Sykes makes it all look so effortless. Hats off to the man!
he has to fluff the fast part though. Only gary could play that part properly. the Irish jig part. I have seen gary do it once at the Phil Lynott memorial concert and he turns his back to the audience so maybe he couldn't do it either? I'm a guitarist and there is no way i could play that
Nuts
@Apocalypse2031 Sykes still cant play Roisin dubh properly.
for me Gary is better at both things @Apocalypse2031
Sykes is not in Gary's league, that's a terrible version of a classic song. Never liked the sound of Sykes guitar. The notes sound wonky and not crisp, so the duel guitar sound suffers
Not even John Sykes can play that relentless solo legato. Gary Moore nails it every single time live. Proof of what a phenomenal player Gary was. RIP.
Snowy also blew it every time he played it
😂@@MsSoulProvider
John Sykes is a legend!
Damn ..dude killlllllllll's it ...
vocals.. sound like Phil on STEROIDS..
GUITAR...mind blowing ..Both Phil and a (heavy) Gary embodied in...SYKES!!!!
Carry on that great "THIN LIZZY" name!!! He brought that band into the 21st Century.. Tour De Force!!!
mr john sykes , one of the best guitarist ever to play!
What a legend Gorham is ! Btw...great vocals from Sykes !
John Sykes is special and for me one of the greatest guitar players ever......❣
Saw this tour out here in California 2003/2004 @ the Galaxy Theater with my fellow Irish Friend, Rob who just passed away April 10th. What a night! Rest in Peace Robbo.
Never count John Sykes out! I really hope his album finally comes out one day!
His new song came out yesterday....its brilliant as you'd imagine
@@warborn_inc. Was just about to comment that lol, I do find it to be a bit too processed but it is still pretty good and I am looking forward to his upcoming work!
Maybe yeah or maybe not.
John sykes au chant, c'est rendre un bel hommage à Phil lynnot.
You can see the love for the song in their playing. They both played in Thin Lizzy and are keeping the legend alive. BRAVO!!!
karimba45 they quit doing this in 09
Thanks for this. I love Lizzy and Sykes. I Proudly wear my Lizzy tshirt round Birmingham, England.
I was born in the same hospital, Hallam, as Phil and being mixed race myself, he was a great hero and inspiration to me growing up.
I miss him loads.
Phil and Lizzy are in my blood.
Thanks Love Child, kudos to you.
@Lean Derthal Thank you!!! I freaking love Thin Lizzy and Sykes too! Cheers!
Nowts a problem to that fella mr john Sykes,
I met Scott and John at the Portland Airport the morning after a concert. Told them I loved the show and they were both friendly and thanked me.
John is a great performer.
Not only did he do the singing of Phil, but also the guitar of Gary.
This takes guts.
Agree...no one plays Black Rose like Gary Moore but John Sykes version is very good and he deserves a lot more credit than he gets when all the Lizzy guitarists are compared.
Thunder and Lightning was a underated album and its a shame Phil was starting to deteriorate health wise and we didnt see and hear more of Sykes and Phil collaborating on new material.
Mad respect for Sykes. It's a shame he came into Lizzy so late as things were winding down. But he did alright for himself after that.
Phil was such a brilliant lyricist and song writer. Always had the best guitsrists. Sykes is a rare and unusual talent without being pretentious. I love the twin lead guitars they sound like bagpipes. Brilliant
Yes! It was awesome!
I always loved at the heaviness that John Sykes brought to Thin Lizzy
If you look behind them you can see that John Sykes is using a JCM 800 style Marshall and Scott Gorham is using a Plexi 70's style Marshall. It's really cool you can really clearly hear the difference in tone between the two amplifiers and also strat and les paul.
Thunder and Lightning was Epic
@@maxsavagetheshredinator5840 The Strat just sounds thin and weak compared to Sykes' LP. It may be a bit to do with the FOH having Sykes' send more up in the mix - him being the one playing more of the intricate stuff that is beyond Gorham. But when Gorham stopped playing the LP in Lizzy - it never sounded right to me.
@Maxx Schneider T&L was a bit too heavy for us Lizzy purists.. even Philo said heavy metal was a bit to bland for his tastes
@@tigerlikeswater golden period was Scott and Brian
Gary Moore vibe all over ! BY two of the greatest guitar players ever: Mr. Sykes & Mr. Gorham !!! Awesome ! Marshall, Les Paul & Stratocaster. Pure f. heaven.
And Sykes, seriously, what a guitar player, what tone.
Bathtubgeorge!
Well said!!👈🤘🎸🔝
I totally agree sykes tone superb
Wow John nailed Phil's vocal big time. Works amazing with Scot . Truly is the best tribute to phil . Almost deserving of the Name Thin Lizzie. They should carry on with John. Keep the name too.
John is such a beast! I can't wait for his new album
What I have heard so far is killer, Gates of Hell is epic,
Not long now....apparently 🤘
March, 2020.
Still waiting...
I loved him then and now
Surprisingly good vocals!
John come back to us. And also I hope Scott sees sense and team up with John again with this line up they were killer live and John did an awesome job fronting and playing superb tribute to phil
It may just be me, but I feel like Sykes wants Phil back more than anything. And if it came to being in Thin Lizzy or Whitesnake. He'd choose Phil. I think even after all these year he just misses his friend.
And how could you not. Another person can come in and say the words. But they can NEVER replace a friend.
No question about it ! the fact that he has participated in many Lizzy related tours , since Phil passed . In 30 years hasn't toured with Coverdale . Even though i think he did the best work of his career with Whitesnake ! it's clear he always had a much stronger bond with Phil .
@@SJ-ty5rw
He stated a few times that he was emotionally linked to that band,- he was so proud when he joined them..
SYKES is the man awesome player
Rock n Roll needs you, John!
Saw Thin Lizzy and the GREAT Phil Lynott with Journey the summer of 79....it was amazing..Oh God ....someone PLEASE invent a time machine!
Saw that same tour at the Warehouse in New Orleans! Still have some incredible pics
@@bayoubengal1961 let's see them
@@lizzyfan1986 I don't think I can post pics on here
Keep Thin Lizzie’s music alive guys. Stop the bullshit arguments about which guitarist is better , and enjoy the music. The Thin Lizzy music. Two years ago, I drove 450 miles one way to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, just to hear the Black Star Riders playing the best Thin Lizzy songs live. I’ve never seen Thin Lizzy in my life, so, seeing Scott Gorham and BSR, was still special to me.
Was fortunate enough to see both Gary and John play with Lizzy. Moore was just a god, but Sykes was still brilliant. Both incredibly enjoyable in their own ways, but you'll know where my preference marginally lies.
Thank you for this comment, stop comparing different guitarists and styles and just enjoy! All Lizzie's guitarists had different playing styles but they just made Lizzy a constantly changing band but we're always Lizzy coz of Phil, Scott and Brian keeping the thread. I honestly think some folks feel they need to criticize instead of enjoying the music that made thin Lizzy unique.
Yup
Absolutely outstanding, foreverfan from Denmark. Phil is rocking high above with you guys.
I like players who keep and play the same guitar.nice one john.
God they make this shit look easy to play. Lizzy* always had the best guitarists
woow , what a fucking great drummer Michael Lee was !!!! rest in peace
I love you guys and always love. Sykes, Gorham, Downey, Wharton. Time to play together again for Phil, Gary and for Rock, for us. Thin lizzy never died, always respect and rulez.
Sykes = Vibrato King!
Pinch harmonics too!!
@@alilacherruse don't forget about fucking Zakk Wylde and his relentless use of pinching. It's sometimes too much.
Wow it still sounds so good...thank you Phil and Lizzy for the legacy 👍
Now kids pay attention. This is what rock and roll sounds like.
Kids in 2020: What is rock and roll? How do I makes these sounds with a laptop and a turntable?
What a complete mess 😭😭😭 not Lizzy fans with your quotes below horrible copy - cover band limehouse Lizzy makes them silly
i was born in 2004 im glad i grew up around people with good taste in music then they past it to me like aids it stays for life hahaha
@@stephenmagee8783 naa, all tribute bands are just that, tributes
Love John Sykes' vibrato and volume/tone control mannerisms
I was there, the show was fantastic exactly as you said in your introduction, it was a dream come true for me to see two off my heroes, john sykes and scott Gorham, I was another time at bang your head festival in 2008, I really enjoyed those two times, it will be great for me to be there another time, great festival and great memories
Michael Lee R.I.P on drums!
The best English drummer since John Bonham.
Heir heir..
This Is The Last Line- up that I saw the Real Tribute Band of Thin Lizzy ..Great !!! Salud y Vida Pa'lante !!! Cheers and Life On !!!
Wow, this very professional band shows how good Phill was as a singer and bass player. And how incredible Brian's drumming was and is.
It’s not Brian on drums
chills upon gooseflesh. christ i needed this.... RIP Michael...ya beauiful bastard
This should be the new Thin Lizzy, not the current one with Warwick on Vocals! Me. Sykes sounds a lot like Phil and feels the words been written for him! Wonderful version!
Dont get it do ya.
Lizzy died with Phil .
Black Star Riders need to be their own band
@@adamwarlock5286 see, theres one now
I love John, but no Phil no Lizzy.John gets the ending wrong here, trying to play too fast.
I despise the Warwick era. He's not the right singer, but Scott will have anyone to keep the money rolling in.
The Mighty John Sykes has never and would never do anything to tarnish Phil’s legend. I personal think he is the ONLY one who can truly give it the honor and respect as well as the love it deserves. I think he deserves to sing it.
He sounds great. This was excellent. All for keeping Phil's music out there.
THIN LIZZY WILL LIVE FOREVER!!
Sykes make it so easy. ❤
Sykes' vibrato is effing legendary.
‘cept when he sounds like Zakk
@@arthurmurfitt7698 😂 Right. Sykes has been around for years before Zakk. Take another bong hit dude.
@@mgdarenz hahaha! both suffer from overdone pinches and over wide vibrato... whatever dude, I'll pass...
And may I suggest Gary Moore or Michael Schenker, you may have heard of them? ;-)
@@arthurmurfitt7698 You are high. Sykes rarely uses pinch harmonics to the extent that Zakk does. Over-wide vibrato? LOL
Great Vocals great drumming Guitar licks. 20 years ago Still Amazing . Phil really left some Amazing Stuff. From The Almighty ThinLizzy
Philip linot Forever 🇧🇷❤!
Oh my gosh. John Sykes is a monster. So underrated. 🤘🤘🤘
What an amazing soulful performance. John's singing is very impressive. The whole band is excellent. The drumming is really good, wow!
This is incredible.brought a tear to my eye this St.Patrick's Day.🍀RIP P.L. RIP G.M.🙏
Sykes!
OMG j'adore excellent une de mes préférées Black Rose Thin lizzy je kiiiiffff grave merci 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🙏🎶🎼🎵😱👏👍🎤💖
Sykes always kills awesome player and singer
Let's celebrate rock'n'roll and the ones who still have the will to get on stage and kick some assess!!! That's the real rock'n'roll spirit!! Ok if you don't like too much someone's performance, you're free to feel it, but let's try to hate less and love more!!! Peace, love and rock'n'roll is all we need, dudes!!!
Never gets old.
sykes ALWAYS has the best DRUMMERS.rest in peace michael lee!!!!! BADASS
And Sykes is great
I was there somewhere in the crowd, it was a dream come true for me, the show was a really good one, john sykes and scott Gorham were great on guitars, thin Lizzy performed on the second day of the fest, on the first day DIO was the main show with the legendary craig golgy on guitar, good memories from bang your head 2003 festival
Sykes! One of my all-time top 5 guitarists for sure. Ever notice his reflex move when he's playing? He moves his picking hand to make sure his volume knob is on full a bunch of times during every song. Sometimes he really is adjusting the level, but it's mostly just reflex to make sure it's up. I do that too if I'm moving around on stage and might accidentally move the knob.
I love everything about this song forever your awesome legends 💯🎸♥️
This is a great version
John Sykes - Lead vocals and guitar
Scott Gorham - Guitar
Randy Gregg -Bass guitar
Michael Lee - Drums
It's not Randy Gregg on bass, I don't know the name of the bassist though!
@@nilotta1 It is not Marco Mendoza or Guy Pratt who together with Randy were the only bass players who played with the band in 2003, so until they prove the opposite to me it is Randy Gregg!
@@classicrockstationIt's Gary Leiderman on bass, he was only in Lizzy for what seems like a couple of months before Randy joined in 2003. Before Lizzy he played on an Asia album and after Lizzy he showed up in TANK for a little while as well
Love this
Some years ago I used to dislike Sykes, due to my preference for Robbo. I realize now I was wrong. He's awesome( same great hair, too!😉)And makes good team with Scott, almost as good as Scott did with Robbo.
Great performance
SIR SYKES THE RIFF MASTER
God bless his BADASS!!!
Saw them three times at the Glasgow Apollo with Brian, and Snowy white, never got to
see Gary Moore as he had taken a powder on the Blackrose tour.Pity to miss the best.
Sykes can sing !
Sykes!!!
John Sykes/Scott Gorham greatest guitar duo ever.
Brilliant
Really quite impressive - extremely solid vocals and sharp guitar work - John Sykes seems to be a top notch 'guitar-for-hire' and I always get the impression that he is 'filling in for someone else whilst looking for a proper job' or maybe whilst looking for a 'rock persona' - he almost comes across as a fusion of Coverdale and Malmsteem, but not quite as good as either individually but amazing as he does both of their roles at the same time.
I can say with confidence that I prefer the sound of Sykes voice to that of Coverdale. Each to their own, however. I'd argue that Sykes is more Blackmore like than Malmsteen like
Mamsteen is no doubt a master player but i dont think he has the feel of guys like Sykes. His work on Whitesnake 87 was hall of fame worthy.
Just pure class❤
Michael Lee on drums ...God rest his soul , great drummer and replacement for Downey !
Great drummer, amazing guy. He leave us so young. Amazing memories with Page/Plant. Rest in peace, Mike.
Sykes a maestro
You know it is ok too show the bass player. there was no reason the guy should have been edited out of the video damned near completely. Just because it isn't Phil doesn't mean you have to disrespect the guy completely.
Well, he is the BASS player....lol
Truth!
obeisance...I loved Thin Lizzy...I love this song....never forget...
Michael Gary Pearson RIP !!!
Bloody good
Timeless to me. Just feel it.
this must be love
Wow he’s being very faithful to how Phil sang it amazes me
❤te amo michael lee 😢
The Advent of Nirvana didn't change John's hair😅 good for him👍♥️
Check out Sykes' Blue Murder (with Carmine Appice and Tony Franklin). Another home run
glory days ....R.I.P. Bang Your Head Festival🤘🤘🤘
Scott Gorham toujours la pêche !!!!
Ainda acho que Phil Lynott e Rick foram os melhores vocalistas do Thin Lizzy
Lu et approuvé 🙏💖🎸
RIP Phil & GARY
Sykes can sing like Phil
I like this version of Thin Lizzy, Sykes does a great job. Shame they didn't do an Album of new material at some point.
@@MiddayMeditations Agreed, but isn't it cool to keep the memory of the late great Phil Lynott alive? Of course it's not really Thin Lizzy but I thought they did a fine job.
엄청나다고 말할 수 밖에 없는 연주 스코트 고험, 존 사이크스 두분 다 대단하네요
I want Lizzy's reunion with John Sykes singing these songs, WHO ELSE IF NOT HIM???
Sykes! ❤
They sound so good together! Sykes come back!!!
Good band......
We ALL WANT PHIL BACK , and Gary, if I’m being honest
MY SONG… thank youuuuu
That solo is already difficult to play, but with the tempo being faster..... Must be even harder to play
I love you !
surprised how good this is.
John Smith john Sykes is an amazing musician, he also seems happier singing Phils and Garys songs more than his own solo work
Gary Moore wasn't my fav guitarist in Lizzy, but he was untouchable in playing this song.
