- This is the story of Karlton379, my first 1lb full combat robot, and its first event March Mayhem 2024.
I was inspired to enter the hobby by @alexsalchemy and his robot Cheesecake!
Nice job on the robot! Still surprised you lost that last fight but 2nd place isn't bad at all. I'm looking forward to seeing how Karlton379 does in the future!
Thanks! I am working to resolve a number of weaknesses I identified at this event. It was a so much fun!
its videos like this that make me fall in love with robot combat over and over again
Thanks! I was aiming for something unique, but still viable. So far the rare "mid-height" design seems to be working.
Im glad you came and brought your whole family! You turned some heads for sure. I cant wait to see what Karlton can evolve into.
I appreciate that! We learned a ton and are definitely hooked on combat robotics!
This robot is truly one-of-a-kind! This is exactly why I adore this sport-the perpetual innovation and the level playing field where anyone can emerge as a winner. Just when you think you've seen everything, along comes something as cool as Kalton379 to surprise you!
Thanks for that. I worked really hard to build somethin unique! I am looking forward to battling some Team ADHD bots in the future!
Surprised u got 2nd I thought for sure u got first, great vid u seem like a really sweet guy
I appreciate that!
The judges decision was horrible. That should of been an easy decision for Karlton379.
I'm not going to lie. It was pretty rough on the family and I. The blood sweat and tears to get to that point was intense. Either way, It was a good learning moment for the kiddos. I would rather win clearly and have it taken than clearly lose. To this day I tell people Karlton379 "kind of" won his fist tournament. When they ask what that means I show them this video.
Not sure what the scoring and rules are for this competition, but that last fight was a clear win. Karlton had all the control and aggression (bar a few moments in the last minute where hellish rebuke hit back) and I feel he should’ve been counted out at the end, that wasn’t true movement in my eyes.
That being said, you did an I ncredible job, I absolutely love this robot. May you have many more successful battles!
Congratulations on doing so well!
Karlton 379 is such a unique and interesting design and I’m very excited to see more of it!
Thanks for the compliment! We learned so much in this first tournament. I will continue to refine and improve Karlton379!
this is crazy impressive! your knowledge osmosis is insane, you've got a lot of good design fundamentals! beating a Scalar in your second fight is *very* good
I appreciate that compliment! Karlton379 isn't done evolving yet! He is already faster and I am experimenting further with weight distribution, foot design, and weapon geometry.
That is a very ambitious first robot, but it is certainly effective
Thanks I was going for something unique and effective.
You definitely should have won that last fight. You had more control, aggression, and damage. No idea what the judges were thinking
I appreciate that!
He's giving me angry little beetle vibes with the look of Carleton, the bugger you should fear to face
LoL, he has friendly eyes though!
Wow! Super impressive for a first bot. This was fun to watch
Thanks, I appreciate that! I am working on my video skills
This is really cool. I have an idea to convert my Viper kit into a shuffler and put a deep bar on the tail spinner add on
deserves more views.
Thanks! They seem to be coming in now!
OK I've got the bug now... gotta build myself a robot and find out about these tournaments... lol
It is addictive!
Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
very impressive bot :) great work to you and the whole family
Thanks! We can't wait to reveal the other family bots!
Amazing bot! Even more surprising as it is your first
Thanks!
congrats broski!
Thanks!
That is so badass! And super inspiring! I'm actually looking at getting into battlebots so this is EPIC!
I'm really enjoying all the skills I have learned so far!
@@GotterRobotics any recommendations for learning you've found?
@@CollinCard I did research on youtube and various websites. runamok.tech/AskAaron.html was especially useful.
@@GotterRobotics Thank you I will check him out!!
Oh wow, I didn't know you drove 7 hours that morning! You did amazing though!
It was all worth it! We had a blast and learned a ton!
Great first robot!
Thanks! I was going for something different yet viable!
You lost that last fight??? Thats wild. Did they explain why?
The score sheets showed that almost all aggression went to the other bot. I guess speed=aggression in their mind?
Next iteration of Karlton, make it lower to the floor so you can't get flipped so easily. It sits too high. Under cutters can get into your shufflers too easily I like that there is no top or bottom and it moves equally well in either orientation. Other detail is shuffle drive needs to be faster. Everything on wheels is going to be able to out maneuver you.
Thanks for the tips. I’m going to stick with the unconventional mid-height design for now as it has served me well through two tournaments. Check out my next video to see some of the improvements in mobility.
U should challange chese cake for a battle i wonder how that would go
I would love a battler with Cheescake. We recently battled Mudskipper!
how did hellish rebuke win when you beat them?
🤷♂️
2 of the 3 judges rewarded almost all aggression points to Hellish Rebuke
It doesn’t make sense how you guys lost. Seems like some favoritism

@@GotterRobotics hey! Good on you for having the best outlook on it my friend! Can’t wait to watch the progress/next video!
@@mhoovair89 Next video is already out if you haven't seen it.
