  • SUBTRACTION is the newest combat robot from Team Just 'Cuz Robotics. SUBTRACTION will be competing at the NHRL September 30th 2023 tournament.
    SUBTRACTION is an evolution of Shameless Self Promotion, which had a top 8 finish at the 2023 National Havoc Robot League "Hot Bot Summer" event, and is the basis for the popular SSP 3lb Lifter Kit. The weapon system of SUBTRACTION consists of a completely custom mass manufacturable hubmotor called the JCR 4935 1000kV. If it works, this will become a drop-in weapon attachment for the SSP Kit, and will be open for use in any other custom-designed combat robot as well.
    The JCR 4935 1000kV motor has been built for combat from the ground up - everything about it is meant to withstand the immense forces that 3lb combat robots can dish out. The motor itself weighs around 205 grams and is 49mm in diameter and about 35.5mm tall. More details to follow in an upcoming deep dive video...
    JCR-4935 MOTORS ARE AVAILABLE!

    Man, that motor looks so cool. I've always toyed with the idea of a fully custom motor but it's currently out of my reach. I am still sceptical though, if this motor is capable of being roofed from a weapon on weapon impact.. but it looks really beefy and well designed. You're doing awesome stuff, I'm really excited to see it at Norwalk!

      There are a huge number of improvements to this over a traditional motor to make it survive, but you never know til you get hit!

    When someone says you can't use a motor for your weapon axle just use a bigger motor instead, much stronger.

    I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS NEW ROBOT. Best of luck to you this weekend and I will be getting one of those if they go on sale. My only concern is the open space in the chassis where the lifter would go in the lifter version of the SSP kit though I'm sure you will address that before making this an official JCR product. Have fun and be safe. I'll be rooting for you as I'm not judging this weekend's event.

      The last couple dozen SSP kits sold have a new chassis that makes this hubmotor weapon a drop in attachment option. If someone has an older SSP they should be able to use a dremel and a drill to make the needed modifications.

    • @forceofwillgaming8475
      @forceofwillgaming8475 11 месяцев назад

      @@JustCuzRoboticsjust a thought. Would it be possible for you to sell a version of SSP that is just the chassis and drive so people could design their own weapon to use with the chassis. Kinda like Tie Dye and mako have done.

    • @JustCuzRobotics
      @JustCuzRobotics  11 месяцев назад +1

      I won't say that I for sure would or wouldn't offer that. I want to build up at least a couple of my own weapon attachment options eventually. The servo lifter attachment really doesn't cost that much, it probably would not save more than like $20-40 off the price of the kit. Spinner attachments will be a lot more costly for sure, even an ESC for those could cost as much as the servo.
      I do hope to offer a drive electronics bundle at a discount that's basically the internals of an SSP that could be used with any custom chassis though. If you are 3d printing a robot chassis it's way cheaper than a milled UHMW one, but UHMW is a lot more durable and more scalable than a 10 hour print per robot.

    Is it able to self-right from the crazy torque to weight ratio of the weapon motor, or what’s its plan for inversion?

    • @JustCuzRobotics
      @JustCuzRobotics  11 месяцев назад +1

      Sadly not thaaaat much torque. But I was able to get it to drive upside down at least well enough to not get counted out! And might be able to drive into a wall to self right potentially.

    Can I ask why your weapon has two teeth instead of one? My robot's weapon only has one tooth in order to maximize bite into my opponent. Also, super cool robot, I'm a big fan of the direct-driven weapon!

    • @JustCuzRobotics
      @JustCuzRobotics  11 месяцев назад

      I have a relatively low RPM weapon since it's huge, 9 inches in diameter. So I thought having 2 teeth wouldn't give up too much. Division's weapon actually spins at around the same RPM and its similar looking Superlight Slicer still hits pretty damn hard. I'll definitely play around with different blade designs in the future though.

  • @BeefIngot
    @BeefIngot 11 месяцев назад

    Interesting design.
    I wonder what a v2 might look like. maybe tilting up by pushing the back wheels down to get a lower angle on the blade?
    Very interested in seeing how that motor survives. I must also wonder if having it go through the case of the bot that close in some way is to help brace the motor since the shaft is sort of cantilevered since its only really supported at the base of the can. Like perhaps when a big hit comes in, its meant to deflect, hit into that top panel, and therefore not need all of the impact to go right into the shaft. I do wonder though if there is enough room/built in flexibility there for that too happen before exceeding how much the shaft can take.

    • @Emer8
      @Emer8 11 месяцев назад

      Unlikely
      Pushing the back wheels down while may allow better engagements with the lower front weapon, is going to make driving extremely difficult with how angled weapons gyro.

    • @JustCuzRobotics
      @JustCuzRobotics  11 месяцев назад +1

      Emer8 is right, my ant has an angled overhead blade and it's sortof a nightmare. Because subtraction is built off of the SSP chassis I have really no choice about the height of the weapon being taller than some robots. Instead I've decided that I'll just lean into the fact that SSP has fantastic ground game. As soon as I get under the opponent they instantly experience full bite on my weapon if they were too short to begin with. This should lead to some gigantic hits if less frequent

      Kind of? Everybody is always improving their robots in combat robotics between competions. Rarely do people build a whole new bot every time they compete, and while some people do take the same bot with no changes to several events usually yoy try to make at least some improvements. I have competed with Division for 2 years and I changed things all the time.
