I purchased the Sun Oven Preparedness/ Dehydrator package which came with those wonderful pots, dehydrator trays, parchment paper and the water purifying device (wapi). I love cooking with this sun oven. It is well made and easy to use.
You can sterilize empty canning jars, but it is not safe to can in a Sun Oven. Just like in your home oven the dry heat is very slow in penetrating into jars of food and does not convey heat the same way that hot water does. The temperature will vary according to the amount of sunlight and how often the Sun Oven is aligned to follow the sun which so you cannot be sure that canning in a Sun Oven is safe so we do not recommend using your Sun Oven for canning.
So what happens to the box if in the middle of cooking you're at church, it's silent prayer, and the sky opens and it starts sprinkling? What happens if that sprinkle turns into a deluge?
You can use any pot in the SUN OVEN, but if you're using a stainless steel pot w/lid then you'll need to put a dark towel over the lid so that the sun doesn't reflect off the lid & go out of the oven.
I've managed to stop buying gasoline for about three years now with the help of a electric recumbent bike I built , maybe I can do more to help the planet by the use of a solar cooker ! I wish I had enough solar panels to cover my roof of my house.

We recommend applying linseed oil to the wood ever 2 years to keep the wood in good condition.

The Sun Oven will survive! It's made to take the weather. Rain and water will not damage it. Just wipe it off when you get a chance.

were they only $250 9 years ago? wow, they are over $400 now :(
