Rolling Stones stuff is not nearly as hard to sing as many of the 80’s hard rock, but Mick Jagger is really an inspiration. The difference is, he still really wants to do it and is putting the effort.

@@jesses.9843 yeah, I think Mick Jagger is an absolute class act.… I don’t listen to a lot of Rolling Stones.… But I think Mick Jagger is showing us that it can be done and how to do it

They were young, had bad or improper technique and singing night after night in all type of conditions plus the drugs, the booze and the cigarettes.
The only guy that still sings amazingly well is Glenn Hughes
He still hits those high notes

I'm not sure if you've heard the news, but Aerosmith is retiring due to a larynx injury sustained by Steven Tyler last year! He has not been able to fully recover from it! Very sad!

Jagger is one and Paul Rodgers (my hereo) was another who really paid attention to his voice. I'm 66 and I stopped singing in rock covers bands because 1) I didn't feel I could do the songs justice and 2)screaming over the Marshalls just wasn't doing it for me anymore. I concentrate now on tone and quality of delivery picking songs I can work with tonally and that allow me to express a bit more what the song is about. I love that old music and always will but it isn't for me. I'm buzzing today because yesterday I rehearsed with some guys who are restarting their band after 12 years. I loved this outfit when they were active in the region and the songs. The original composer/guitarist/vocalist doesn't want to be involved so I get to sing his songs. All in my range and I get to interpret them how I want - Magic. I was about to give up...now here I go again.

I'm 46 and I have no issue with this genre, but it requires 2 things... To be prepared to put in the effort ( it requires your 100% and then some ) and mostly - Because I have trained those SPECIFIC muscles on a DIALY basis to allow my voice to do so. The reason why a lot of our favorite vocalists now sing poorly is they simply don't " train " hard enough.

So true! The muscles must be worked or they will atrophy (more so with age)…. Use it or lose it!

Many of them used their “ head voice” originally… you can’t use that forever.

Fee Waybill got help from David Foster. So did many other singers.
Bryan Adams can still sing. He credits Mutt Lange. Joe Elliott agrees 👍; Mutt Lange produced and co-wrote the hit Def Leppard albums. ➕ Joe Elliott has Roger Love as a singing coach.
Geoff Tate of Queensryche and Ann Wilson of Heart had the late David Kyle as their singing coach.
Jaya Ramsey 🇵🇭 , who toured with Stevie B, had her mom 👩 Elizabeth Ramsey as her coach.
Thus, a good 👍 singing coach or producer can make a difference.

The REAL reason is AGE. Nobody could sing as good as when he/she were 20 years old after 40 years. Some cant even f**k as if they were 20 years old either. Not even Jagger can do it....he sounds like and old lady screaming.

dude it's been 40 years.... of course their voices are gone. Steven Tyler seems to be an anomaly (even that might be one really good night).. have you heard Robert Plant lately? Now the 80s guys all sang high with a ton of falsetto.. no way they are doing its now. The 80s was never my favorite generation for rock music (GnR and U2 are exceptions) most of the LA hair band scene was just not my thing, but you can't deny those singers had high ranges that are near impossible to replicate as one ages.

Bruce Dickerson, Sebastian Bach and Mickey Thomas all still sing highs well, so they prove it’s possible… every singer is different though
