  • V2: Vertical Velocity is an inverted steel roller coaster located at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, California. It is California's first and only Spiraling Impulse Coaster, built by Intamin and opened in 2001. It stands 150 ft tall (46 m) and reaches speeds of up to 70 mph (110 km/h). The ride is tied with Medusa in the same park for Tallest Coaster in Northern California.

    The last clip, when they say V2 at Six Flags Marine World...The V2 being shown is actually the one at Six Flags Great America.
    I always loved watching the track flex and sway, was trippy to watch...but it was safe.

      AngryGumball no it ain't. When it first opened the one at discovery kingdom was originally painted yellow and was vertical just like at great america. Due to city height regulations it was reduced to 150 feet and edited so the spiral tilted forward. This was also when it was repainted red

      This one is still the one over at Discovery Kingdom. Initially when the ride opened, it was a twin to the V2 at SFGA same height, same layout, same color, same, station design as a descendant to the Superman Ultimate Escape ride at Six Flags World of Adventures. The ride opened for about a month until the locals in Vallejo who has too much time in their hands complained about the structure being to high and not abiding city codes. The ride was repainted red in 2007.

      Also that was the year that V2 Vertical Velocity was repainted because I was trying to figure that out which year V2 Vertical Velocity has been repainted and now I finally got the answer it's 2007

    The spiral was designed to shake slightly. The train would go through it at high speeds and put a lot of pressure on it, and if it didn't shake, then the track would be over-stressed.

    I think the best thing about this ride is that they originally built over the City of Vallejos height limit, and they did it knowingly thinking the city would just overlook it

    If you had read, I said that the LAST PART of the video was V2 filmed at Six Flags Great America. I am 1000000% aware of what's happened with SFDK's V2 as it's my home park. You can CLEARLY see Yankee Clipper and Logger's Run, the 2 interlocking flume rides.

      It's so much better being red on a darker red because it isn't a copy from other parks. Plus yellow and blue isn't an interesting combo. Now, it's red and yellow because they force this superhero image on every park and it's become even more tiring.

    I operated V2 at marine world from 2016-17 and if I saw this commercial I would of gagged. I guess being from a different time can be pretty convincing but V2, even being as unique as it was, was really nothing too special. It was still one of the best in the park tho.

    • @YurBoiCarson

      chad d it was changed because it was over 150 feet and the city of Vallejo has strict height limits so they had to either remove it or alternate it and so they made the first spike at a 40 degree angle

      Where Discovery Kingdom is located. Each city has their own requirements for height of height, or state --- this case city it seems. Alton Towers are not allowed to go above the trees. Discovery Kingdom I believe were not allowed to go over 150 feet I believe, they got in trouble with V2. So the city told them it either has to come down or change something the the spiral that exceeded the height. Thus the barrelroll.

      The ride was built over the height limit so SFDK changed the spiral to an angle and shortened the vertical spike.

    • @eliasmertens9313
      @eliasmertens9313 8 лет назад +2

      +Nicholas Guzman Actually Six Flags owned it the since 1999. The reason was actually because it was built over the height limit (but they advertised it as 150 feet which I find pretty awesome for them to do XD) so they had to shut it down and make it 150 feet. I like this video because there aren't very many videos from before it was redesigned.
