure!
My $.02 - I think Gutherie realized there was no point in trying to sound exactly like JB, so he thought it best to give it his own spin while paying homage to the original.
Such a beautiful song and such a nice rendition. I'm happy to be seeing Guthrie play soon and hopefully B.Sheehan. Lucky me.........Jeff Beck last year!!!........ I'm in guitar heaven!!
The level of musician ship on the stage is sooooo exciting to behold. I love how Billy treats the bass like a guitar in the sense that he treats it melodically, and as a solo instrument. Guthrie on the other hand is flawless in the way he makes this song his own. It makes sense for Guthrie to do Jeff Beck covers, because they are both unorthodox players...
it's snobbery on both fans part here.this is in honor of jeff beck...billy and guthrie are doing a fine version of the song...and jeff is also a great guitarist...i see no reason that both can't be appreciated for what they are.....insulting either of them for simply existing is....childish
I hate how Guthrie can outplay virtually every shredder alive, but still manages to play extremely soulfully, even when speeding by at 15 notes per second. That's talent that you can't learn.
OMG very nearly made me cry like a baby. guys that was something very fucking special. i love Guthrie!! one guy i would so like to meet and be friends with.(and get loads a lessons from lol). thanks guys lick library FTW
If you ever listen to an interview with Guthrie he has the same philosophy concerning scales, and as for "evoking emotion" isn't it all relative to the listener? I bet their will be people out there who prefer this version...
I agree 100%. Doing it yourself is a great thing. Too many people rely on tabs from websites to learn songs instead of learning to be a better musician. I should have been more clear.
I dislike when people have to discuss how "They are technical but have no musicality" sometimes when fellow musicians play a piece that they themselves did not write, they do it because they are paying homage to that song, and the best way they can pay homage to the song is to at least give the song the justice of playing it their own way. I seriously doubt that Sheean and Guthrie were attempting to make a statement by playing this song, aside from the simple statement of paying homage.
Not bad, I liked it. No better or bests , just their take. I think Stevie and Jeff , can enjoy it just fine. I still like Tal's bass solo better, but I can like what Billy put down just FINE. Great take on a classic.
@Savatage420 Probably so that he can channel his signal through two different settings and get two distinctive sounds simultanously, like an electric one and an acoustic one if he has a piezo pickup in his bass as well. I'm not quite sure though.

there is no "best", only art.
This vid is pure bliss. Probably the best solo I've heard from Sheehan and Guthrie gets a real Zappa tone here. Love it.
I can't believe I've just recently heard of Guthrie Govan!!! He's the sickest player i've heard in a while!
Best stuff I've seen Sheehan play.
Nobody plays bass like Sheehan, he has made the instrument his bitch. Also, what more can be said about Guthrie? 2 such mega talents in one stage, i'm surprised their presence didn't cause a black hole or something

Fantastic musicians, playing a fantastic song, by an absolute legend.
Great cover.
Billy amazes me every time i see him. what a musician!
Lots of emotion in this! which is what we listen to music for afterall...
Being one of the audience at that time is so priceless experience bro🤘💪
In my opinion, very few bass-players can bust out a solo and have it work out in favour of the song, especially on a tune such as this. But Billy Sheehan does it very well.
beautiful, impossible to play guitar and not love this, full of emotion, and guthrie is amazing as usual
I like that Guthrie didn't shred all over this like I was afraid he would, he didn't stray away from the elegance and beauty of the song like so many guitarists do. Jeff Beck though is the one I listen to though if I want to hear this song. Jeff has the nicest sound.

AWESOME!! You can see he admires the great Jeff Beck. Jeff Beck is still the man though.
Stevie Wonder actually wrote this song. Jeff got it from him. One of my favorite songs of all time.
We will always be loving beings... much respect to all these guys :) One Love
OMG!
lots of love to both Sheehan and Guthrie.
Just unbelievable...what a performance from all concerned.
My $.02 - I think Gutherie realized there was no point in trying to sound exactly like JB, so he thought it best to give it his own spin while paying homage to the original.
My all time favorite bass player
Truer words were never spoken!
In assoluto il chitarrista migliore di sempre... Il suo gusto e troppo bello
this has made my day after an afternoon shift at work . billy justs get better like somekind of matured wine or something !
it's just impossible to give it more feeling than billy sheehan... omg!
The moment I read Guthrie Govan and Billy Sheehan in the same sentence I started to see the orgasm of AWESOME approaching.
I wasn't disappointed.
this guitarist is a freak of nature!
I've never seen this much cool in my life.
WHY DOESN'T PETE RILEY GET ANY CREDIT? HE'S THERE TOO GUYS.
holy shit you can do pinch harmonics on a bass?
Such a beautiful song and such a nice rendition. I'm happy to be seeing Guthrie play soon and hopefully B.Sheehan. Lucky me.........Jeff Beck last year!!!........ I'm in guitar heaven!!
Why not? I don't use them and never will as i play by ear, but i definitely see them having a purpose in the musical society.
The level of musician ship on the stage is sooooo exciting to behold. I love how Billy treats the bass like a guitar in the sense that he treats it melodically, and as a solo instrument. Awesome as it gets! Music is an Amazing thing!!!
"Can you tab this Please?" Oh yeah, let me sit down for 500 straight hours and tab this out for you. No prob.
fantastic cover of this 2 guys
I love these guys.
He isn't doing a cover tune...he's playing it his way...he doesn't need to be a Jeff Beck clone...
it's snobbery on both fans part here.this is in honor of jeff beck...billy and guthrie are doing a fine version of the song...and jeff is also a great guitarist...i see no reason that both can't be appreciated for what they are.....insulting either of them for simply existing is....childish
great performance!! unfortionalty no mater who plays jeffs tunes, you know when its jeff or not. Hes one of those unique players
It's called Awesomeness
I hate how Guthrie can outplay virtually every shredder alive, but still manages to play extremely soulfully, even when speeding by at 15 notes per second. That's talent that you can't learn.
I don't get how he can play so shred like yet keep the melody. Unreal.
Jeff Beck should cover this too.
OMG very nearly made me cry like a baby.
guys that was something very fucking special.
i love Guthrie!! one guy i would so like to meet and be friends with.(and get loads a lessons from lol).
thanks guys lick library FTW
billy kicks ass!!!!
You know live Jeff Becks bass player also solos?
sounds great!
Face melting !
I wish people would spend more time tabbing awesome pieces like these than arguing ..
If you ever listen to an interview with Guthrie he has the same philosophy concerning scales, and as for "evoking emotion" isn't it all relative to the listener? I bet their will be people out there who prefer this version...
NICE!!!!
when you are that good, you need someone as good to play with you on stage.
it's called fluttering, it's a whammy bar technique, there are some lessons on how to do it online
I agree 100%. Doing it yourself is a great thing. Too many people rely on tabs from websites to learn songs instead of learning to be a better musician. I should have been more clear.
SHEEHAN!!!!!
Gorgeous
Wow.
wasnt much of a fan of billy's solo. but i loved guthrie's: pure magic
How come I just heard of this guy? Everyone should know who he is. I think I'm just gonna throw my guitars away. I could never play like that.
How great it would be, James Bond themes would sounds that lovely. It would fit anyway..
Not bad, I liked it. No better or bests , just their take. I think Stevie and Jeff , can enjoy it just fine. I still like Tal's bass solo better, but I can like what Billy put down just FINE. Great take on a classic.
He destroy this wonderful theme with unnecesary speed,no art! Long live Beck.
I think Sheehan just played leadbase :)
00.58 - 1.00 is incredible feel
I agree. He's amazing in his own right. Not a killer rocker but that's nothing to take against him.
nice man!!!!
yea thats the right attitude to get better
DAT BASS!
Hmmm....tasty guitar work. Precision, patience and refraining from overplaying anything, lovely.
Great ! But why guthrie chose that effect for it :D
THIS IS GOOD SHIT!
I've Ended as Guthrie's Eternal Lover.... :P
@xTiLkx of course yes, and there are a lot of ways to do that.
Jesus christ they're good.
JÄGERMEISTER!
loving the bend at 2:10
fuckingtastic!!!!!
Oh... love...
@philotze What do you think?!? Being a badass at bass!
@Savatage420
Probably so that he can channel his signal through two different settings and get two distinctive sounds simultanously, like an electric one and an acoustic one if he has a piezo pickup in his bass as well. I'm not quite sure though.
@PaulW016 go to the web site, guthrie speaks about his gear and pedalboard in the interview.
there both great on their own way;anyway guhrie is going up.
come on billy...pop off you know you wanna
Oh you wanna see one great performer ? Too bad, here you've got 3...
@TheDanceofjoy I think that would involve alot of "amazing"s and "wow"s but i think to explain this song in words would melt your brain xD
Do people know this isn't a Jeff Beck song? Its by Syreeta and Stevie Wonder....
Wow! now i found what Guthrie can't do.
Sheehan !
jejejejejejjje must be, greetings from colombia
@willfoxell how on earth did you come to that conclusion?
@philotze A MASTERPIECE!
@TheNightmarex4 Stevie Wonder song. Jeff Beck version. Guthrie/Billy interpretation
Can you believe this is the first time I ever saw string bending on a Bass? And I've seen hundreds of guitar/bass guitar videos... strange.
sheehan is the man played with vai roth paul gilbert guthrie and alot more
I must be crazy but havent bothered to learn anyone elses songs in all my 15 years of playing.....
