It was a real shame that this incarnation of Thin Lizzy couldn’t have lasted a few more years. The addition of John Sykes really seemed to reinvigorate the rest of the band and they recorded their best music in years. I’m glad that I had the chance to see them play at Hammersmith Odeon before Phil’s premature death.
Scott Gorham had to deal with his drug problem and Phil was getting worse with his..... videos from shortly after this show Phil as bloated and looking very ill... I think if the band hadn't folded when it did, things would have got very bad and may not have left the legacy it did
Just went to see the tribute rock band Limehouse Lizzy currently on tour and holy meatballs are they as close to these legends or what?!?!?!?! If you love the legends that were Thin Lizzy… go see Limehouse Lizzy. Absolutely brilliant. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
One and only shadow of the great Gary Moore. Im not a Sykes fan boy, ive heard both several times and Sykes wete never and never will be, in the same class. Sorry
For anyone wondering or interested, I'm pretty sure this was at the Regal Theatre in Hitchin and was likely filmed on January 26th 1983. You can find the full concert on RUclips.
Never saw Lizzy live. Seen 4 tributes, all give a taste of what Thin Lizzy were about. But none come close to the real band from what I get from these vids. Very sad we lost Phil so young. What a great talent he was.
Robbo and Scott were my two faves …. Bad Reputation Reading festival 77 at age 17 a true gem of a gig…this is food for thought though, kicks ass in all the right places. Solid as a rock Lizzy. 👌🏼🕉
Scott, Robbo, Phil, and Brian. That’s Thin Lizzy folks. Every other version of the band that followed was meant to maintain the bar that was set by those guys.
The times i could have seen them live 🤔, i eventually caught them at the Reading Festival 83..... great set great band and Lynott held all 30 odd thousand of us in the palm of his hand .… thanx for the music Phil 🎸👏
Just over two years to live 😢😢 , nobody to hold him together , he could not hold himself together. One of the most unique rock talents ever, try singing some of his songs , it's damn difficult. Born for the stage and to be a legend. I still remember where I was, what I was doing, which radio channel i had on , how shit a radio it was but the news was crystal clear "The Irish rock star......" 😢
Just imagine if Phil had lived, and this version went on... I wonder how many of those " Whitesnake" songs would have been on the next few Thin Lizzy albums...
i am 54, heard their big hits & loved them back then. thanks to this archive i am hearing and seeing this for the first time! Phil & lizzy r my new faves of all time!! thanks for posting!!
I first heard this song on a Megadeth album. Both versions are killer but I am impressed with how heavy Thin Lizzy was. To me it is what Heavy Metal is all about.
Agreed Louise, I can't remember if Mustaine credited Thin Lizzy on 13 for the cover. I always wanted to know who did the original and I was pleasantly surprised to hear Dave covered it perfectly.
That sweet spot between hard rock and heavy metal. Perfect
One of the reasons why Thin Lizzy might seriously be the best rock group of them all.
If you like that spot, you can listen as well «She goes down» by Gotthard 👌👌 the voice and the instruments are awesome.
You can see how much Phil was loving this performance, especially after John's solo. They rocked.
John Sykes and Phil were match made in heaven. What a tune !
Add to the list, Gary Moore. RIP.
Snowy white and Gary more!
What could of should of happened...Phil and John..wow
Definitely no Whitesnake in 84
John Sykes is on another level of EPICNESS!
Brian Downey a fantastic drummer, all the notes in the right place.
and a man knows every beat existing!!
I think he is really overlooked as one of the greats .
Best Irish ☘️ rock band in the history of forever.
John Sykes is one badass guitarist.
One of the greatest voices in rock history period.
Simply awesome 🇮🇹
This band with Sykes on guitar and Phil’s vocals. Forget it. What a ticket. Rip Phil.
Fuckin' amazing Band!
RIP Phil Lynott
I sore thin lizzy at reding 83 it was amazing

This is such a killer song!! John Sykes is amazing and the little screams he adds is awesome.
Sykes touching sky ♥
Phil was and will always be the coolest Irishman that ever existed.
Agree, but you can extend that to the coolest Earthling ever.
If you promote heroin !!!!!????
What about Mrs. Brown?
Theres a legend that says he was born in Paysandù, Uruguay.

Magnificent collaboration of Phil Lynott & John Sykes.....exceptionally cool!!

True this line up fucking rules

@@ianbagley172 worse than death?
Just went to see the tribute rock band Limehouse Lizzy currently on tour and holy meatballs are they as close to these legends or what?!?!?!?!

Strikes me as an epic live performance band.
No small thing to really impact on a live crowd.
Again, underrated.
John Sykes The One and Only
One and only shadow of the great Gary Moore. Im not a Sykes fan boy, ive heard both several times and Sykes wete never and never will be, in the same class. Sorry
Sykes!!
To this date one of my favourite rock tunes and riffs/solos...Thunder & Lightning album remains a masterpiece.

Yes! This is one of hard rocks most underappreciated releases.
Vagabonds Kings worriors angels!! Pretty good to
Right you are, It doesn't get much better than Thunder & Lightning. It's one album that's been in heavy rotation for albums I listen to most.
One of the coolest songs ever written.
One of the best bands EVER. Shit they make me cry all over again.
Johnny the fox, emerald, rosalie, the sun goes down. ♥️ don't they count? 1983 tour Glasgow apollo. Any cowboys 🤠 💙 out there see the opening band?
For anyone wondering or interested, I'm pretty sure this was at the Regal Theatre in Hitchin and was likely filmed on January 26th 1983. You can find the full concert on RUclips.
Killer guitar solo!
You gotta love thin lizzy ❤
Cold stone sober. Gid up Phil, Legend
It’s a shame all most have heard is boys back in town. These dudes jam and rock hard! Even in the 2022! I salute them .
Never saw Lizzy live. Seen 4 tributes, all give a taste of what Thin Lizzy were about. But none come close to the real band from what I get from these vids. Very sad we lost Phil so young. What a great talent he was.
Its unbelievable how great they really were. Phils music will live forever
Killer track and Sykes was on fire.
⭐⭐🎸🎸👍cheers, fellas !👍🎸🎸⭐⭐
Thin Lizzy Forever
Robbo and Scott were my two faves …. Bad Reputation Reading festival 77 at age 17 a true gem of a gig…this is food for thought though, kicks ass in all the right places. Solid as a rock Lizzy. 👌🏼🕉
Scott, Robbo, Phil, and Brian. That’s Thin Lizzy folks. Every other version of the band that followed was meant to maintain the bar that was set by those guys.
This is the song that got me into Thin Lizzy as it was in the UK top 40 charts. Tommy Vance used to do it on Sunday evenings on the BBC.
I love that wee twiddly bit from Scott
So highly underrated.
Everyone in Thin Lizzy was top notch. With Phil, he truly conjured up the very fucking best out of all of them.
Quality and a personal friend of Lemme , Motörhead 👊💥
So gifted ... so dedicated to alkohol and drugs ... so sad ... so still i love with you 💔😢
Cold Stone crazy! Phil sang all the choruses reversed! I love it! Great song. Great band.
Thats because Phil was the best and could get away with it 😎🤘
What a band!
Phil + John Sykes = the new era Lizzy should have had.
True But if that did Happen you woeld not have had the killer version of Whitesnake from on slide it in Lp. And on
saw Thin Lizzy at almost every festival in Germany for 4 years I consider myself lucky AF.
class! and to that one person that down voted it ... we will find you :-)
Phil lynott brilliant player and Frontman songwriter of all time
What a kick ass band!
Miss you Phillip....
The times i could have seen them live 🤔, i eventually caught them at the Reading Festival 83..... great set great band and Lynott held all 30 odd thousand of us in the palm of his hand .… thanx for the music Phil 🎸👏
Awesome job performing that awesome song! We were so Blessed and lucky to have seen these great bands live back in the late 1970's and 80's! 🤘🤘

What kick ass band. Simply fantastic
R.i.p. Phil .You were gone to young .Thin Lizzy and Phil will live forever .Thanks for the memories.
Just over two years to live 😢😢 , nobody to hold him together , he could not hold himself together.
One of the most unique rock talents ever, try singing some of his songs , it's damn difficult. Born for the stage and to be a legend.
I still remember where I was, what I was doing, which radio channel i had on , how shit a radio it was but the news was crystal clear "The Irish rock star......" 😢
with john Sykes.....more then words
If this man was still alive rock music would sound vastly different 😢
1983 . The Spring. I was about to graduate and this album came to my attention. Im still not the same. Crying shame it was only one album.
Looking in perspective now this song is an insight of what was to come from the mighty Sykes.
T&L -- absolutely awesome album. And this was the killer track.
One of my TL favorites. Such a rocker!
Eterno e Grandioso Thin Lizzy ❤🔥🔥
Pure gold
The mighty Thin Lizzy. Taken down by drugs.
One of my favorite rock bands..
Just imagine if Phil had lived, and this version went on... I wonder how many of those " Whitesnake" songs would have been on the next few Thin Lizzy albums...
A few from 87, none from 84 because Sykes had no songwriting credits.
i am 54, heard their big hits & loved them back then. thanks to this archive i am hearing and seeing this for the first time! Phil & lizzy r my new faves of all time!! thanks for posting!!

Songs just sick...born in 76 and fell hard for them last year but just found this gem now
Great video, these guys were masters of syncopation, and had a lot of balls!❤
Fuckin' Sykes...he just always had it! Goddamn.
The last of the great guitar bands.
I first heard this song on a Megadeth album. Both versions are killer but I am impressed with how heavy Thin Lizzy was. To me it is what Heavy Metal is all about.
Sodom covered it, too.
Go Ireland! This is really heavy!
This is really hard rock, but I hear you.
Agreed Louise, I can't remember if Mustaine credited Thin Lizzy on 13 for the cover. I always wanted to know who did the original and I was pleasantly surprised to hear Dave covered it perfectly.
Love lizzy wish I had seen them in concert 😢
Jeez, these guys were soooooo good. Sensational.
One of greatest guitar riffs ever, Sykes solo is not bad either...Top 5 Lizzy song ever.
