The Wars for Armageddon are a trilogy of brutal conflicts on the imperial hive world of Armageddon, pitting inquisitors, Astra Militarum regiments, and Space Marine chapters against Orks and Chaos foes. These tumultuous conflicts have seen the rise and fall of heroes, warlords, and daemons. Today, we’re delving into the Second War for Armageddon, a desperate struggle between the Imperium of Man and the Ork warlord Ghazghkull Thraka.
Officially beginning in the year 941 M41, the seeds of this war were sown nine years earlier on the planet of Urk. Originally called Urokleas, this world was conquered by the Dark Angels Legion in M31 and subsequently mined by the Imperium. In M32, one of the largest Greenskin Waaaghs in history swept through the system, leaving the planet infested with Orks.
Stranded on Urk for eight thousand years due to turbulent warp travel, the Orks waged constant war, forming tribes in perpetual conflict. Ghazghkull Thraka emerged as a significant leader after receiving a bionic implant from Mad Dok Grotsnik, which either drove him insane or activated his latent psychic abilities. Ghazghkull united the Ork tribes, launching a massive Waaagh towards Armageddon on a space hulk.
The war saw fierce battles, heroic defenses, and devastating losses. Commissar Yarrick’s tactical acumen stood out during the siege of Hive Hades, while Hive Helsreach demonstrated formidable resistance. Ultimately, the Imperium's victory hinged on the timely arrival of Space Marine reinforcements, led by Commander Luis Dante of the Blood Angels.
