Thanks for this video. You explain "how to" very well. Having the 2" RC leveling kit already, I do rub, and your explanation of exactly what needs to happen, is what I've been missing for about a year now. So, THANK YOU! Thank you! I appreciate the kind words. The tip really does help with the appearance more than you'd think! The whole thing is really coming together. 👍👍
HPO! Hello again. I’ll be honest with you, when I decided to level my Colorado Crew Cab, knowing the best way to do so, especially if you are required to use a spring compression tool and all that entails, I just ended up spending what came out to an extra $500, for the replacement Coil-Overs, by Fox, that gets you the extra hight with a longer strut assembly, that also gives an extra amount of controlled suspension travel, along with a lift, plus the advantage of a superior dampener and spring. But I never seen the cool hack to the fender trim/mount, that creates more clearance for tires! Too bad I already bought the 32” tires! Next I’ll trim the piece and get at least 33’s! Even after doing all I have I’m very pleased I spent overall less than a stock Z71 would have cost me! On a fantastic truck, I feel is the best driving truck dynamically around. That gets decent mileage!
Thanks for the in depth tutorial. I’ve got that kit and will be well prepared to install as soon as I find the time. Now I have to save up for the lift Matt has...that was way nicer than I thought it would be.
The lift was a lot nicer in person than I thought it would be as well but you're going to find the same thing I did I bet. After you install the level kit you might not think too much about the lift...
@@redpillredemption8583 I do really like the look of the lift but I'm really liking the look of my level as well so I'm still pretty torn on the whole thing. Maybe one day I'll do the lift but for now I'm totally satisfied with the way the truck looks.

Definitely! It's actually strange how much better it makes the truck look (from that side anyway) it was one of the first things my friend noticed as soon as I put it on!
Looks great! I have the same truck and have been considering a level kit. BIG question for me is.... did the alignment shop have ANY difficulty? I don’t want to do the level and find out down the road that my truck now eats through tires. Thanks for the inspiration! I also want to turn my bow ties on the rims and steering wheel black.
No problem on the alignment at all. The guy asked me if I had a lift and I said no, just a leveling kit. Then he said "ok, no problem" and they were done about 30 minutes later. I'm thinking the same for the bowties on the wheels!

I just bought a brand new 2019 z71 a few weeks ago and i noticed that the truck shakes at like 75 mph and up. And when i slow down from around 85 the truck shakes a bit. The dealership said the tires have “flat spots” that need to be smoothed out. He said that it would happen after 500 miles or so. But the truck still shakes. Should i get new tires??
It looks great. I am not super mechanical when it comes to trucks and cars, I'm curious about somethings other guys who have lifted or leveled their Colorado only to have issues later with CV boots tearing and I think it was swing arms wearing out? Have you heard this or anything like that considering I may have the terminology wrong.
You are putting more stress on those components but it's unlikely you'd have any issues much earlier. I had my setup like this for over 2 years and never had a problem.
Great job on the channel! I have used your install videos several times for ideas. Two quick questions. 1. Have you done a door sill protector install and if so which item did you use? I've seen ones with grit and clear ones. 2. I assume since no Tonneau cover you probably haven't filled the holes in the bed. I'm putting on a Tonneau cover and not wanting all of the dust that comes up from the ground in to the bed. I realize the holes are for drainage, but my 2019 zr2 has spray on bedliner. Not sure if I should leave a few open or not. First truck for me, have owned keeps for 15 years.
I did a 2” level and added 2” spacers with 265/70r17 it rubs front and back, on the front wheels... so ima do the modify for the front... but what about the back side of the tire? Any ideas?
The fix shown here will fix the front but the rear is a little more difficult because it's part of the frame it's rubbing on. You would need help cutting metal away to fix the rear rubbing.
Now I see why you were saying we should live near each other. Would could definitely help each other out haha. I remember you saying my blazer may just have a gasket leak so I got something to tell you about that haha
I see you added the 1” spacer then later added the spacer under the spring. Could you have just added a 2” up top and nothing under the sping. Or was that for something else. Im thinking on adding just a 2” spacer for leveling on top. Should I be adding something else under spring?
I have the 2inch RC leveling kit as well. So you think I could fit a 33' tire if I did some cutting as well? Or do you think I would need to go with a lift on the truck to clear the tires?
Did you have any issues with the CV boots? I had rough country 2” loaded struts installed and after the weekend the CV boots were leaking with a tear, the shop says they are rubbing the strut. My truck is a 2021 Colorado Z71 with 19,000 miles. Anyone have this issue, if so, how did you solve it?
@@HorsePowerObsessed thanks! The google search found nothing and Rough County says it’s never been reported as an issue. Even checked with Ready Lift, they said they don’t have issues at 2” either. @@HorsePowerObsessed Hey man hows it going hope all is good 👍 Quick question Are u gonna put a lift kit on ur truck? And do lift kit mess up the transmission?
@@HorsePowerObsessed I'm looking at adding the same kit without wheel spacers. Do you think the RoughCountry recommended 265/70/17s will work without rubbing?
And welcome back to the Coloradoing Cowboy channel, starring Cowboy Justin where you learn that once you go black, you'll never go back. Don't worry boys and girls, this Cowboy is always on the level.😀 As to the Colorado's exhaust, have you considered, either through customizing or maybe an after-market kit, doing a rear exit setup? Also, have you given any thought to possibly installing electric cut-outs? Impressive fender well mod in that probably no one other than you and Matt would know it's been modified. Save the Wave.
Does it feel or look like it squats when loading it up? I posted in your other vid with the 1" and saw you did the 2" here and was curious about the squatting. I don't really tow but I do load up my truck for road trips.
I noticed the same thing. I took my new canyon camping the first day I had it and It's got the 2" level in it. With my 260lb dirtbike and another 300 or so lbs of stuff in my box it didnt squat at all. As soon as I hooked my buddies sea doo up as well you could spot the squat.
Great video and nice truck! But with your upgrade to 265/65/R17 tires and a 2 inch leveling kit.... do you need to really cut to avoid rubbing with your set up?
You don't have to if you don't have the 1.5" wheel spacers. That's what cause the rubbing for me. I figured I'd take care of it now in case I go with bigger wheels/lift in the future. 👍
Hey man sorry for the random question but a few videos back you replaced the bulb in your factory reverse and bed lights to led so they match the led’s you put in the interior and license plate lights. What's the biggest tire I could put on a 2019 Colorado z71 if I put the RC 1" level kit in it? I've heard biggest is 265 70 17, but I think they meant that was totally stock, no leveling kit.
What tire size are you running? Love the color of your truck btw, and that Vette is amazing. First time watching one of your videos and so far it’s been of much help. Never thought of cutting that part that specific way.👍🏻👍🏻
@@HorsePowerObsessed The odd thing is the trailboss edition comes with those tires (same size). I find it kind of weird they would rub coming from the factory. This is really good information. Your videos are easily the most helpful!
Hey man! Love these videos!! I noticed the Amazon link for the steering wheel decals was to a "cut it yo' self" sticker, not the precut ones you had. Do you have the link to the precuts?
Not unless you also use the 1.5" wheel spacer like I did. The 265/65/17 tire fits perfectly fine even without the leveling kit IF you don't use the 1.5" wheel spacers, too. With the spacers, you need to modify the fender liners like I did but without them you're good to go.

If I’m doing the RC 2 inch leveling kit but not bigger tires, do I need to cut down that piece? Or just if I do the kit and bigger tires that piece needs to be cut down? I have 22 Colorado with stock tires and rims
Late to the party. I have a new 2020. I want to add 1.5" the spacers without any leveling. Stock tires are 255/55 20's. Think it will rub? Great vids, done several of your mods already.
I'm not sure if it would rub or not but I do know it rubs even with the 2" level so my guess is yes it will. Either way you might be ok with modifying the fender liner like I did to fix it.
Yeah I am putting something like that together. It hasn't really changed much but my gas mileage hasn't been the best even before the level and tires....
Do you get any wobble in the steering wheel with the spacers? More when initiating a turn from straigh ahead? Just wondering as i have had that issue in a 2015 Colorado, but now have a 2019 and am debating these mods if the result will be the same.
@@HorsePowerObsessed Thanks, I didn't get vibration, it was an issue with the electronic power steering rack not playing nice with the new width I guess, basically felt like the wheel wanted to oscillate a bit back and forth when just starting to make a turn, once deeper into the turn it would go away.
Are you concerned about messing up the geometry of the suspension? How has driving it felt? I put on the spacer and the wheel spacers and my dealership said it toed in the tires and maxed out the sway bar angle and upper ball joint angle and would cause damage to the axles.
There is no way that a 2 inch level could have done anything that severe. It feels the same as stock driving the truck now. I had it aligned 3 times and I've never gotten any reports of anything bad. It's always "in the green" as far as the alignment goes and it drives perfectly fine. That dealer sounds like they don't want you doing anything to it.
Thanks! I think I’m going to go with the Bilstein 5100’s in the front to get it level and then put the same wheel spacers you have on. Btw: LOVE the new vette!
HPO, have 2021 Colorado Z71. Looking at wheels and tires. I want the tires out of the fender about 1.5"...NO SPACER, just by wheel. I'm getting mixed reviews from shops. Telling me that a 0 offset or -12 offset will rub with a 275/65R17. Do you think that will occur if I do your process of trimming the fender walls? Something cool coming your way, FYI. OH, what size tires to you have on yours?

@@HorsePowerObsessed Awesome man! Thanks for posting all these videos!! Been following your build and slowly pecking away at my own Colorado. Awesome work and beautiful truck!
Adding that leveling kit causes so many issue. 1 the rear is meant to be higher so when you actually use the bed for hauling or towing the front end is then leveled. Now you will look like you put hydraulics on the front of the truck or your air ride in the back is broken. Lets also not mention that now you have throwen off your headlight adjustment and are blinding people down the road. A leveling kit should only be used if you are putting more weight on the font end causing it to dip down even more like steel bumpers and winches. To add it on the front of a stock truck like this is just dumb since you will now cause issues if you tow or actually use the bed. to haul
I talked about adjusting the headlights down (which I did) so that isn't an issue. I've towed with the truck a few times and it barely squats, hardly noticeable. I wouldn't worry too much about it. It has caused zero issues for me.
I disagree. The vinyl is insanely cheap and super easy to work with. I've tried paint/sharpies, etc and the vinyl is by far the easiest for me at least.
So isn't the reason trucks have a lower front stance is for when you throw a thousand pounds in the bed? Also in many cases fuel economy and suspension geometry will suffer when doing this. IMO, the only reason to do this is for looks being it makes a truck less capable. But at least you went with rough country. They are a reputable company and probably allot better then some of the cheaper options.
Is it the exact same one in the video? If yes, then there's something wrong with the tpms on the truck or the battery is dead in the programmer. I've used this successfully on a few different Colorado's.
You installed standard stock-size, midnight edition wheels with 17” tires, correct? Why did you have to trim for clearance to keep tires from rubbing? I first thought you went with larger tires. Did you have to do this because of leveling kit? Or, did you do this for future, 33” diameter tires? Stock tires are like 30” diameter, correct? Please forgive me, trying to learn as I watch. What size wheels and tires will give the 33” Diameter in total? Thanks! PS. I think my wife is onto me paying more attention to you than her. LOL!!!
@@HorsePowerObsessed So, with the same wheel spacers and larger tires… 18” wheels, will I need to cut even more out of the wheel wells, or even fenders? If you don’t know, perhaps some other viewers have suggestions???
If you have the same spacer of the same size tires and an inch bigger wheel you might be ok. The amount I cut out was more than enough for my size tires and spacers.

@@HorsePowerObsessed sadly im not very mechanical so when i do get mine it will be some what stock unless i can find someone in philly that can do what i want for a reasonable price. Enjoyed all your colorado vids. I'm freshly new to youtube and own a Z71 Diesel Colorado. I am thinking of doing a Z71 -> Bison Conversion. I'm wondering if I can get your thoughts on that.
Welcome aboard! You definitely can but I know a lot of the Bison parts are pretty expensive.
@@HorsePowerObsessed Hey! I'm going to do a channel revolving around that. I just uploaded a pilot series video. I would love your support if you ahve time. Thank you zyr!

Thanks, Ryan! 😊
Hey I bought that same leveling kit for my truck did u cut that cover cuz I rubbed or jus for extra clearance? Cuz I didn't really wanna lift my truck so I got the leveling kit in stead
Mine rubbed but that was because of the wheel spacers.
@@HorsePowerObsessed
Hey man hows it going hope all is good 👍
Quick question Are u gonna put a lift kit on ur truck?
And do lift kit mess up the transmission?
@@HorsePowerObsessed I'm looking at adding the same kit without wheel spacers. Do you think the RoughCountry recommended 265/70/17s will work without rubbing?
And welcome back to the Coloradoing Cowboy channel, starring Cowboy Justin where you learn that once you go black, you'll never go back. Don't worry boys and girls, this Cowboy is always on the level.😀
As to the Colorado's exhaust, have you considered, either through customizing or maybe an after-market kit, doing a rear exit setup? Also, have you given any thought to possibly installing electric cut-outs?
Impressive fender well mod in that probably no one other than you and Matt would know it's been modified.
Save the Wave.
Thanks, Peter! I'm still torn on the exhaust situation because I haven't found any that I like the sound of.
Does it feel or look like it squats when loading it up? I posted in your other vid with the 1" and saw you did the 2" here and was curious about the squatting. I don't really tow but I do load up my truck for road trips.
Loaded up it doesn't squat, but when I tow the wifes boat it definitely does.
With the one 1 inch RC leveling and trimming the waffle part what is the largest size tire could you run?
Probably a 275... MAYBE a 285 but that would be without any kind of wheel spacer.
@@HorsePowerObsessed I am look at 255/70 or 265/70
Nice video, very informative. I wonder about those CV angles though? is that an issue for you?
Thank you! No issues as of yet!
Great vid dude, keep up the great work.😀
Thanks, man! 😁
Glad you went through with doing the full 2” level. Has the perfect stance now
Agreed! It's definitely meant to have a full 2" level.
HorsePower Obsessed was your spring perch pretty hard to hammer off of the strut or did it come off pretty easily? Mine was a pain to come off
The first one was hard until I realized I had to use a hammer on the left and then right side (back and forth) and then it came right off.
How tight did you tighten the clamp for exh tip?
About 20 to 30 ft.lbs.
Did you ever look at the Corsa black twin tip exhaust? I have it, looks great, sounds good, not like droning fart can. I'm in PA also. 2018 Colorado Z71 ext cab.
I did look at them but they were pricey and I wasn't sure of the sound.
What's the biggest tire I could put on a 2019 Colorado z71 if I put the RC 1" level kit in it? I've heard biggest is 265 70 17, but I think they meant that was totally stock, no leveling kit.
I'd say bumping up to 275/70 would be max and that may still rub.
What tire size are you running? Love the color of your truck btw, and that Vette is amazing. First time watching one of your videos and so far it’s been of much help. Never thought of cutting that part that specific way.👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you! The tire is a 265/65/17.
@@HorsePowerObsessed The odd thing is the trailboss edition comes with those tires (same size). I find it kind of weird they would rub coming from the factory. This is really good information. Your videos are easily the most helpful!

265/65/17
If I were to put in a rough country 2” leveling kit with the stock 255 65r17 tires would I experience the tire rub you were mentioning in this video?
Not unless you also use the 1.5" wheel spacer like I did. The 265/65/17 tire fits perfectly fine even without the leveling kit IF you don't use the 1.5" wheel spacers, too. With the spacers, you need to modify the fender liners like I did but without them you're good to go.
@@HorsePowerObsessed what if I got 275 65r18? If I had a 2” leveling kit and modified the fender would I be ok? Thanks for the help. Getting my Colorado tomorrow and your videos have been a big help.

265/65r17 tires now
I've been telling GM for years in my head to change the color of the bowtie.
🤣🤣 same!
Hey love your truck & videos
Awesome thank you!
Enjoy you're videos!!! Can you possibly do a video review of the gas mileage you are now getting with your tires and level???
Yeah I am putting something like that together. It hasn't really changed much but my gas mileage hasn't been the best even before the level and tires....
HorsePower Obsessed need the diesel!!
@@HorsePowerObsessed okay thanks! I'll be on the look out for it!
What wheel size fits like oem? Sorry for the question. I found some nice ones that supposedly fit the truck. They are 18 x 9.5. Know if they fit?
The stock wheels are 17x8. If you go up to 18x9.5 you'd have to have a higher offset and it will potentially rub without at least a leveling kit.
So what was the height before and after?
Do you get any wobble in the steering wheel with the spacers? More when initiating a turn from straigh ahead? Just wondering as i have had that issue in a 2015 Colorado, but now have a 2019 and am debating these mods if the result will be the same.
I never had any vibration issues or any issues at all from these wheel spacers.
@@Monz1976 thanks, man!
OH, what size tires to you have on yours?
with a 1.5" wheel spacer and a 2" level the largest tire that won't rub is the 265/65/17
Would the 265/65 17 still require fender wall modification?
With the 1.5" wheel spacer, yes.

How long have you had them on and have you been offroad with them?
Any probs with them getting loose?
What about the navigation upgrade
Do you anyone who’s tried the rough country 2” loaded leveling struts?
Flat black model car enamel is better than the vinyl
It's mostly for looks but it does help increase ground clearance in the front as well.
I used that blue remote control to reprogram the tires and it doesn’t work😔
Am I doing something wrong?
LOL!!!
They are the standard stock size but with the 1.5" wheel spacers they rubbed at full lock.
@@HorsePowerObsessed thank you!
