I tried it and it is amazing. Very fun to do and the first lesson was just 30 mins. Thanks for the discount code.

Thanks so much for showing us Guangdong's countryside.Looks so simple and peaceful. Looking forward to seeing more!
Great to see you back in action, Kat!
Condolences to Wei for the family loss. His mother seemed like a very caring person
Great to see our ‘lovely lady on a bike’ back with another video that ticked all the boxes.
Sorry that your 2021 is ending with some sadness. May 2022 bring you and Wei unlimited awesomeness!
Thanks for sharing. Really enjoy washing your clips. Stay safe and enjoy your cycling tour.
Yes, Cantonese must have soup everyday. Our grandparents are from Guangdong. When we were young we use to drink the bamboo wasp & salt with hot water, but hard to find in stores now. Thanks for your video; it kind of rekindle some childhood memories.
We are Hakka from Guangdong and yes, we have soup every day... we normally make enough for a few days and reheat, so that in our family we only make soup, say twice or three times a week... Cantonese soup is also medicinal...
My life is empty without soups!
Glad to see you're back.
I am finally Back.. and prepared for the youtube algorithm to give me super low views for the next few weeks while I try to recover what I have lost…😔😂the algorithm will wreck you if you go two weeks without posting
Glad to see your video post again. Have been praying for you and family. You are gifted telling stories.
👍👍👍 awesome vlog. My grandfather came from GuangDong. Hoping to do a similar trip in the near future.
Blessings from Kuching, Malaysia.
I live in Guangdong at the moment, thanks for giving me new places to visit!!! ☺
Definitely check out Kaiping, it’s a super unique place. And I highly recommend this bike route if you’re into biking😜 almost no hills , short distance between two cities , and great scenery
Good. Subscribed to your channel too!
Awesome trip. I always thought about doing this after seeing abroad in Japan do his but there's not much to see cycling around Shanghai. Guangdong is a good choice!
oh, glad to see you back online. I live in Foshan. Welcome to Guangdong. I love your videos - a true presentation of China, unbiased, and not exaggerated :-) An ad in the middle of the video is ok and acceptable, haha... :-)
Trotting through UNESCO World Heritage Sites...what a treat. Pray for more time to heal for you and family, and on with the awesome trips!
Best wishes for your family. Much prayer for you. Hope everything works out in the end.
Life goes on .

Condolence to wei's mother.
Super excited and looking forward to more videos of my ancestral home region. Your vids are the best. Keep up the good work!
Another outstanding vlog on the Chinese countryside..love this ..simply the best blog on rural China on YT ...what an amazing life adventure you are seeing..my condolences to Wei’s loss ...happy new year
Welcome back and hope that everything is okay now. Early Happy New Year wishes to you. May 2022 bring cheers and laughter and most importantly good health.🙏
Welcome back. Happy to see you again. ❤️
This channel is almost too good to be true and I cross my fingers in hopes of it continuing with the quality content. Americanized-Chinese here, and this channel is a very inviting window back into the country/culture of all my ancestors, which I don't know fully at all.
Thank you for making these awesome videos especially during this crazy covid time. I really enjoy watching all the video tours you've made. Do you plan to learn Cantonese?
Not unless we move to Guangdong🌝🌝still not sure what city we will live in long term , depends on job opportunities 😝
👍😍😍😍Katherine. What an amazing experience you have , I can see how excited you are and I’m so happy for you to see the smile you have through your biking on the quiet road and little chicken 😍and how fun to show people the software use that can help people a better way to learn any new languages . Cantonese people seems really likes to drink soup . It’s indeed surprising to see how massive the school building is in a country side which shows China government and Chinese people really cares about their children to have good academic skill and how important the education is to their younger generation. It is so relaxing to watch you bike in a country road . Your nonstop exploring will continue providing more energy, hopes and surprises to many people around the world including me . This is another interesting video for us to see one of the most relaxed and beautiful country sides in Canton with many interesting herb medicine comes from ... In addition , we find how important of the education for Chinese by finding a massive building had done by their local government for their children . Thank you for making such a meaningful and beautiful video you just posted here .We enjoyed so much as always . ❤️🥰🥰🥰
Nice tour! I appreciate your documentary. Happy New Year K & Wei! Cheers and always looking forward to your documentaries.
Happy new year to you too😎next video is coming in a couple days 🚲
Yessss!! Welcome back 😁😁
Condolences on your and Wei's loss. I returned to my family village about twenty-five years ago and saw pretty much what you have seen except for the abandoned villages. It was interesting to see the different construction of the buildings and its quality. It's great to go along with you on your travels. ... Cheers...
"Travel is fatal to prejudice".
You have traveled long way! Hats off!
Love these videos! They fill me with such glee!
Thank you for doing what you do. Your a good egg!
2:11 When I was a kid, people from remote villages used to bring cows and water buffaloes ("kerbau" in Indonesia) into my hometown, I often see them in certain places e.g. roadside and open field. I think they're no longer seen now except during Eid al-Adha day, maybe a livestock farm have been built somewhere.
👍...di kampung kampung sih masih ada bro
@@avil8686 Haha, ada lah pasti. Maksudnya gua itu tinggalnya di kota (kabupaten).
Do they love to eat bakso and indomie?💥
Just discovered your channel today. I was born in Guangdong now live in NYC. Your videos bring back my memories and also let others see the less known side of China. Thanks!
Amazing content! Guangdong is one of those unique places in China that we pretty much use anything we could as food or medication ingredients. If you happen to stop by Guangzhou, I’ll be happy to show you around and explain some local ingredients in food, drinks and medicine. That grassy plant you saw in the shop is called 鸡骨草, we use that for soup with mostly pork ribs or just pork meat, it’s said to have the effect to “cool ur body down” from 上火。
and the white chalk-like white pieces are probably dried Chinese yam (aka Wai san/Huaishan/淮山). no idea what the bottles of white powdering things are though. other bottles look like they could be things like dried shellfish pieces, there's quite a few bags of guopi (they don't look aged enough to be considered chenpi), maybe some are huamei, the long strips of brown could be dried ginger? there looks to be a bottle of dried small apricots(杏脯)? if there's things that look like beige wrinkly sticks that's probably angelica root, etc...

Love every single minute of this video, the interactions with locals in particular! I also agree with your view that listening comprehension is super important when learning a foreign language. I obtained a Higher Certificate in Spanish, but my listening skill is ghastly due to the lack of practice in listening to how other people talk :-(
08:59, I almost never hear a reference to "Golden Hour" now that you've mentioned it, I will remember that this time of 'day' has a name. 🌇
I still remember Wei's mother from the video of the visit back to their hometown. I was rooting for her to be able to live amongst her friends in the old neighbourhood. My thoughts are with the Wei family. 🌈
Very good camera view including from top. Thank for rare rural video that interaction with local.
Hey lady, happy new year 🎊🎆🎈
Glad you are back again.
Happy New Year on the road in Guangdong. Try the soup of the day at local restaurants. They call them 老火湯 (literally "old fire soup") (8:34) really curious about the story of this massive building.
"a slightly modified cow" -- oh, Katherine, you are a hoot. I love wherever you go and whatever you do; and I share your fascination with abandoned little villages. please keep doin' what you are doin'!
I can't wait until I'm in China! I'll be attending Northwestern Polytechnical University this fall as an undergraduate!
In Guangdong there are several languages spoken (aside from Mandarin) - Cantonese, Hakka, are among them. I only visited twice and for a very short period of time... When China reopens its borders, I am considering traveling to China and visiting all these beautiful places you've shown us in your bike tours...Happy New Year to you and Wei. May the New Year be prosperous, full of happiness, love, and great health...
Happy new year to you too🌞hope you get a chance to come here soon, it’s beautiful 😁
@@kats_journey_east Thank you Katherine... When I do get the chance, and you can visit Guangdong again, maybe we could coincide somewhere in Guangdong, and I can be your Hakka or Cantonese translator... :)
Thanks Catherine. Always enjoy you vblog. Cheers and have Happy and Safe 2022!
Happy new year katherine sister merry Christmas and God bless you and bless your family 😇
Congratulations Yang Yang. It is good to see you back on the channel. Hope you have taken the period to grieve and I presume this bunch of videos were shot before the sad event. Anyway, time is the best healer and good to see you again.
Yes they were, they were shot at the same time as the Kaiping fortress village video. it was good to take some time off to be with Wei during this tough time but can’t be gone forever, I am finally back editing videos and will shoot some new ones in January 🚲
I think those slices of hard white stuff for soup is called 椎山. It's often used in a mix with barley, dried longan and other herbs. Depending on the region, the mix is made into a sweet soup or with meat into a salted soup. You can buy it packaged from an herb shop or food market as 清補涼.
Welcome to Enping, my father's home town. The guy in the store is speaking more like 四邑話, a distinct dialect of Cantonese.
yeah bike tour is back!!!
Happy and beautiful ending for this year!
Awesome video as usual

Interesting... KaiPing is my mother's hometown☺️

Yes you're right about soup, canto families must have soup every dinner. Canto mum or pop will cook some sort of soup everyday.
Another great video. Can not wait for the next one. Thanks!

Thank you Katherine for another gorgeous video in Guangdong's country side... Literally where my ancestors are from... Have you crisscrossed Huadu district yet?

I am totally surprised on the unique drink that people in Guangdong (廣東) usually have, but that's part of their tradition.
Besides, I haven't ridden a bicycle since childhood, due to lost of interest.🚴♂️

How come Katherine never gets tired of cycling.
She is actually not a "normal human being," but rather a humanoid you see in sci-fi. Where a change of battery located in her back and she is good to go again. Check out on some of the sci fi movies and you will understand what I meant.
My butt would be aching after half an hour of cycling
Cycling is actually addictive. Like photography and Fishing, there are a lot of enthusiasts.
@@elleem3951 You make it sound like we need a Cycling Anonymous to cure the addiction. Is that why Lance Armstrong resort to drugs to counter his addiction? Pray tell. 😜😜😜

Which video that you visit Taishan where my Dad came from. I am not surprised many houses abandon and the children migrated overseas. A lot of Taishanese are now found in USA, mostly in China Town. They are responsible for making the Railroads in USA. Some migrated to South East Countries like Malaysia, my country.
