- In this video, I head I am out for a New Years solo overnight camp in the woods in my hot tent. A nice hike up the Peddars Way brings me to a secluded pine forest where I can reset amongst the hushed trees.
After setting up my tent and tent heater, I collect firewood and process it down just as the light begins to fade and the rain starts. A delicious dinner of Chinese style pork and fried noodles, washed down with a couple of strong beers and Im ready to crawl into my sleeping bag.
Morning brings brighter weather, coffee and black pudding for breakfast before packing up and heading back the way I came.
A delightful night out in the woods - just what was needed after my Christmas break.

Happy New Year, and keep getting better! My best to Mrs Woods as well! This was a nice relaxed outing, and I hope to do the same thing soon, same tent even! Hard to find Black Pudding here, but some of our British or Irish restaurants do serve it. Love it with baked beans and eggs!

I'm going through a rough patch, was diagnosed with ADHD at 41, was quite overwhelming as a father and a sole bread earner to grasp this and the unpredictable work and personal life ahead, grabbing on to the bits, and Simon you give me hope, to persevere and overcome, God bless you.

Watching this 8 months after you filmed it. I was ill too at that time and it lasted for quite a while so I send my best wishes to you and your family. Illness at Christmas and NY always feels worse. Glad you're on the mend, and I hope your wife starts to feel better soon! One Christmas several years ago, when my children were very young, I had a terrible dose of the flu. All I could do was like down as still as possible. Christmas basically ground to a halt that year because I was the kingpin that made everything happen. I felt so sorry for my boys that year!

@@simonablokeinthewoods it was! Boxing day they went off to the in-laws, leaving me lying on the sofa with a jug of water. They came home the next day and I was still in the same place. I could just about make it to the loo every now and then 😂

Another great video thanks Simon. I got back into camping as an adult a couple of years a go to take my son and make some memories. Amazes me that when we do a night or two on a camp site we fill a small van with gear. You create a great camp including a hot tent stove and fill a rucksack 😂

I helped on a friend's family farm in Norway summers when at university. Farm Mom made me something else first time she made blu sausage. I did 5 years in Navy before school, and told her that I would eat what she made. No substitutes required. Kind of like liver.

There are few things in life as nice as being snug in your tent with the delicious smell of supper cooking on the wood stove and a good, dry wood pile.
