I'm going out on a limb here and say your gear wasn't up to the challenge. My relief comes from knowing you got the video out and you safe. I have no way of repaying you for this channel. You're the man!! 👍✌🖖🥃🔥
Very interesting video Simon and glad you’re safe. Not having to bail or call for assistance is a huge bonus! Hindsight is a wonderful thing especially while sitting in the comfort of my sitting room! But I have to ask,…….. why use a 3 season tent in the middle of winter in the mountains? Why pitch in the hollow of a mountain? Why ignore the worsening weather? Regards from deepest Dorset 👍
Oh gosh… I’m only 10 mins into the video. I should get back to it before I read anymore comments! 😁 … I got a tad nervous watching the wind beating that little tent 😬
Quite simply one of your best videos Simon. You're the quintessential Englishman quietly chuckling to yourself as that hoolie continues to blow outside and its put a proper smile on my face so you have my immeasurable thanks
I would argue one of the best wild camp videos I've ever seen. My wife and I had dinner from the comfort of a warm room and watched this, incredible weather, it became about survival, a little different from a few pints and a hammock camp in the wagon, well done mate.
@@simonablokeinthewoodsGreat video Simon, terrible weather, might need a stronger tent if you plan on doing something similar again..by the way, are you ex forces by any chance...?
Simon, thanks for that. Initially I thought what's he doing?!! Then it came to me.... you are living life to the full! Well done for putting up with those difficult conditions and what's more, filming it all. Much appreciated.
I've been to that very spot when I was a young lad with my school back in the 70s in the summer my school mates had a history class on the plane, it sad that both crew never made it thanks Simon for Awesome video 👍
That’s for sharing your adventure!!!! Glad you showed that things don’t always go to plan. We have a slogan in our little camping group “embrace the suck”! You demonstrated your skills and resourcefulness! Glad you’re okay. Most people don’t realize just what a dangerous situation that was. Thanks again for the video!
I'm here in Hawaii. If it gets down into the 60's we're freezing. Just watching you endure that overnight chilled me to my bones.🥶 You are the man Mr. Simon. 👏💪😁🤙
It is wierd, once on holiday in Loas having been in Thailand and Loas for a month or so, I woke-up feeling freezing cold. I put on virtually every piece of clothing that I had with me, stepped out of the door of my hut and was greeted with the usual sight of the locals bathing in the river, but I think complaining about the cold. My friend emerged from his hut and also commented how cold it was. He had one of the, (at the time), "space-age" watches that told you stuff like altitude, pressure, and temperature! It was 22c!
Just love all of your videos Simon, never over the top, no bragging and pushing your chest out, just one lovely guy enjoying what he does. Everything you do is always spot on, no dramatics for the camera just what you see is what you get. Your camp craft is always spot on with added respect for the environment. What a legend. You remind me of Ed Stafford, he’s a top chap too.🤜🤜
Snow--donia..I'd say so!!! That hump up the mountain with a heavy pack in wind and freezing rain and sleet was epic enough, never mind the brutal conditions at the top. The cinematography was superb and the vistas amazing! Nothing but respect to you my friend, especially keeping a smile while enduring a trying camp!
Thanks Simon for showing a difficult trip. Many people would hide the difficulties and only show the beautiful, easy times. Thanks again. Keep up the good work.
Fantastic diary of a camp you won't forget in a hurry. What people should take away from this is don't panic and sit it out. Simon you showed great hill 🏔️ skills. Looking forward to your video of a more comfortable night in the bothy.. Snowdonia 1 - Tent 0.
Phew! Glad that at least the tent kept the weather off you Simon. That was an adventure and a half!! Thanks for the effort you put into these videos for us to sit in the warm and watch.. you’re a hero, but please take care. Regards, Les
Wow, what an exciting adventure. As somebody has already quoted "it's only exciting when you're back home safe" also I'd like to add thank you for taking us along I can't imagine the extra work it takes to film it all.
I was very concerned as well as impressed, Simon. You always provide a great video which keeps me coming back for more. I learn a lot from you. Thank you.
Well done Simon. That one could have seriously demoralized a lot of folk but you managed to keep your spirits up AND continue with recording the unfolding events. Brilliant. Thanks once again for a great piece.
Ditch the tent it's a liability lol ! Great content as always Simon , truly one of the best outdoors vlogger's there is , very modest and educational every time....... Many thanks for sharing your life experiences 🙌
I found this video to be thrilling and was rooting for the hero at every moment. Such a wonderful demonstration of maintaining a positive mindset. Lovely weather!
Kudos to you Simon. That looked like one hell of a night up there. I felt for you in that one. The effort you put in is much appreciated. Watching you walk out of shot up a snowy mountain knowing you’ve got to come back to get the camera before going back again.. bring on pt 3 ⛺️

I suppose these kind of adventures are only epic once you reach relative safety. Superb courage and charima as usual Simon. Definitely an epic adventure.
The more nervous, uncomfortable, cold, scared, etc. you are while its happening translates directly and inversely to how fondly you remember it down the track (contingent on no real harm coming to you, of course).
What an exciting video , definitely worth another viewing. Big fan of your work & time you take to show real trips + DIY 🙂. Zero smoke and mirrors on your RUclips channel. Great work and congratulations 🍾. Greetings from Norway
OMG! What a night! What an adventure! So glad to see that you made it out alive. Thank you for your dedication to filming but please always keep your own safety as top priority.
Hi Simon, your videos were what fuelled my desire to get into wild camping. This video deserves massive credit. Despite the awful conditions you managed to make helpful and informative content. Thank you 👊👍
Thanks for posting another good video of your campout in Wales, looks like it was a very cold trip! Tough to see the airplane parts scattered around the site as it reminds me of the field where my friend Mike went down and died after hitting a high voltage power line while out spraying, a field that he had done dozens of times. God blessing his memory and the memory of the two pilots than went down in Wales.
Went to the same place about 10 days ago, gave me chills when I saw the wreckage, we camped by a cluster of rock just below the top by the lake so was sheltered from the wind although a bit boggy it was an enjoyable experience, great footage Simon!
Absolutely amazing. Thank you for taking us along on your adventures. I enjoy watching each and everyone of your videos. That was some terrible wind. Looking forward to the watching the rest of the trip. God Bless.
That's one hell of a wild camp. I felt for you on that one. Much respect for maintaining your sense of humour and managing to film the content for a great vid.
I have to hand it to you Simon - though I've been in similar circumstances and had to chuckle a bit at your nightmare (because I feel your pain lol), I would never consider filming in the midst of it! That not only takes incredible patience, but dedication to your subscribers. Therefore, in recognition of your great sense of humor and courage demonstrated under extraordinary conditions, I officially welcome you into the Farternal order of " Funguys". Our motto: We're takin' a liken' to hikin' on the lichen.
Felt for you out in those conditions. You coped brilliantly Simon, and gave us a real time, real life demonstration of how to adapt and survive. We'll done and thanks for sharing.
I watched this in my car through the audio system, felt like I was in that tent with you, apart from the fact I was warm and my journey home was considerably easier. Thanks for sharing and thanks for going extreme on this one.
My hats off to you Simon, what a difficult night. Normally your videos are so peaceful but this one was a nail biter. Thanks for keeping it real for us.
Seriously extreme weather on this one matey! Loved every minute of this vid. Great view, big walk in, plane debris, views and crazy weather! Brilliant video Simon.
I feel your pain Si, bummer when a tent gets trashed but it's all part of the experience. Bet you were buzzing when you got of the hill and thawed out. Great film and fair play for filming when it got grim. All the best, Si 👍🎥😉
Wow. I've never been camping in my life and I can't say this the conditions you braved made me want to try. I'm amazed at your demeanor in the face of this sort of weather etc. On top of all this, showing these shot of you hiking up and down etc, presumably requires you to set up a camera, walk to and fro then go back to repack the gear. Excellent entertainment and excellent filming etc. I'm going to sit in my armchair and go hiking with you again! Wonderful music too. Thank you.
What a gnarly adventure. Way to hang in there though. When the pole broke, I probably would’ve bailed for the night. That’s why I always make sure I bring a beefy headlamp. If I ever need to bail it’s probably going to be in the middle of the night and I’ll need both my hands. This will be one of the stories you can talk about for decades to come though. Helps you appreciate the easier times too.
"The mountains can be dangerous places to be when the weather turns, so always be prepared for the worst, dress sensibly, let others know where you are going and when you expect to return and be prepared to use a map and compass to get you safely off the mountain." I'm going to take the liberty of adding a bit of extra advice of my own, which you yourself demonstrated so well in this video: When the going gets tough up in the hills, a positive attitude can stop an adventure from turning into a disaster. Keep smiling Simon. Great video!
Good day Simon from snowy blustery Saskatoon Canada! Really appreciate all the time and energy you put into your beautifully cinematic videos. They say it’s the roughest trips that you will always remember. I think you’ll remember this one! I also agree with a previous comment that your ability to laugh and be positive in the face of adversity is a gift! Thanks for sharing it with us. 🙏🏻
Absolute honesty with your videos is so refreshing and an inspiration to all of us - you don't break simon. Thanks for taking the time to do this for us all to watch.
I slept a couple times in a tent above the tree line in the Canadian Rockies and it’s really hard to have good restful night. But poking your head out of a tent above 1800m is priceless. Well done Simon!
Simon, that was an Epic night of camping, one you’re sure to remember for many years to come! Your poise & calm disposition, even during such chaotic times as these are amazing to me! Kudos to ya, mate! Fantastic vid, as always, but this very well may be my new favorite! Me hat’s off to ya, mate! Job well done!
You are a trooper Simon, my wife was almost panicking just watching! May have been a rough night, but you’ll have one heck of a story to tell! Thanks for letting us share the story with you
Great video. Thanks Simon for making the effort to film in such grotty conditions. Ps, the Alpkit stove you use is not a Jetboil. I think Alpkit would not be pleased to hear their product described as a "Jetboil" ( one of their main rivals). LOL!
Oh man that looked brutal - the wind chill must have been awful - amazing job Simon after that night to continue to film and share the story - thank you. I remember hiking in north Wales about 20 years ago and (despite being 90 Kgs) being almost blown over the wind was so strong. It was unreal weather so amazing job to camp in the mountains like that
Mountaineering can offer great rewards, but can put us in situations that make us wish we were anywhere else. Great job and effort with this video Simon. We are blessed to watch it. Thank you!
Nothing like icy windy conditions to test your ‘grit’. They don’t teach grit in the world much anymore.. most everything has gone to the side of comfort. Well done.
Top marks on the paper map and compass Simon - i've encountered many folk up in the Lakes asking me to direct them to the path down when the weather comes in! How anyone can head into the fells without a map is simply beyond me, I mostly use View Ranger nowadays as it's just really handy and modern phones are waterproof with big batteries etc (and just so handy and easy to use) but I always, always carry an OS map and compass in the bag every time. Just in case
Oh man, this was one of the coolest videos! The best looking views I have ever seen, definitely need to plan a trip to Wells! That place is beautiful! The plane wreckage was incredible. I hate your tent broke, but what a story u have to tell! Great work buddy!
Awesome Simon, but by god please be careful out there! As others have said, your videos have inspired me to get out camping and we all hope to see many more in the future :) It’s summer here and I’m camping next weekend, and if it’s nice and warm I’ll be thinking of you and your snow and wind while I’m basking under my tarp.
Hi Simon, that was an epic camp! I have camped in snow many times but never in a blizzard like that too. Well done mate and thanks for sharing. I’ve been following you for some time now and absolutely love your vlogs. Regards Paul.
I know i said it would make a nice change for you to do a mountain camp on instagram but it looks like you had your hands full on that mountain. Nice to see it all came good in the end . Nice one Simon , well done mate and all the best.☺👍By the way just so you know i enjoy all the videos you do mate and I know you put a lot into them and it is very much appreciated.
A horrendous night tent broke the snow decided to make an appearance winds where bad and still you remained upbeat well done Simon it's blokes like you that put the great back in Britain amazing 👍
My last night camping was at Columbia, California. Right next to a beautiful grass runway where I landed my Maule. Sunny, perfect temperature. I don't miss backpacking in Wales!
The world has been set ablaze, and it will reach the quiet places sooner or later. We have fouled our nest in the West. What a shame we let our guard down for so many decades. Praying it can be averted somehow. IMO.
I'm sat watching this in my comfy arm chair, next to a roaring log fire, ...with a nice cup of tea, some hot buttered toast, but the funny thing is I am envious, what a fantastic experience, one I guarantee you will remember in ten years time. Wainwright once said Everyone should experience a night on the fells once in their life....maybe he meant in summer..... :) Wonderful video, thank you.
Thanking God for looking out for you in that one. You are a good man and the adventures we have vicariously through you are always top drawer. Thank you and God bless you.
Brilliant video, again you're an inspration to us all. I will as ever take away from your adventures learning, knowledge and the passion to get out there and do it. Well done.
Oh mate…. What can I say…. Poor little tent taking a right battering!! And still smiling… another top video which I thoroughly enjoyed… thanks Simon… and grand choice with the mighty “Buffalo” kit
Epic! At least the fabric held, that's the main thing. It's an experience for the memory bank for you. When it goes a bit wrong or bad weather make the best memories. Thanks for the video. 👍🏻

That looked terrifying uncomfortable and yet still fun all at the same time. Great video as always Simon.
Awesome video Simon, much appreciated for all your effort you put into that one 😊
Hi Simon, that was an epic camp! I have camped in snow many times but never in a blizzard like that too. Well done mate and thanks for sharing. I’ve been following you for some time now and absolutely love your vlogs. Regards Paul.
Well done man, chuckled through this, your a trooper and your ability to keep your spirits up is commendable 👏👏👏
Thank you Dave! 😁
A horrendous night tent broke the snow decided to make an appearance winds where bad and still you remained upbeat well done Simon it's blokes like you that put the great back in Britain amazing 👍
Haha - thanks Paul! 😊
Shame about your tent, but it’s all part of our adventures. Great location, Snowdonia never struggles to deliver exciting times
Buffalo systems deserve a great deal of credit here too, they're great. Well done Simon, a huge effort, thanks.
Wow! What a night to spend on the mountain!
