    In a interview RM said
"Fake Love" and how it actually fits into a bigger story that the group is trying to tell through their music. "Basically, our albums are like a four-part series; [the series] is about love. So [Love Yourself: Tear] is part three and it's like a turning point. We're saying that if you're not true to yourself, your love won't last forever. The love could be person to person, it could be between me and myself," he explained. He then joked, "It's kinda deep." And like, it kind of is though.

There’s a lot behind Fake Love. 1st of all it’s the 2nd part in a trilogy of albums called the LOVE YOURSELF series. Fake Love was the single for Love Yourself: Tear which was the 2nd album in the series and was thematically about realizing that you can’t love someone else without learning to love yourself first (hence all the lyrics abt wishing they could hide their weaknesses and changing themselves for their partner- they didn’t love themselves but instead were using their partner to add meaning and value to themselves, to feel good abt themselves). That album was also made when BTS blew up in the west and the members were going through so much pressure and stress that they contemplated disbanding.
2nd, Fake Love is a part of the Bangtan Universe aka The BU storyline. This storyline is told through MVs, webtoons, video games, etc and started back in 2015. A lot of the imagery in the MV (the fire, the water, the circus stuff, the snickers, the phones, even the “SAVE ME” on the wall, were all call backs to the storyline. There’s a video by xceleste explaining the whole storyline up to 2020(?) if you ever decide to check it out and want to know if your theories are correct.

By 2017, BTS had crossed into the global music market, leading the Korean wave into the United States and breaking several sales records. They became the first Korean ensemble to receive a Gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for their single "Mic Drop". BTS PAVED THE WAY!

  • @SnapCracklyPop

BTS has several diss tracks (including cyphers) in response to former underground hip-hop peers in the first half of their career, and Mic Drop was kind of like a farewell to that in a way (at least specifically to certain hatin’ hip-hop peers/community back at that time). Kind of like we have nothing left to say, don’t need to apologize, their success despite the haters/doubters and despite BTS lack of privilege, have proved themselves… so mic drop. RM (rapper/leader from the ambulance scene) said the line “mic drop” was inspired by end of Obama’s speech at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Fake Love sounds like it’s about romantic relationships, but the real reason for fake love is because you were pretending to be somebody so that person or others would love you. So it’s fake love, because you’re not being yourself, you allow yourself to be molded by other people’s expectations or what’s consider desirable. But if you learn to accept yourself and love yourself, then you would be yourself and the person/people would love you for real…so that’s more like real love. If be your true self, the love in your relationships would be real. BTS different. They go deep, are sincere/authentic, and are so relatable. That’s why for those who get it about them, become real life long fans. The messages and lyrics have really helped millions to deal with life struggles and commentary on society. Also, why do their songs hit so dang hard? lol. And so much dang swag. They’ve had hand in writing, composing, and producing since they started they debuted in 2013. You should not only listen to their singles/title tracks, but you should definitely listen to their b-sides. Almost no skippable songs on all their albums. They’re so dope and they are all Beyoncé’s, each member is a great artist and they are tight like blood brothers.

  • @aruuna3378

Fake love is about faking one self to please the other person. This is not just between lover but also can be parents, friends, siblings or colleagues.
Well actually the whole mv have a meaning and it ties with their BU (bangtan universe) a storyline that goes throughout their mv. The water, fire and even the chocolate bar😂
10:42 here you can see word "save me" on the wall and if you turn it upsidedown it become "I'm fine" and bts have both song name save me and I'm fine😁 Both of the song also ties with each other in lyricism and beats

So to fill you in on the song Fake Love - two parts:
1 - it's in the middle of a series of songs in the Love Yourself album. If you listen to the songs in order it actually goes through the progression of a relationship - from the first meet and falling for (solo songs - Euphoria, Just Dance, and Serendipity) to the point of like our relationship was written in our DNA (group song - DNA) to wondering if this is what love is and getting lost it in (solo songs - Trivia: Love and Singularity) to the realization that you've lost yourself in this relationship and it's become somewhat fake (group song - Fake Love) to breaking up (solo song - Seesaw) and then finding that you're the one you should love (solo song - Epiphany). Then you heal, move on and grow (group song - I'm Fine). And then you land on the conclusion of it all, to love others begins with loving yourself (group song - Answer: Love Yourself).
Honestly, if you read the lyrics of all these songs in order it will blow your mind and melt/rend your heart.
2 - visually, everything you see is part of a series called the Bangtan Universe. There are motifs and symbolism throughout that tie into older music videos from before this (just look up Bangtan Universe playlist and you'll find them in order). But if you watch the videos in order you'll see how they tie into each other and to the older album themes (The Most Beautiful Moment in Life and Wings which was based on the book Damien). The fire with Suga, the water flooding around Jimin, the snickers bars with J-Hope ... all these tie into the BU. It's ingenius and moving and brilliant all at the same time.
    Hope that helps!

Nothing BTS do is ever by chance they are so crazy talented, some of the things you see in their videos will have a meaning behind it. It will be linked in other videos of theirs. Their artistry is just unbelievable. They very rarely sing about women and love, most songs are about their love for each other, their families, music and fans. So very different to West artists who's songs have sexist lyrics BTS don't sing about sex but some of their lyrics may mean that but in different words. They all play a part in writing and producing their songs. It's literally breathtaking how talented they are.

BTS “Mic Drop” (remix) - *Even though it opens up with Japanese-American DJ Steve Aoki‬, the song itself is owned by BigHit(HYBE) / BTS and it was written by BTS Leader “RM” (comes out of ambulance) which was said to be inspired by Obama speeches.* After listening to the track and loved it so much that Steve collabed with BTS to make a remix version of their original song “Mic Drop” (which is in Korean) and got featured in their music video. He does get credit for the remix on top of being in the MV, there’s also another remix with ‪Desiigner‬ voice played in the background in the intro of the video. *FUN FACTS: Almost everything used is REAL except maybe the floating mics and firey debri after literally blowing up a car behind them which took them abit to film that scene until they were more comfortable and focused with continuing to the end.*
Just to let you know they are not saying the western used “N” word it only sounds like it, the “Nega” word in their language means “I” or “I’m” in Korean. Everyone who doesn’t understand abit about the language and meanings when they hear that word; which is very commonly used allot in the asian culture. It’s NOT the same as the another “N” word that a lot of westerners got too comfortable hearing or saying then assuming automatically when they hear it from a foreigner that’s what they mean but in this case it has nothing to do with black people at all. *In some foreign languages/cultures, commonly used western words will sound similar but have different meanings* #BTS #MicDrop

[8:38] in Fake Love there is the all important Elements with the members (bracket information is from other videos regarding them) :
Jin with the Earth - the sand that grows the flower that he tries - and fails - to protect
( Jin has the thing also with water when he makes the rain rise up instead of falling down.. But that is not his Element that is his Power. ;D)
Jimin with the Water (like this boy gets wet under the umbrella ! ;D)
Jungkook with the Air - when he creates from the sand the flower petals to fly in his Element (also the boy likes to be on the rooftops)
Suga with Fire (like don't Never give that boy a lighter!) (Also everything was in fire in Mic Drop, even the darn sky!)
and J-hope with Snickers. (Yeah snickers bar :=( )

BTS members and their in-house team usually produced and wrote their own songs.
There are 3 Rappers (RM, Suga & J-Hope) and 4 Vocalists (Jin, Jimin, V & Jungkook).
RM (Leader, Rapper, Producer, Lyricist) is one of the songwriters for Fake Love which can refer to a love/hate relationship between partners, friends and family or about self-acceptance and self-love.

This song is about faking yourself in order to recibe love , even from yourself.
This song is part of the “love yourself “ series of their albums. This is the part when the person got realize that was loosing themselves in orden to get love ( any kind of love ), that part is covered by the whole album where this song is the title track which is “love yourself: tear”. The first part was love yourself : wonder which is just a short film that connect with their fictional story line and introduce their song euphoria( is about the introduction of love ) later is love yourself: her which is a mini album that’s the part where is the development of love ( so most of the songs had really romantic and uthopic lyrics about love ) their title track is “DNA” which you will see the connection with fake love Mv, later is love yourself: tear , which represent the turn of the love which is a whole full album and most of the songs are about that. And later is “love yourself: answer “ which is a compilation album of love yoursef her and tear but with a few new songs , this represent the conclusion of the relationship which means in orden to give TRUE love you have to love yourself first, the title track and MV is IDOL which also is connected with fake love and DNA MVs ( cuz it’s the same scenario but is changing according to the part that represent of the series).
So DNA Mv is first later fake love and last IDOL Mv.
So BtS in this series explain how they end up with that conclusion , their leader and main songwriter said “ this is the conclusion that we got but that doesn’t mean is the right one” meaning that anyone should find their own.
So in their next series “map of the soul” they explain HOW to love every part of themselves.
Groups weren’t talking about this issues much , until BtS became big so I think is a really good influence.

BTS’s Fake Love lyrics recount the feelings of a person who has given everything for love and has even hidden his true emotions so that happiness reigns in a relationship, however that has not been enough because the other person does not do his best. part.
According to the members of BTS, the meaning of Fake Love is that it is not enough to give love, but you have to be true to yourself so that love is lasting, otherwise this feeling will end soon.
When someone falls in love and is not true to themselves, love tends to be very short-lived.

  • @ellie_jeann

BTS “Fake Love” - In my opinion they bring more of a calmer but dark pastel concept with upbeat bass tempo, display their deep emotion and it follows their HYYH Storyline which leads from "Boy Meets Evil" and "Blood Sweat Tears", Wings Era etc. *The scene with JK running, the floor does REALLY drop and the phone turning into sand in V's hand was special effects.* This comeback releasing their ‘Love Yourself : TEAR’ album, which they wrote title track that talks about fake love where they realize the love they felt was fake but it’s NOT TRUE. So, they express their pain and grief in the MV about loving yourself and/or someone else. In their title track “DNA” during previous comeback they show that we’re all somehow connected by our DNA. THE WORDS ON THE WALL BEHIND V SAYS “I’M FINE” BUT IN FLIPPED OVER IT TURNS INTO “SAVE ME” WHICH IS PREVIOUS SONG THAT LEADS THROUGH THIS INTO THEIR “I’M FINE” TRACK (no official mv). #DNA #FakeLove #BTS

Please do realize that BTS started as a hiphop group. They always loved rap and rnb and hiphop, youll find that especially in their earlier albums and releases. But as the years went by, they slowly tried other genres, and now have proven to be versatile in any genre you put them. BTS has been the door that opened me to old school hiphop and made me love and appreciate rap a lot, so I especially thank BTS for that. I hope you can see more of their rap and rnb and hiphop centered songs! Very dope reaction, certainly subscribed to yall.

Thanks for having an open mind. BTS has often been referred to as their own genre (they cross multiple genres and fused them together: EMD, rock, emo rock, ballad, rap, R& B, Jazz, Latin pop, pop, hip hop, urban, moombahton, trap, dance-pop, funk, etc.). They sing in Korean, Japanese, & English. They have won numerous musical awards domestically and internationally and are Grammy-nominated artists. They are known for their deep lyrics (remember to keep the caption on).
"Fake Love" as others have mentioned follows the BTS Univers (BU), a fictional storyline based on the 7 members that run throughout many of their videos (it's an ongoing storyline-very dark and tragic, with themes that are very serious( hidden under an amazing beat and video, full of visual symbolism): domestic violence, murder, self-identity/realization/love, suicide, etc.) and that is why you all were feeling intense emotions without realizing what was happening. It's another rabbit hole to research, lol. Please do more BTS and enjoy your journey!

    FAKE LOVE ANSWERS FOR YALL:
RM (leader/rapper) is one of the main songwriters/lyricists for this song and he explained, *"We're saying that if you're not true to yourself, your love won't last forever. The love could be person to person, it could be between me and myself."*
so while the main impression many would get from the song is the relationship type of fake love, there are also listeners like me who don't relate to that, but relate to it from the self-love POV. the way we fake it and try to be something we're not so that we feel good on the outside, but deep down it destroys ourselves. (another point as to why the fandom is so huge and diverse since their music really caters to all kinds of listeners)

Mic Drop Remix was my very first kpop mv. BTS is definitely amazing and you'll love all of their stuff. Blackswan is my favorite song of theirs.
As for Fake Love definitely an emotional song. With the lyrics and a certain scene in the mv it made me feel as if they were talking about some of their fandom, and how their love is fake towards the group. Not respecting their space or feelings.

fake love is a beautiful song. The song is sad but the story behind the mv's is heartbreaking. Those chocolates, fire, water, floor falling, and everything you see in the mv connect to their BTS Universe storyline and it always fascinates me every time they release an mv that drops hints. BTS artistry is phenomenal, that's why they are so damn successful!

I know it has been long overdue but I still want to emphasize the features in this reaction video, especially during Fake Love. They are all somehow related to their 'grievances' from the lore.
    - Suga set himself on fire before, w/c caused him to die.
    - V called RM (he didn't answer. which haunts V to this day) when he had to murd3r his father and he was asking for RM's help.
    - J-Hope was in an amusement park set-up, where his mother abandoned him as a child and the Snickers bar was the only - food his mother left for him that day.
    - Jin's constant time travelling to save his friends but failing every time.
    - Jimin's death by drowning due to su!cide.
    - Namjoon's constant struggle against himself because he feels responsible of the situation his friends and V was put in.
    - Jungkook realizing the repetition of time and trying to aid Jin in saving their friends.
