I have always been very impressed by fitters & turners ("machinists" in Mercan). My main domain is numbers/dollars and taking what is essentially a featureless chunk of metal and making useful complex parts is beyond my meagre skills. I am pretty good at appreciating the process, the skill and the result, though. Nicely done.
The beauty of ALL this, is that you didn't waste four years at UNI getting a useless degree. Instead you became a man of value to the world. Able to do what few can. In this day & age, YOU are a superhero. Thank you!
I agree, but not of everything you say; one can get a degree and become a person of value, just as much as a person without degree can - we have a powerful exemple here...
@@rbelang8331 You are correct sir! I didn't mean to imply, though I did accidentally imply, that a UNI degree is worthless. Many, many young folks here in the U.S. are discovering their four years of effort, is for naught. And they end up at Walmart unloading trucks ...
It's true they get promised the world if they get a piece of paper and then realize the market is flooded with these kids that have all this knowledge but no experience. We have the same problem here in Australia. Yet people are screaming for tradesmen, welders plumbers electricians builders and carpenters. It would seem that this next generation doesn't like getting dirty.
I kind of know the feeling of no free-machining stainless. Its not unobtainable, just easier and cheaper to get off the shelf 304 and 316, then suffer the inevitable regret of grinding, cutting and drilling holes in it! Though if someone gave me a chunk of 304 like that I would make something ridiculous out of it, like the shiniest sledgehammer in the southern hemisphere.

That particular chisel was an eBay special, the trick is to line everything up carefully whack it with a hammer take it down to the band saw 🪚

Little concerned you used a chisel sharpened at that angle mate on stainless. Everybody knows you need a double bevel or the hammer shatters.
