R6 Mark 1 doesn't have a 1.6x crop when shooting 4k60, it's an insignificant 1.07x crop and applies to all 4k frame rates, including 24 & 30 fps. It's only applies a 1.6x crop when enabling "Movie Cropping", which puts it into APS-C Mode, good for when you quickly need more reach out of a lens without losing much details.
Excellent review...I am looking to purchase my first mirrorless camera...have settled on either the R6 or the R6 mk 2...(currently shoot with a Canon 80D, which I love and will keep.) I have been leaning more towards the mk 2 as its newer with minor improvements. However, upon seeing your review I may have to reconsider that. I am primarily a photographer so the video functions don't concern me. Wildlife and sports are not high on my list, so this really pulls the R6 into the lead. Sounds to me like the R6 is as good (less pixels however) as the R6 mk 2, but at a more reasonable price point. Maybe I can find a decent R6 used...at an even better price point. Can you make any suggestions for lenses? Primarily for street and architecture photography. My Canon 80D has the EFS 17-55 2.8 on it most of the time.
The ef-s 17-55 f2.8 is soft for a new generation lens. Therefore, you can find many lenses to enhance the image quality. After buying the r6 maybe the rf 24-105 f4 will suit your needs. There is also the rf 50 f1.8stm which is also very good. Alternatively, if you always use your camera indoors, you could also try the rf 35 f1.8stm.
Great review ! Thanks so much. One thing though. You said the R6 mk1 is 20-30% lighter, but I am researching their weight and apparently there is no difference?
Thats a great review. Very useful, thanks. Im hoping to get one of these cameras for wildlife/bird photography (using with a Canon EF-R adapter and a Canon 500mm f4 lens). Are you able to recommend one over the other? Ive seen an R6 mki used for £1200, with under 1000 actuations and the going rate, new for the R6MKII is around £2700; but ive seen a couple, used, around the £1700 mark. Again, thanks for the review. 🦉👍🏻
smaller sensor means smaller file size on mark 1 which let you shoot more on same buffer......larger sensor on mark 2 produces larges file size which limits both the time you can shoot continuously and the number of images you can shoot in a burst......and that's true for every high megapixel camera.
it’s so close. the r6 Mk ii has 4k 60 but the a7 4 has a higher res sensor. if I had to pick I would say Sony for photos canon for video . in this specific case
Thank you so much for this video. I recently purchased an R10 and two of its small RF-s lenses for upcoming travel by air. But I have "gotten the bug" and am looking to get a second camera for landscapes, sports (especially hockey) and wildlife around my immediate area. I have no intention of doing video, but I do expect to shoot in lower-light conditions, so the R6 looks like the best choice for me based on price and yes your informative, recent video. Thank you so much!
The one thing I hoped you cover in the video aspect of the cameras is if both have a headphone out jack or not as such detail is a game changer for videographers.
Great video! I love my R6, right now my #2 camera is the Canon 6D, it's a workhorse! I am 99% photographer for 40 years. I now have a few video shoot lined up! Wish me luck!!
I am in the process of testing it. its going to be a few months of testing atleast. But I already have alot to say. So far I would say I ony recommend that camera to a serious shooter or cinematic film maker. it is not a camera i think casual shooters will enjoy
I am surprised you didn’t mention overheating or recording limits. This is where the video specs on the R6 MKii blows the R6 original out of the water. I own both but when I know I am going to be shooting video I bring out the R6 MK II and leave the R6i at home
I bought both og your courses and now I can't get access to them because every time I go to the site its trying to resell me the courses instead of letting me log in. how do you fix this.
Kindly make a video on best video camera stating the difference between Canon EOS R7 vs Eos R8. Retailers are pushing to buy R8 by telling it's better than R7 & as per retailer R8 has powerful flagship processor so it will produce stunning videos which are better than R7. Kindly guide me as I choose R7 by watching your video which you made stating best video camera for beginners. But you didn't discuss about Canon r8 in that video. Kindly make a video stating the difference between canon R7 & R8. For video purpose which is best camera? Pricing of R8 & R7 is almost same.
I went with the R6 because I didn't shoot video at the time, but the R6's 30 minute limit killed me when I started shooting video and had to get an Atmos Ninja V.
@@TechThroughTheLensyeah I'm sorry about that, not sure what came over me. Judged prematurely. Would you like me to remove my comment? Or should I leave it to attest my sillyness?

Yeah I was surprised that as well. It's crop is insignificant. Not sure how he came up with that spec.
The low battery indicator stresses me out 😂 Thanks for the video though, finally thinking about upgrading to an R body and the R6 meets all my desires
Glad I could help. and yah honestly i feel the same when i see those clips

i agree. but its not a fact i think most people realize
No? It’s up to how good the processor and how big the buffer is…
If both share those and ONLY the mp changes? yes.
Great Video, I would like to ask your advice for which of canon's cameras would be best for lots of action shots air shows etc? Asking in May of 2024.
Great video ! thank you. What about overheating / which one is worse ? Many thanks !

I did get any overheating on my end and i tried several times.
This is the answer i was looking for. Glad to know i should update to the m2 because the overheating was too much on the r6.
How long do you record for before it overheats in M1 vs M2???
@@vwapatriyotla2322 R6 has a recording limit of 29:59 for all formats and framerates. The R6 MII has no limit for 4K 30.

If you have budget for MkII you buy MkII, done, question answered.
In reality nobody needs such a buffer in this camera category.
