A week in the Kruger! Lions, storms, and a pesky hornbill | Tsendze | Kruger Park | Off-grid Camping

  • We spent a week camping in the Kruger National Park at Tsendze Rustic Camp, near Mopani. Tsendze is an off-grid camp site with no electricity, so solar panels and camping fridges are strongly recommended (but not essential). Tsendze is located in the middle section of the Kruger National Park, near Mopani Rest Camp.
    The camp ground is pristine and really well maintained, if not - as the name suggests - a little rustic. There are 30 camp sites at Tsendze, each with loads of shade, a braai, and water taps in close proximity. A number of sites are situated right on the fence offering beautiful views of the bush, and the opportunity to see game such as hyena, elephant, impala, zebra, and wildebeest. The bird life in Tsendze is abundant and the night is teeming with the sounds of lion, hyena, hippo, and the unmistakable call of the Skops owl.
    Whilst the ablutions are not 5 star, they are neat, clean, and more than adequate. There are outdoor showers which offer the unique experience of showering under the African sky. There is a central kitchen area (two in fact) offering gas hobs, and two communal fridges should you not have your own camping fridge.
    Tsendze is a satellite camp to the nearby Mopani Rest Camp which has a petrol station, shop, restaurant, swimming pool, and chalets for the less adventurous. A highlight of Mopani is the restaurant deck overlooking Pioneer Dam. The perfect spot for a pit stop and a drink, while soaking in the beauty of the African bush!
    More information on the Kruger National Park and Tsendze Rustic Camp, including booking information, can be found at www.sanparks.org/
    All footage in this video was shot on a Canon EOS R mirrorless camera system, with an RF 24-105 f4 L series lens, an RF 14-35 f4 L series lens, a Simga 150-600 Contemporary series lens, a Garmin Hero 7 Black, a Garmin Hero 11 Black, and my Apple iPhone 13 Pro.
    My vehicle is a Ford Ranger Wildtrak (Thunder Edition) 2.0l bi-turbo diesel, fitted with a Front Runner Slimline II rack over the load bed, a Front Runner SlimSport rack on the roof, and a Front Runner Roof Top Tent.
    My off-road camping trailer is a Metalian Bowhunter, fitted with a Tentco Junior tent. The Metalian is fitted with a 70 litre National Luna fridge, a deep cycle battery with power management system, including solar charging input, and a Dometic gas burner for cooking.
    For power I use a National Luna DC25 battery pack which is wired into my vehicle for charging whilst driving, and a solar panel for charging whilst in camp. I have a Dometic CFX 35 litre fridge, which runs off the National Luna DC25.
    I also use a Jackery 200w Solar Power Station for charging cellphones, camera batteries etc.
    Power for the batteries comes courtesy of a 100W Jackery solar panel, and a 150W FlexoPower solar panel.
    I am not sponsored by any of the above brands.

    Nice video. One of our favorite camps in SA.
    I'm very afraid of tarantulas, so we pressed all the buttons.

      It is an awesome camp site - no place better than to spend a week in the bush. Not a huge spider fan myself to be honest - so that threat would have made me press all of the buttons too 🤣

      Thanks for watching. Hope you enjoyed them. Spent a weekend camping in the rain two months ago. Need to still edit and post that one. Also heading off back to Kruger in 2 weeks, so a video from that trip will be forthcoming too.

      @Camp Seeker Africa I'll look out for the new ones. Shame camping in the rain is not fun. I got onto your videos while looking for camping spots and I'm also looking for a camping trailer for the family. Was looking at the meridian maxi and invader but open to other options

      I don’t mind camping in the rain. Adds a bit of adventure to the trip - as long as you have weatherproof gear! The Metalian trailers are awesome! I’ve got the Bowhunter, which is the second smallest in the range but more than adequate for my needs. The Maxi is awesome with loads of space! The Invaders look great but I have never seen one in the flesh to be able to comment fairly. There is also Conqueror, but in my opinion - whilst they are very nice - they seem a bit overpriced. You are paying for the name. The Metalian’s offer excellent value and their build quality is amazing. By the way, my new Kruger video went up this past weekend 😊

      @@CampSeekerAfrica thanks for the feedback. Went off grid camping this last weekend at Gwahumbe game and Spa with family and a rooftop tent and their invader Quatro. Was awesome 4x4 driving but minimal animal life as it's a small reserve but very mountains. Watched the new episode. Looked amazing thanks for creating it

      Actually not long at all. We were there 6 nights from 1-7 Jan 2023. If I recall correctly, I booked in November 2022.

    Nice video bro, do you need a 4×4 vehicle to get to Tsendze camp?

    • @CampSeekerAfrica
      @CampSeekerAfrica  Год назад +1

      Thanks for watching! No, you don’t need a 4x4 to get to Tsendze, or anywhere else in the Kruger Park for that matter. Everywhere is accessible by tar roads, or very well maintained dirt roads. You can travel Kruger in any vehicle.

    Why do you braai with charcoal

    • @CampSeekerAfrica
      @CampSeekerAfrica  6 месяцев назад

      I find it easier and quicker using charcoal rather than wood. I find wood sometimes takes too long to burn into nice cooking coals. 😊

      No, no snares that I saw. Both hyenas I saw looked healthy and well fed.

      Hey Malcolm. Yeah, quite safe. We don’t take any chances though, so if something dangerous is close to the vehicle we will close the windows, but generally the animals keep their distance from the vehicles, so having the windows open isn’t really a problem 😊

    Whay don't you show your cooked food

    • @CampSeekerAfrica
      @CampSeekerAfrica  6 месяцев назад

      On this trip we tended to cook a little later than usual, and so by the time the food was ready it was too dark to get a good shot of the cooked food in a way that looked appetising.
