So true, I ran my first half marathon a few months ago, after spending a year losing weight from 102kg. The fastest I had run previous to that was about 2:05 for about a mile short of a half marathon. Ran the half marathon on the day in 1:46. So much fun running alongside thousands of other people who have their own story and their own goals, such a wicked energy to it.

Casey, i've been teaching my daughter this very lesson recently, and she's been finding it so hard! she's super competitive and she's only 8 years old and while i get it, i'm a skater ... skater since i was in school, sponsored when i was 17, dropped out of school to be a skater. i'm now 44 and doing well for myself and my family ... i still skate and have started taking her skating in Manchester UK where we live, i just want her to understand the fact that some things you do can just be about YOU ... a thing for you, it doesn't matter about where anyone else is, just push yourself and above all it's about having fun ... weather it's skating, running, making cakes whatever ... push yourself! ... again great video Casey! Thank you! x

I agree so much. Thanks Casey. I am a 35 year old mum of 3 young kids from the UK. I ran my first half marathon two weeks ago. I had set myself a goal of under two hours when I signed up back at the start of the year. I couldn’t run a mile without stopping at that point. I did 4 months of training and ran it in 1 hour 47 (and 33 seconds!) I felt so frickin’ proud of myself. For the first time ever since having my kids when I feel like I can never get everything right.

I needed this right now! I went on my first run in over a year after coming back from an injury and it sucked... it was long slow hard and painful. Completely demoralising to not be anywhere near the pace I used to be. But then I stopped and looked at the bigger picture and realised that the accomplishment was that I ran again despite my knee and despite the struggles. Now I just gotta do it again and again until I’m where I want to be!

Truth! Running and Triathlon are my life and it’s because I get tangible evidence of my progress. I verbalise your message daily to the kids I teach but you’ve summed it up perfectly! I’m going to attempt a vlog on why my birthday weekend is spent racing not partying! Love it, dude 🤟🏼

Great video. Congrats for surpassing your goal!
Your opinion is according to mine as well. But my sports teacher wants all of us boys, no matter which age or sports condition we are in, to run 3.2km in 10 minutes to get an A.
I think that’s so silly! You can’t set that kind of Mark to reach for all of us. Everyone is in a different condition and if only one of us could reach this goal, my teacher should see that the “goal” for an A is way to high, or just useless, but I don’t think, she could realise that.
    Isn’t that dumb?
By the way, the person who ran this time is playing soccer since 8 years 2-4 times a week.
What do you think about this?
And I know, maybe our class isn’t the sportiest there is, but that’s not the point.
Hope you guys, and Casey you too, can understand my point and could give me your opinion about that.
    (I’m from Germany btw - cheers :) )
    Have a great day!

That's a 5 minute mile (just over a 3 minute kl). 1 Can your teacher run a 5 minute mile (or is he a running coach)? If so he should know that this is an unreal expectation for non-runners and even some kids who do run. 2 If he can't run a 5 minute mile (or is not a running coach) then that's just plain ignorance on his part. An amazing time for a 2 mile or 3200 meter run is 9:45 maybe for a student in a running club. Regular non runner students with no expierence might take up to 16 or 20 minutes. Running a Ten minute 3200 could lead to injury (espically with people who don't run). This is coming from sombody that ran cross country for 6 years and track for 3. But it was what Casey said which was most important. Its not about your place or your time marked against a certain standard, but acheaving your personal goal is what counts.

Thomas Kerrigan that’s exactly what I meant.
Thank you for supporting me :D
I know, my personal goal is to run below 15 minutes but I want to have an A in sports, what I’m not able to achieve unfortunately.
      Thanks for understanding me.
