Love the walking bass line in the chorus. I used to warm up by combining that bass line with the chorus bass line in face values by the suicide machines. Definitely a fun warm up when sped up double time!
1995, Cleveland Ohio - Out Come the Wolves Tour. Back in High School. It was my first punk rock show. I remember that night like it was yesterday. They sounded so good; it changed my life.
He makes it look so easy... I struggled a lot with all the Rancid Basslines I learnt over the years, but the style, the flow, the tone, the sound.. It is unmatched!! Thank you Matt!! Huge inspiration for me an to a lot of punk bass players all around the world!!
Thanks for this Matt! Lived in Oly for 7 years, met my wife there, and ended up following her to Connecticut. Love her and our kids, but there is a part of me that does wish I was on the highway back to Olympia.
Saw your acoustic there on the corner and I thought it'd be nice to see you rock along to one of the tunes you play the big guy. Lady Liberty, Devil's Dance or something from Devil's Brigade would be sick!
@@iocat I think Olympia, WA and Roots Radical came really close to the #1 spot. These are my two most heard songs by far since I became a fan few years ago
Just to underline how lucky we truly are here. We're not only getting to see a fantastic bassist at work, but also a bass (upclose and in focus) that is effectively retired (from touring at least). Keep 'em coming Matt!
Love these videos, I listened to this album non stop back in 2005, I’m primarily a drummer but I fucking loved the bass on And out Come The Wolves!! I wrote the lyrics, guitar, drums, and bass for a song that, at the time, my 20 year old self just just wanted to write a song for Rancid 😂 Anyway this is not a plug, because I couldn’t care if no one listened to it, its kind of a tribute if anything to Matt and the guys Song is called Where Have You Been, the band is Stop The Lights Thanks for the music Matt 🙌
You thanked smashing pumpkins!!!!! dude I freaking love you. You as in rancid and smashing pumpkins my number one favorite bands. Oh Matt you are the freaking best!!!!
That song was always my favourite. And since Rancid is my favourite band, I could say this song is my favourite above all songs ever created by anyone anywhere. If you disagree, you´re wrong.
What a killer video for me to stumble upon. You write the best bass lines in punk music, period. Hard to express how much your music meant in my teen years in the 90s.
I remember being in the bedroom of my apartment when I first put my copy of Aoctw into my CD player. In a way it really sucks because I was spoiled from such a young age. Never found anything better than rancid.
I missed you guys in Portland because parking and traffic logistics around the venue were beyond ridiculous. Hoping for a proper Rancid gig at Roseland at some point. Please comeback soon.
This record was so influential to me. A culture shock of the world “punk rock” true to my era. Your bass playing inspired me to stick to bass and truly try to learn as much as possible. Thank you 🙏
Thanks for making these, Matt, rock on! I love this song, ...And Out Come the Wolves is one of my all-time favorite albums. We have one great live video of it I've seen on youtube, but would still love to see you do a Bass Bunker session on Maxwell Murder!
Matt F'N Freeman ! I'm 66 and been listen to you guys for a zillion years . Been to a lot of live shows , one of the best bass players of all times . Raised my son on Rancid . Like the Bunker Sessions , keep it up .
Wished Olympia and journey to the end coulda sneaked into the Detroit set list last month 😢 but still had a great time seeing you guys it’s been a long time, very surreal seeing you play giant arenas.
Thanks Matt for another amazing video hope you had great time on tour hope you can come back to the UK soon Would love to see you play Who Would've Thought ,Cocktails ,Leicester Square or Fall Back Down but i love all of em anyway Cheers
So cool i've found this channel Matt. I won't blow smoke up your ass but you were a huge inspiration to my bass playing in the 90's, doing punk gigs here in UK,coming up to London seeing you play plus many others so just like to say thank you for being a highlight of my life. Cheers mate 👍
Saw you guys in Charlotte on the tour and the set was so killer. Last time I saw Rancid was at the same place on the Warped Tour way back in like '03. You guys haven't missed a beat!
Thanks Matt for the bass bunker and sharing your time and talent with all of us. I was just starting high school when ...And out come the wolves came out. One of my favorite albums 👊. Rancid wouldn't be Rancid with out them awesome bass lines man. Thank you.
Just tried playing this with my friend this afternoon, and now I see this video. Great stuff, it's a joy to watch you having so much fun playing this awesome number. It's almost 30 years old, can you imagine?
I'm a huge rancid fan and I love the bass bunker playthroughs, but I am curious on how you come up with the basslines. Maybe a video doing a deeper dive into your writing process would be cool. I'm probably not the only one who would enjoy that lol, but anyway thank you and the rest of rancid for all the great music over the years.
I bought tickets to a Rancid concert, Green Day just happened to be playing too. Had such a great time at the show, and the Linda Linda’s were awesome! Pumpkins were alright. And I must say, I was impressed with Green Day. They know how to put on an entertaining performance. Another great video! Hope there’s lots to come
Awesome man. That is one of my favorite songs of yours to play. By watching you do it, looks like I got it about 90% accurate. Such a fun song to play. I also really love playing other side as a finally. So much energy in that one. Love ya matt. Keep em coming.
Great playing as always. And Out Come The Wolves remains one of my favorite albums of all time. Was so happy to see you guys live again in Nashville last month. I get the feeling that this song is one of Rancid's favorites to play live. Is that true? You all have played it every show I've seen.
Still my #1 album of all time. This album took me from a listen of music to a player of music. Thanks Matt
Exceptional G,C,D chord progression!!!!
Yea that song never gets old, after all these years. Cheers!
One of the absolute favourite albums of all time. Still rocks….
I loved it so much i actually burned it into 2 other cds in case i lose the original.
I love how Matt cant help but smile while playing along to 30 year old songs. Rancid the greatest punk band.
That album was ALL killer and no filler
No he said it was “And Out Come the Wolves”. All Killer No Filler was Sum 41.

I learned bass by listening to this album and playing along, couldn't have had a better teacher.
Same here brother. Especially Journey to the end, lock step and Old friend
@AntoineGuinard-w2c Yeah, I love playing Old Friend too. Great song. Will have to learn more songs off this iconic album.
"Welcome back to Matt Freeman's bass bucker.. I'm Matt Freeman" professional newscaster at his finest!! 😂😂😂
"The greatest bass player in the world right there... MFF!"
I can't believe Out Come the Wolves is almost 30 years old... doesn't feel possible. I can't imagine what it must feel like for you!
Matt definitely giving that Tony Bennett vibe, you can hear the happiness/smile in the bass lines.
Love the walking bass line in the chorus. I used to warm up by combining that bass line with the chorus bass line in face values by the suicide machines. Definitely a fun warm up when sped up double time!
Dude thanks for this whole project. I swear it's a prime example of what the internet was for. Ya know we love ya!

My first band used to cover this. Such a fun song to play.
Thanks for this Matt!

The bass line for the chorus is so fun to play. I’ve covered this song with friends before.

My favourite Rancid track
This might be my favourite song of the band
If you ever want to torture yourself, try to pick your top 5 rancid songs. I have like 20 songs figuring for a spot on that list!

This is one of my favourite Rancid bass lines. Love playing along to this one.

Thanks for stayin alive Matt...just keep L-I-V-I-N
Off of one of the most perfect albums made - front to back, all bangers.
Hard to express how much I love this song nevermind how great that bassline is, love listening to it, love playing it. Fucking awesome.
Reminding me of my teenage years
The tune named after my home. Used to hear this all the time in the nineties because we lived in Oly Wa.
