I hear the Sandinista comparison a lot to LWW but I always liked think of it more like London Calling because it experiments and changes genres like LC but it’s not bloated and excessive. Don’t get me wrong, I love all three.
Definitely their London calling. Sandinista has a ton of half baked ideas that go nowhere. Life won’t wait feels not only complete but well produced mixed and all that other shit I don’t know about.
Matt is so humble. He’s an amazing bass player. Hearing him switch things up, instead of just doing the same thing over and over (even though the original is still amazing) shows how passionate he is when it comes to music.
got into Rancid with "sidekick" on punk-o-rama 2, out come the wolves was great, started playing bass and then the amazing LIFE WON'T WAIT was released! So much great bass in that album, Matt Freeman's Rancid bass masterwork in my opinion and hands down my fave rancid album. This song is an album highlight for me too, great video!
We all grew up a bunch of metal heads and punks in the 90s where I lived. One thing was always agreed on. Matt was a superior bassist to most guys around then. No matter if you listened to Oxymoron or At The Gates
@@sebg2086 But I've also seen finger style bassists with leather hard calluses on their fingertips play like they had 4 picks on their hand. Check out Billy Sheehan.
Thank Matt! I really hope you guys of rancid make a tour plying you 30 years of you best. We need that, 2h of pure rancid show. This album is a really classic for me one of best of rancid.
Huge fan of yours Matt. You are in my top 3 bassists that inspired me including Geddy Lee and Victor Wooten. Can you do a video describing what it was like playing bass with Brett and Brandon and adjusting to a new drummer?
Thank you again for making these videos. The time you take for your fans and for your love of music is just astonishing. Keep making them. I'll keep watching them
When the world turns on me I always have rancid when I got the music I have a place to go thank you guys been with you since 94 I was ten you guys gave me hope
That's a wonderful bassline. Fantastic melody and movement. And that comment about enjoying bass is exactly what I need to hear. I'm one of those chumps who grinds away at stuff that I'm not good at instead of just enjoying what I am good at.
Saw you guys play this in Detroit the other week. Great show really strange seeing you guys in an arena it was surreal , loved it. But in my opinion journey to the end should never leave the set list 😂
wow, thank you for taking the time to make this video even during touring that’s incredibly selfless. i’m really glad i got to see this one live this year, it’s always very well done ❤
Hello Matt, could you please talk to us about your double neck guitar behind you ? Thanks for sharing, love watching your videos, playing an instrument should always be a pleasure !
Mr. Freeman sir thank you for taking the time of which you don’t really have at the moment being home for one day and all. Had to be one of my faves of this album. You speak of Mr. Brett Reed, do you or the band have any days where you miss your old mate? Or is this a take the high road question? If it is I apologize. And yes that was an OP IVY song, one of my favorite bass lines of all time. Thank you again sir, for all you do for us. From a US Navy veteran.
You guys completely rocked Queens, New York! Hearing everyone singing along to Olympia WA was beautiful. I can't believe I got to see two of my three all-time bass heroes on the same night with yourself and Mike Dirnt (Duff #3) I think the channel is perfect and it's so refreshing having a bass channel to tune into. Thank you Matt!!!
Saw y'all in Austin the other week. Great show. While "soothing" isn't the word I'd describe Rancid's musical output, there's something very soothing about watching you play bass - the way you make playing seem effortless and, at the same time, you appear to be absorbed in the joy of playing songs you must have played thousands of times is inspiring.
Awesome, Matt! I'm glad to see you back in the bass bunker, getting a little rest before going out on the road again. I heard you guys rocked it in Austin. I was looking forward to that show, but sadly, I broke five ribs a couple of days before and had to cancel the trip. But thanks for this song. I would love to hear Black Derby Jacket.
I really like the extra bits at the end of your video. Its nice to get some sound advice from one of the musicians that made me want to play the bass. I have to relearn a bunch of songs that are around 10 years old maybe more. The first listen, I was like well I have no idea how I did that. Nice to hear songs evolve.
There are so many Rancid-Songs that might be considered "fillers", (this particular one for example bc it's on Life wont wait and not on Rancid2000). But given a closer listen, you really brighten exactly these songs up so much with ypur lines! Genius!
Matt - I bought your green Fender P-Bass when you did your Reverb store. I was hoping you might be able to fill me in on any details you might remember like if/what did you record with it, which tours you took it on if any? Big fan all the way from OpIv to Charger and am stoked to have it.
Going to the seattle show for my sibling's 12th 💙 it's her first show! Dont want to ask for much but would be awesome if we could maybe get a pick or setlist!!
Brandon is a great drummer, but there was something about Brett Reeds style that was a bit more unique. Probably technically not as good but I miss him being in Rancid. Hasn't felt the same since.
"I'm not John Entwistle" no you're Matt Fucking Freeman! Legend praising a legend
the rancid sandinista i literally think this album is one of the best ever
Life Won't Wait is definitely Rancid's Sandinista. By far my favorite Rancid record.
Life Won't Wait is Rancid's London Calling. They never went as fas as a Sandinista
I hear the Sandinista comparison a lot to LWW but I always liked think of it more like London Calling because it experiments and changes genres like LC but it’s not bloated and excessive. Don’t get me wrong, I love all three.
@@rasicomegamy fav as well

a million years of touring out and still having a blast. Love it. Thank you Mr. Freeman for the tunes and the good times.
The who feels is there for sure 👍🏻 chills all over❤❤❤❤❤
Matt love the humility but you def belong in the convo with Entwistle, John Paul Jones, Jamerson, Jaco, Claypool, whoever. World class bassist.
probly because of the pick..... more easy to look good when you play with a pick....also way easy to play fast
@@sebg2086 But I've also seen finger style bassists with leather hard calluses on their fingertips play like they had 4 picks on their hand. Check out Billy Sheehan.
5:28 yep thats Officer by Op Ivy😂
Imagine writing so many amazing base lines, that you don't even realize you're playing one of your songs until after you played it.
I remember seeing this live back in Richmond in 2021! Great song at a great show
Rancid need to do more gigs in England soon please please please 👏👏❤️🎸
Love the switch ups you thru in there!😁🙌
Dude, Life Won't Wait is honestly one of the best albums of all time (in my opinion!). Love it!
I love ya matt. You f'ing rule. My inspiration as a bassist for sure. Listening to you since '89 brother. Thanks for the years
Phenomenal!
Awesome! Love the videos Matt!
Thank Matt!
I really hope you guys of rancid make a tour plying you 30 years of you best. We need that, 2h of pure rancid show.

Second this! 🤜🏻
One of my favorire albums! Never got the credit that it deserved.
I bet you have a ton of fun playing this one live!
What a f legend
Sounds great
Matt Freeman rips! 🤘❤️
Run and aaaa ruuunnn
It'd be rad to hear you play that upright after you get back from the tour!
Huge fan of yours Matt. You are in my top 3 bassists that inspired me including Geddy Lee and Victor Wooten. Can you do a video describing what it was like playing bass with Brett and Brandon and adjusting to a new drummer?
the legend, the mith, you are one of the greatest bass players on this generation Matt. keep doing what you love
(It’s myth yo)

Life Won’t Wait is a masterpiece of a record! Love to see how much fun you have playing this one.

The way the facial expression changes every time he starts playing!!
“I want to have what (s)he’s having!”
Life won't wait is favorite album! A mix of so many styles! I'm stoked to be seeing ya'll in San Diego!
Your face expression says: 1998 Matt, you brilliant bastard!
Appreciate you Matt my Bass messiah.
Love the original but love seeing you put the 2024 flair on it maybe even more 😮😮😮
shout out brett reed! definitely inspired me to play drums.
One of the funkiest bass players
i love you bro 🤟🤟🤟
I always loved how huge this song sounds on the record. Sounds like there are 12 people playing on it.
My fav rancid album and best album cover ever
Looking forward to seeing you in Portland in a couple days Matt. You're my favorite punk bass player of all time!
Think you could do a song on that upright bass once you're back in the bunker full time? Maybe an old Devil's Brigade song?
2:26 ここカッコ良すぎる
As the new Offspring song says: Come To Brazil!
When the world turns on me I always have rancid when I got the music I have a place to go thank you guys been with you since 94 I was ten you guys gave me hope

I enjoyed hearing this song last weekend at Sofi in Los Angeles, you guys killed it.
That tone.
Saw you guys play this in Detroit the other week. Great show really strange seeing you guys in an arena it was surreal , loved it. But in my opinion journey to the end should never leave the set list 😂
Thanks for the tips and insights, Matt. They are really appreciated.
Awesome video as always Matt.. Australian tour please!!! It's been sooo long, life won't wait!
When you guys played this in Pittsburgh, I got so excited! Thank you!
wow, thank you for taking the time to make this video even during touring that’s incredibly selfless. i’m really glad i got to see this one live this year, it’s always very well done ❤
Such a great record. Thanks for these videos Matt
I love the MaximumRockNRoll sticker!
"Actually I think that was an Operation Ivy song." I love having this on RUclips, I believe it was Officer.
i was just jamming this in the car today on my way home from work.. awesome!
That last rif is the Matt Freeman special
...and I've definitely used it a few times myself
Rock Lobster. For some reason this video made me think of that song.

That riff at the end I feel like I recognize it from The War's End. So cool of you to share some of your techniques

Great to hear my surname dropped in there.. Respect to John (The Ox) Entwistle.
You coming to the UK any time soon Matt? Thanks.
Really nice, as always. Just bought old cd’s from Rancid, to complete the last i have, included the one i bought in California ;-)
The finger trick is like a reverse slap 😂
Hell yeah.
Any chance we can get more playovers from the first album or EP?
Love the technique instruction, thank you for taking the time to put this together!!
Chicken pickin on the bass. I love it!!
Great record, and love that message, it should be fun!
Amazing, Matt. I really loved the bits at the end of this one. Thanks for sharing.
Amazing song! Hard to believe that ALL that embellishment would sit right, but turn that bass down a bit and I BET IT DOES!!!!! 🤘🤘🤘
The soothing red walls of the bass bunker . Great song and great album.

Great song. Great album!
Fun stuff!
I heard the entwistle vibes
Brett Reed.... now that's a name I ain't heard in a long time. How's he doing?
Forgot how great this song was ! You did use a jazz bass on this record right ? I need more jazz bass :P
This is my fun face
Give me your super powers
What’s your EQ set up? Seems like you run a little hotter on the treble and tone full blast - would love to see what it is studio and live
🫡🐐
Brandon is a great drummer, but there was something about Brett Reeds style that was a bit more unique. Probably technically not as good but I miss him being in Rancid. Hasn't felt the same since.
All seems so easy Maxwell murder
