    Really nice build. I did a Twin Cam swap on my 1992 FXRS, i took a 110 screamin eagle engine and a 6 Speed Tranny. I put on an Oilpan from Deviant Fabrications, so you don't have to cut the frame. The Rims and Suspension i took from an Harley XR1200X. That bike rides perfect. Greetings from Germany! As an German i like to ride American Bikes !

    I would rather have an evo over a twin cam. Nice FXR though!

    • @TheJedRides
      @TheJedRides  2 года назад

      I understand your perspective and I thought long and hard about it. I kept the motor and have it on a stand in my office but I doubt it’ll ever. go back in. I’ve got a low mileage but in rough shape 94 FXR in the garage, too. Im working on it slowly but it will remain an Evo. 👍🏼

    • @jw3028
      @jw3028 2 года назад

      If both motors are properly maintained without any mods they will last a good time. I just heard that evo’s can be rebuilt because the crank pin isn’t fixed into the fly wheels as they are in the twin cam. But I could be wrong. I junked my Evo cases for a delkron aftermarket case and I’ve been really happy. But I think the harley cases were the weak link
      In the evo. Especially if you built out the motor. I kept pulling my cylinder studs right out.

    • @TheJedRides
      @TheJedRides  2 года назад +1

      @@jw3028 Agree about the cases. Mine in the '91 was cracked, actually. I was going to either replace the whole thing with an S&S 111 or a built TC and opted for the TC mostly because I had an engine builder I trust. I am feeling pretty confident in my welded crank, but those could be famous last words! Stock Evo vs stock (early) TC, I would take an Evo. But if you're going to build it for power, I think the TC is the way to go.

    You can make a Road King handle well with the right suspension, handlebar controls, and brakes. The difference between BMWs and Harleys is that a BMW comes out of the factory with everything you need and nothing you don't. A Harley on the other hand has the look, but is designed with the aftermarket in mind. There's many different types of Harley riders and everyone has their own preference. I've put 8in Kraus risers, +2 suspension in the front, and 14" shocks in the rear of my Road Glide. The handling is completely different from when it was basically stock with just slip ons.

    • @TheJedRides
      @TheJedRides  Год назад

      Agree. Is your RG an M8? What suspension did you choose for your RG, and did you do relocate the gauges when you added the risers? Timing is everything -- I am actually considering trying to buy a RG at the moment.

    • @TheJedRides
      @TheJedRides  2 месяца назад

      Sorry for the delayed reply. Good question. It is still titled as a Harley Davidson. I had to go to the California Highway Patrol and get them to inspect the bike with the new engine and show them a certificate of ownership for the new engine. They filled out some paperwork that I then had to take to the DMV to revise the title to reflect the new engine number, since it no longer matches the VIN.

    That engine has the internal oil routing right? What adapter did you use? The Vulcan adapter has the oil lines coming out the side but I don't see them on yours.

    • @TheJedRides
      @TheJedRides  Год назад

      I'm running a Vulcan adapter between the evo tranny and the TC motor that may be hard to see because it is powder coated, and there's a black braided oil line from the oil tank that runs jut across he top of it into the motor. You can see it pretty well at 14 seconds into the video.

    Love the build! What specification swingarm was it? I know you said c&s. The Dyna wheel is a bit wider than fxr. I was going to do a similar build but with a late model tc trans and a roadster rear wheel which is 18” 4.25 25mm. But I wanted to keep the original fxr shock mount position.

    • @TheJedRides
      @TheJedRides  2 года назад

      Thanks man. It’s just a stock length swingarm. I’m running 25mm axles. Lots of work to fit that wheel with a 160 on it. The bolt heads on the pulley barely clear the swingarm. It would have been a lot easier with a chain, but I wanted to run a belt for ease of maintenance.

    • @TheJedRides
      @TheJedRides  2 месяца назад +1

      Maybe, but at my ripe old age I have found that when I find a craftsman or a mechanic I really trust and I let them build what they want to build, I come out ahead. Eric had built a number of twin cams they way he built mine, including on his own Dyna that he had ridden across the country and back. He said it would be bulletproof and he recommended it over building an Evo. As I mentioned in the video, the bike still has its stock primary and tranny, and the frame wasn't modified, so the bike can go back to being an Evo if I or someone else wants to do it. I had him fix the cases and rebuild the stock Evo engine from the bike that I have sitting on a stand in my office, too. I feel really good about the way we did it.
