  • Today we look at how to drain a shower waste with a macerator. I've already covered installing the pipe in the loft part 1 of this series.
We're installing a Stuart Turner Lifting Station macerator pump to the shower waste, allowing us to pump waste water from the shower tray to the soil stack in another part of the house.

Great video James, would have liked to see the 22mm pipe run install from the loft into the stack as well.

Was fitting a grundfos macerator last week and whilst glueing a bit pipe up, standard style..., and the brush lightly licked off the pipe, managed to flick a bit glue in to my yak 🥴, first time in 24 years in the trade!. And I must say I’ve always loved the effects of solvent glue man, I hopped up, broke in to a wee spontaneous dance/shimmy type situ, I felt alive for a brief time again😜

Any idea what the maintenance will be? Shower waste is full of soap/hair.

Why did you put a another soil stack outside on the garage wall, then a new drain run to manhole cover. A bit more work, but long term a better job as no pumps ect... Involved.

It was discussed but the old man didn’t want the block paving taken up. I’d have done the same I think.

Did you get written confirmation from stuart turner regarding the outlet in 22mm? The manual says the outlet should be in 32mm or damage will occur. A rep on the phone saying it's ok wont help you in the event of a warranty claim unless you have written proof they say it's ok.
Also from the diagram of where the outlet runs, it looks like it comes up into the loft from the garage, then across, then up into the main loft in the house and across into the stack, I havent done a stuart turner LS before but simlar saniflo ones only allow you to go up once, as soon as you go horizontal, you have to remain horizontal, if the Stuart Turner allows multiple rises then that will be good to know.
One last thing, the film you removed off the tray to test the water, every tray I've installed (100's) say to remove the film and check the tray for imperfections prior to installation, I've seen it all to many times where the film is left on as a protective layer (dont know why as it's not protecting anything) only to remove the film and see a manufacturer defect, but as the tray has been installed its deemed acceptable so no claim and installer out of pocket. Always remove the film first, check the tray, install and then use your own protective layer.

I was told by ST and Saniflo that hep20(or similar pipe) wasn’t allowed due to sagging so rigid pipe only must be used on the outlet?

I just installed a wc3 Stuart Turner, and you can go vertical ones after that you need a slight downward slope as it's not under pressure anymore

Jumbo . Loved the tip about I so by expanding foam under the shower tray. Quick question, does the wooden chipboard floor need sealing with PVA first ?

    Great vid. mate - subbed.
Would this be a solution to waste disposal in a garden room I'm thinking of building?
The plot is 60ft from the house and 'm thinking of having a shower, wc and sink in it but it's a bit complicated as the garden room floor will sit lower than the house by about a foot because we're on a hill

My shower drain pump is loud it sounds like the washing machine pump just after it's drained, It's just been installed along with the shower thinking of having the floorboards removed and replacing it. This system sounds ideal.
