  • Received this phone as a junker. The housing was all busted up and had
a big chunk missing from the bottom-front. There was no ringer coil and
clapper assembly in it, although the (2) bells are the originals and were in place. It has 1950 dates stamped inside. Original cloth line cord was not
salvagable, but original cloth handset cord was, and is seen here in use.

I came up with a mixture of black bakelite dust filed from an old pot handle combined with fiberglass resin. That compound starts off as a runny liquid
that can be poured into a temporary mold made with whatever is available
to act as a small dam to hold it while it sets up. Takes a few minutes to set.
Then 2 hours to harden. It has the correct black color and texture.
It files, drills, and saws just like regular black bakelite. It required no
paint. No paint was used in this restoration. An aluminum bar with
clear scotch tape on it acted as the perfect mold dam for casting the new front/bottom. It gave the correct shiny surface.
