- A tour of our home in Grafenwoehr, Germany in the Army military housing community, Netzaberg. Our home is a 4 bedroom home.
Be sure to click on the Military Life playlist to watch all of our videos in Germany! We have done a lot of traveling and went to many Christmas markets! Watch to get an idea of what they are like!
Lived in Germany - Army wife. Back in the mid 70's for four years. We loved it!
I am German, and have to say - that's a great house! Even if the living/dining room area seems small to you, as well as the kitchen - those rooms are actually considered quite big in Germany. Also having 4 floors is almost luxury! For a house like that you would pay a rent like 1500 - 2000 Euros! I understand you have more room/space in an American house, have seen it - but still - for a German home, yours is quite big!
And even the walls/ceiling in the top floor are normal to us, as flat roofs are maily only common with 1 story houses.
Washer / dryer in the basement is also common here, except you own a house with more space in the bathroom or a special storage room where they could fit in. I agree that it's weird that both appliances are away from each other, usually they are close or even stacked on each other.
And regarding air condition / heating - ac is just not regular in Germany! and that kind of heating is common.
So please, don't consider your house as small or weird! different countries, different cultures -> different houses ;-)
Allow me to contradict you. I'm German, too, and this house looks like a repurposed water tower to me. I'd never move into such an unfunctional place unless I'd have to. You gain nothing by piling up all those floors. The rooms are way too small, the stairs are unnegotiable for elderly people, and the uppermost floor must be hot as hell in the summer. What a strange place, especially since it seems to have been built only recently. The business model of those home-builders is obvious: Squeeze in as many housing units as possible onto the smallest possible building lot and laugh all the way to the bank.
@@winnietheshrew2957 I'm not sure what you mean with "water tower", but of course I accept your opinion, and even agree with some points.
Of course that house is nothing for elderly people, who have problems with climbing stairs.
and yes, some rooms could be bigger.
But coming from a small 2-room apartment, right under the roof (tell me about hot as hell in the summer and pitched roof), with a rent which is half my salary, I can only dream of such a house. (all I wish for is a 3 room apartment - so my daughter has her own room - for a reasonable price, which isn't a sauna in the summer and igloo in the winter. don't ask about my heating costs each year...)
I guess it all depends on each ones perspective ;-)

We were stationed at Graf from 81-84 and lived in Tremmersdorf the first year. We lived on base the last two. Love this tour of your house and as a old man who lived there back then and would love to go back, this trip of your home was wonderful.
I’ve always wondered what housing is like in Germany! Great video!
Nice home. I hope to see Germany some day. Let’s see the rest of your family in future videos.
My husband and our two babies will be stationed in Germany in 2 months from now and we have been really nervous about the housing situation. It's all very unclear to us. You should post a video about your moving experience and what kinds of things that you had to go through. What you struggled with and what was really easy. And even things you now know that you wish you knew going there. That would be very helpful! -Shelby 😊
Great idea! Thank you!
Are you there?? My family will be there very soon!
Thanks to a lovely family!x
Nice homes here! I just recently moved to netzaberg
Wow such a beautiful home. Those stairs though. You will be in the best shape in no time lol. As for the appliances separate that's super weird we've never experienced that. Those houses looks a lot like those in Korea.
I am currently living in the Netherlands, but I have previously lived in Germany. Here, as is the case in many parts of Europe, wardrobes are the preferred option, although there are houses that come with fitted wardrobes or what Americans call closets. Also, in a typical German home, it is not common for the washer and dryer to be placed so far apart like that.
Lol the fact she thinks the kitchen is small? That's big for a european kitchen!
I saw orange tiger paws in your teenager's room. Was your last duty station at FORT leonard Wood? That's where I am at now and my husband will be getting a job at grafonwoehr very soon. He is a retired MP. My kids are older than yours. I have one graduating from college and one going into college. I have been perusing the internet to see what our house will be like. I think we get to claim the college kid as a dependant still, and my husband's job may grant us government quarters. So thank you for the tour of your friendly home. I am moving out of a house in the country and need hand holding to calm my fears. It looks like you do an excellent job of being a great mom to your kids. I also noticed your faith t shirt and wondered if you went to Westside Baptist church here too. Hope so, God does amazing things.
Oh I see you found the home video! LOL. The tiger paws are Clemson. We are from SC. Our last duty station was at Hood. So happy to be out of there!! LOL. Yes you will qualify for government leased houses. I have a lot of friends who are teachers and have beautiful homes in the community. Most German houses look like ours inside though. The kitchens are VERY small just to warn you. There are many things that are different and will take some getting use to but it is an amazing experience. The chapel in Netzaberg is brand new and is absolutely beautiful! They offer many different services. I am not sure what your religious preferences are but they offer an amazing PWOC (Protestant Women of the Chapel) group on Thursdays. Unfortunately, I am unable to attend because I work at the school, but a few of my friends do and love it! Again, feel free to ask if you have any other questions! And yes He does!! xoxo
Thank you for your kind words as well! My oldest daughter, Kayla, is leaving for college this year and I am a mess about it!! I am not ready! I don't know how you do it!!
Back in the day we all got stairwells the structures were the same . It’s a lot as an American! I do remember our living room was quite spacious. It was a lot but I don’t regret a minute it makes you who you are to become. Good luck 😒😉😉😉
It's not typical for Germans or Germany to have the washer and dryer this far away from each other. They just set it up this weirdly in Netzaberg, we lived there too. I'm German, my husband's American.
Much nicer than a lot of American rentals. Bigger is not always better and also, recycling is important anywhere in the world! Different does not have to be weird!! The light switches are so much better than here in America. That house does have central heating. The kitchen is nice and looks like a very efficient set up! The little girl was cute! Typical little kid! Very nice house!
Be sure to watch the videos in our MILITARY LIFE playlist to see all of our videos of our life in Germany! We have traveled to many amazing places and been to numerous Christmas markets! Also see the video of the town of Grafenwoehr! It is right outside the gate and it is adorable!
Is this on post? I was under the impression there were only stairwells available, I was in ramstein & lived in a house I was wondering if the housing was similar?
In Graf, they have a neighborhood called Netzaberg right outside the gate that was made for US military families. The homes were built in 2007. There are also stairwell homes on post but they are much smaller. They looked like old apartment buildings. Our house was huge and really nice! Ramstein was amazing! We went there on weekends every now and then to go to the PX and have a little bit of America! LOL
Is this a duplex or triplex? We were just offered a home in the same area, but they wont let us see it for another month :( This was a great video to give me somewhat of an idea because the home offered is 4 stories as well and I was concerned about that.
Sorry for just replying! I'm sure you are already in your home but we are in a triplex. There are a few available homes on our street!
you have 4 floors in your house? that is alot of walking up stairs
Your lucky to live here enjoy it ,hole you can...
Did you guys bring all of your furniture from the states or did you get it once you arrived?
We had our household goods shipped from the states. However, if you choose not to bring your furniture, the houses come with the basics if you need it. Like ours had a couch, chair, kitchen table, and cheap beds and night stands in all the rooms. I recommend bringing your own furniture!
@@Mac5family got it! Thanks so much! The town looks small.... is it more like a village?
Nice house, except for the obnoxious kid.
What the hell?
LA - Obnoxious only if her sheer existence bugs the hell out of you. There is nothing obnoxious about that sprightly child.
Bloody obnoxious
