The looks on the devs faces throughout this are priceless. I wonder how it feels to know there's a whole community dedicated to finding ways to break your game to go fast 😂
TheRixer brought me here after I saw his analysis on Jeremy's speedrun. Loved the Spyro games on PS1 when I was 9 years old. Keep doing the wonderful work.
Incredible work! Amazing skips and great insight from Ted, Brian and John. Would love to see more of these videos; the double jump is gonna blow their minds even more when they get to Spyro 2.
CrystalFissure they already knew the double jump existed though, considering they fixed it for the Japanese release of Spyro 2 and all releases of Spyro 3.
Just want to note guys, while some of you might take some of these skips and glitches as personal hits to your programming resume, all of those skips make for a really amazing and fun game. Spyro 2 especially, the charge jump adds so much depth to the game. So, thank you!
Wait am I seeing this right? Is the game industry actaully paying attention to the fans. Shows their awareness of how their games are still played is honest. Speedrunning feature in the remake? Yes please. Leaderboards.... oh baby
Broderick Siz Presumably they would have to in order for the game to feel right.... wouldny it be nice if they accounted for it though? So the jump in Glimmer over the map would lead to another harder area... :D
You turned it into Crystal Meth Islands! But I have to say: wow. I knew some of these bugs were a thing, like swim in air and zombie mode, but I've never seen them implemented like this... incredible. Thanks for taking one of my favorite games to play as a kid and showing just how much it can be broken.
Man, as an aspiring game dev, one thing i'm looking forward to are speedruns of my games. I find it so fascinating just how much the player community invest itself to break down every single aspect of a game!
If you haven't heard of it before, you would enjoy reading the website "The Cutting Room Floor". It's a wiki specifically dedicated to documenting removed and unused content from video games, mostly leftover (but unused) data left on the game discs and also early development builds and such.
DELTARYZ I mean... I actually wrote most of the pages on The Cutting Room Floor relating to Spyro 3 hahahah. But I appreciate you telling me anyway and I would advise anyone else to go visit it!
Thanks, Matt, for the controls. They're great! By the way, for anyone else interested: www.gamestm.co.uk/features/holiday-gift-guide-the-best-of-the-vault-2016/ In this article they mention Mr. Whiting. The more you know...
Was completely worth watching this live. I usually don't care about livestreams, but it's nice to have a chance to get your questions answered or push for questions you'd like answered, at least. Glad they gave us all a little bit of trivia about the Spyro series. I mean, now we know they never intended to create a Spring homeworld in Spyro 2.
The Spyro OG trilogy means an unbelievable amount to me, and has done for 25 years now. To see the OG developers revisit games that have followed me into my 30s brings me so much joy!
Thank you Insomniac for making Spyro. Playing Spyro 1 - 3 as a child was what kept me happy when I had a terrible childhood. Till this day its one of the best ways to make me happy even though now that i'm grown, playing Spyro makes my mind go back to when the world was a smaller place and it was just me and Spyro. Thank you so much.
Lol, I like how the couple of devs they got to sit in were mostly speechless and straining to remember all they could, given what roles they had in development. In their defense, this wasn't just almost 20 years ago now, but it was almost 20 years ago when, just a year after Spyro 2 they got out a third and (for them) final game in one of the best 90s platformer trilogies. I know many folks (myself included) debate on what the best Spyro game is in the original trilogy, but nostalgia-wise, Spyro 3 was for me the best time I had on the PS1 as a kid, alongside klonoa and Tomba! 2
Amazing. I bet it's weird to watch your game get destroyed like this. I have such fond memories of this game. It's fun to see someone who has put so much time in it, and who clearly loves the games.... I just wish he would clarify that when he says "broken" he doesn't mean it as a negative. Looking forward to the remake!
Daily Dungeonists I don’t suppose you have ever heard of people ageing well, have you? Because however young these people may seem to you, they are indeed the developers.
If you want to see something similar a few years back Doublefine has a "Devs Play" series on their channel, they did a special where they brought a runner in to just go ham on Psychonauts. they cut out some parts for time so its not a full run like this but its still really fun to watch
I can imagine the developers were really shocked seeing their game being absurdly broken but I hope they didn't get a negative feeling about it. Speedrunners are some of the most dedicated people to games, even if it consists on breaking it. You basically play the same game over and over again for months. You HAVE to enjoy it to do it consistently. Also, it's amazing to see Insomniac interacting with their community, things like these (apart from the high quality games and all the childhood memories) are what makes you guys one of the best companies I know
I would be if Spyro wasn't made with a different personality...all in all I would have accepted his new color of a body if he was made after the original Spyros actual feelings and beliefs.
ThaRixer made me aware of this video and I must say I absolutely adore Insomniac for this. It is 10/10 what I want from Devs. I wish all of them were this open and cool.
This was so awesome to watch. Spyro 3 was a fundamental part of my childhood, and this is video is so special to me in many, many ways. The speedrun community is mind-blowing. Thank you guys, and thanks to Insomniac developers too.
No. Way. I watch Jeremy as much as I can (I'm a lurker tho). Really chill streamer with an exceptionally level head. I never thought I'd see him playing with insomniace them selves o.O That is awesome
Zombie seems the most plausible thing to discover. Pausing when dying seems pretty logical. The other shit he's doing is wayyyyyyy less plausible to discover.
This is so cool! Love seeing the devs reaction to the glitches :D Spyro was probably the most defining console game of my childhood, so this whole thing just makes me really happy. I'm crazy excited for the remake.
Haha, I remember trying to get "zombie mode" as a kid and the way of knowing you'd done it correctly is that the controller would rumble like crazy when you paused on the right frame. I always used it at Fireworks Factory to show off the out-of-bounds stuff in Evening Lake to my friends.
Those guys seem so embarrassed by all the glitches. You don't need to make excuses guys, it was a very different era for gaming, you did what you could, we get it, no one thinks any less of you, no games are free from glitches.
Someone should tell the devs that this isn’t to show how bad the game is broken. That’s not the intent, relax and enjoy. I’m sure from a Developers perspective, they’d enjoy 100% runs more.
wish the speedrunner talked a bit mroe with the devs like dude you play this game constantly for like 4 years and are sitting next to the dude who created it lol
@@spyder256 there's this thing you haven't heard of that's called being personable and showing gratitude to and admiration for the developers who created the game that is the only thing he is notable for doing in life.

The game that turned Insomniac from decent developers, to superb game designers.
It was literally their first franchise, MAJOR shame they sold it. Same with crash, Jake and daxter, sly cooper... I hate how great games get sold off
